if you can midilearn something with the modwheel you can also midilearn it with a button that transmits two values 0 and 127.
Just tried it and works like a charme.

Yes, but MIDIHead's video shows him midi learning the glide rate, so modwheel can control the glide time between 0 and 2 seconds - what I was after was midi learning the glide on/off button, which doesn't seem learnable. I'd like the glide time to be static but to be able to turn it on or off with a button, and I don't think that's possible.

True-with a button you could only toggle between 0 and 2 seconds. You are of course right that you cant get anything in between.

Really top notch video. Narration, delivery and pace of tutoring was excellent. Just like someone popping in and sitting in your studio giving you a 2 -3 minute tip on creating a bass sound in Trilian.

Is that you Chuck Silva? I don't know what to say, totally unexpected. Thank you for the 'raw' feedback. In all honesty I was expecting the trolls to come out of the woodwork on this one (maybe I'm speaking too soon).

While I'm no expert Trilian user, I'm hoping that people can see the different layers of Trilian and not feel intimidated to get under the hood. This is really one of the easiest instruments to figure out. Everything has been laid out so well. Even an ADD plagued guy like me can figure it out!

Hey give the mod wheel or some other controller parameter a try (learning to the glide time) and see how it works for ya. Then come back and report! Hopefully this workaround will help you accomplish what you are looking for.

No, the point is that that button is not midi-learnable - if you right-click on it, it does not give the midi learn options. (Sorry to bang on about this - the workaround suggested by MIDIHead is perfectly usable, just less precise if you want to always have the same glide time every time you turn it on.

misunderstanding-when i say button i mean a physical button not the one on screen.
I have several buttons on my MIDIboard that send midi control change messages with two values 0 and 127 that i use for midilearning things.
Using such a ohysical button makes it possible to get the same glide time everytime but only the maximum 2 seconds because the fader jumps to the top when the physical button gets pressed.

the glide on/off button does not seem to be midi-learnable. Any reason for this, when so much else is? I know it can be disabled by playing staccato if the (L)egato button is pressed, but would be nice to be able to switch it on/off altogether using midi.

There are 2 glide on/off parameters, one for each layer. They are the A/B buttons under the Glide button and they can be midi learned. Just midi learn the same midi button to both of them to turn glide on and off for both layers with a single button.

With your little (um cough ) setup should be fine. I know on my system it's really just too ram happy so I have to be really careful with the electric stuff......the acoustic stuff (newer) I can't even use that in lite mode with 4 gigs/vista (yeah I know, you got mac......)
