Hello, many peoples ask about making good hypersaws, my question is how to use the filter and its cutoff to obtain sounds like the hypersaw of this video: (one example)
0:16

I suposse that the hypersaw of 0:04 is the same than the filtered one but whithout that filter, but i cant obtain this filtered sound. I have massive, vanguard, synth1, sytrus.... One important thing is tweak the pitch down, about -12 in one or two saws, use about 6 voices and....? how have i to configure the filter and its cutoff?

Thanks :)

here is a patch i just made quickly in Massive.

http://www.vinylpusher.com.au/Stuff/gagabass.ksd

I posted a Massive patch earlier today and it didn't work with their Massive, so it may have something to do with different versions, not sure. But see how you go ;)

The long & the short of this sound is to take your standard supersaw sound and apply the following:

AMP ENV

A = 0
D = 100
S = 100
R = 0

FILT ENV

A = 0
D = 0
S = 100
R = 50

Set Your CUTOFF down to 0 (or there abouts) and have your ENV AMNT at about 50-60%.

Now the key to the sound is adding some distortion or tube saturation to give it the grit. In massive you could use the inbuilt Tele-Tube FX.

Once you've got that basic sort of sound going you can adjust the CUTOFF & ENV AMNT to taste, but that should be a good staring point :)

Let me know how you go with that! :

hey! thank you very much for posting. I cant open the file but i've been trying what you saying. I have a very similar sound but it needs a mmm, more presence, it is very dark, maybe cause the base oscs. I use 2 polysaw with -12 semitones and 4 voices with about 2-3% unisono spread pitch cutoff, what is wrong?

You must understand that the sound in that clip goes through NUMEROUS processes. It is NOT the raw sound of the synthesizer.

To get that sizzling, fizzy thing and then the "oomph" and the "punch" of each filtered stab you need to learn to EQ and compress the right way. Especially a compressor plays quite a large role in that clip you posted. It is what makes each filtered stab hit and feel punchy.

Use some saturation/overdrive, and EQ on the lower-mid, to get some 'dirt'.
I'm not sure (I don't have anything in front of me) but maybe try adding a subtle resonance, and a light compression with increased gain.

This often does the trick: Compressor set to a quick release and around 6db of gain reduction, followed by a low shelf eq boosting everything below 140Hz by 6db or more, high shelf boosting everything above 4kHz.

Just to confirm, how are opening the patch in Massive?

It needs to be placed in the patches folder and can't just be clicked and opened.

On MAC the patch is for the patch folder is:

MACHD/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Shared Content/Sounds/Massive

Not sure where it is on PC, but I'm sure it's something similar...

The only reason I reason I ask is because the patch I made is pretty much exactly it, so it would probably help you a fair bit :)

I copy & paste in c:\....\Documents\Native Instruments\Shared Content\Sounds\Massive with other presets saved in the synthesizer, but Massive dont read this one, cant open manually it neither. Maybe you can take a photo with the print screen key of the keyboard?

Thanks!

here you go...

still not sure why the patches won't load..maybe it's to do with different versions.

There's 3 pics there for ya, AMP ENV, FILT ENV & VOICING. You'll also see the Tele Tube in FX slot 1, that's giving the sound it's grit.

Good Luck
