Ok I got NI Komplete 6 today which has Guitar Rig 4.

Are any of these freeware amp sims worth keeping alongside GR4?

I'm looking to have a cleanout of all the vst's that I don't use.

Haha, there are two ways to find out what's worth:

1. Take a guitar lick you recorded with GR4. Then try to play this lick again through one of your free amp sims. If it sounds equal or better then you know.

2. Taka a guitar lick and record it - from the beginning - e.g. le pou LE-456 - and then try to achieve a similar sound with GR4. If you don't succeed, then you know what to do ...

I'm really liking the TSE X30 (Engl E530) preamp, it's similar to Lepou's LE456 without a lot of the options, with only the two low/high gain channels. I find it easier/quicker to dial in a usable sound for high gain rhythm and lead sounds. Plus the recent improvements he has done in lowering the CPU make it even more excellent. Use a cab sim after. I have had trouble making this sound bad for high gain crunchy sounds.

Not really IMO. I just did a clean out and kept these for no particular reason other than portability.

I've kept mainly LePou's ampsims and Boogex to use cabinet impulses with. But they haven't gotten any use since getting GR4. So far all my old projects with free ampsims have only gotten better when replacing them with GR4.

Yeah, big Boogex fan here too - I like how you can blend a "dry" signal back into the crunchy one, the eq function is very usable

The only other one that gets more than a fair amount of play here is called A-150 from Lower Rhythm : http://www.kvraudio.com/get/3894.html
It's really more a channel strip for guitar with eq, filters and compression - has a really sweet fat tone for cleans

This is my go-to amp sim now, too, and I've tried all the others.

If you put a tube screamer plug in front and put the gain of the X30 at 50% (a travesty, I know...just try it) it's really a wow...

Best of the freeware amp sims?
