Here we are again at the starting line as One-Synth-Challenge goes up to 11!
OSC11 will feature my very own 'Flex-N-Stein4' (... or 4.01 ... there's no huge difference really.)

Create a track using only Flex-N-Stein4 for all the sounds, including percussion!

You will find some info on FNS4 here..... http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... in#3834395
There are links there for downloading FNS4, and to a 4 page manual you can view/download.
Here is a direct link if you just want to dive in :)
http://www.4shared.com/account/file/148 ... n_401.html
...Note ... this link is the most up to date version.

********* RULES ( please read fully) **********

The track can be made in any host.

All the sounds in our tracks will be created by Flex-N-Stein4.

**FX**
The use of Fx will be limited to
EQ ( including exciter type ), Delay ( unmodulated ), static spatial ( reverb, ambience, stereo width etc.) and dynamics (Compression/gate/limiter).

Hosts native EQ is acceptable, but otherwise such Fx must .....
*be freeware, and easily available via download.
*generally usable in a wide range of hosts
*not be used in such a way as to transform the sounds to a degree
which makes them unrecognisable as those obtained from Flex-N-Stein4
..... otherwise you will be named, shamed, blamed, tamed, maimed, flamed, perhaps even framed! ( but you still might win a prize ) :hihi:

*** There is no track length limit.

**** Finished tracks, in mp3 format, should be uploaded here ...

http://www.4shared.com/dir/21373365/665 ... lenge.html

* Please post in this thread when you upload a track, that way I can prevent
abuse of this public folder. Anything uploaded without an accompanying post
here will be deleted. :x

For the sake of clarity, name your track in the following format ...

Title of Track - Artist Name ( in that order pleeeze! )

* Before you do that though, create a notepad/text file and describe briefly what you have used ( host, how many instances of Flex-N-Stein4, which fx, how many instances.. etc. )
....... keep it short though, that way it can be read in preview mode without the need to be downloaded.

Save the notepad/text file as the title of your track, that way it will sit above or below the track itself when you upload it, and not get mixed up with any others.
( feel free to post or PM me if you have any problems uploading )

CLOSING DATE for submissions is 23rd December.

***How is the comp judged?
The comp will be judged by the votes of KVR members. depending on the number of submitted tracks, the voting may take the shape of a single vote poll, or a more flexible multiple vote option.

..... NOTE ..... Only tracks uploaded to the hosting folder allocated for this comp, before the closing date, accompanied by said info text file, will appear on the poll. Please do not post seperate, external links to tracks you wish to be included in the comp.

And the prize(s)??????? .... well, as it's the xmas comp, there's goodies galore!! ... Check out this bunch of treasure!!!! :-o :-o

@@ Karmacomposer has generously donated a copy of PRIZM, and The SuperCore synth and core library ( download ) to the winner, and 3 copies of Supercore to the first 3 runners up!!!!
Prizm - http://www.hardcoreharmonics.com
SuperCore - (Soon to be) http://www.supersynths.com

In addition, the top tracks will share the following prize pot.
@@ Rob_lee has again generously donated some patchbanks, and also this! ... http://www.gforcesoftware.com/ins_minimonsta.php
@@ Maxsynths has generously donated a copy of Cryologic!
..... Big, big thanks to Mike, Rob and Max for their superb support! :tu: :tu:
@@ I will donate £20! ... cash, cheque, paypal transfer or whatever.
I will also rattle something together to add to the growing participants prize bundle.
.... ANY OTHER OFFERS OF PRIZES WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

I like to think though, and judging by the previous comps, that the biggest prize is the joy of participation, and the learning process ( despite the hairloss and skull inflicted damage to walls and furniture ) that comes with the challenge of stretching one synth to its limits.
So, nothing to lose ( other than hair, sleep and sanity ), and plenty of time!

**** Good luck with those tracks! ...... and have fun!!! **** --------

This is just to be informed of replies...

A tiny little addition to the rules .... I will repeat this when the voting thread is posted.

If, as usually happens, someone has more than 1 track submitted, and it becomes apparent that both tracks are doing well in the vote, it may appear that each track is working to the disadvantage of the other .. like splitting the vote.
If you feel this is the case, and you really want that top spot as opposed to being a multiple runner up, within the first 7 days of the voting, you can opt to withdraw a track from the voting. It will stay in the folder, and retain its place in the chart according to number of votes already cast, but will have 'withdrawn' written next to it and will recieve no further votes.

Should we need to tiebreak, the voters who have already awarded points to withdrawn tracks can be asked to reallocate the 'withdrawn track' votes. I can see scenarios where this this may or may not work, but it is an option I will keep in mind .... any thoughts? :)

Sounds fair comment Tattie, with the Acidrack compo I was very tempted to vote for Yeager twice as I had for Ah_ziz in the previous one - it kind of causes a bit of a sonic punch up though. And, like all good biffings, was a bit irrelevant :hihi:

Great set of goodies on offer so my thanks as well to all those who have contributed as well. Very kind.

Best of luck,
Mouxbar

I think this may also be an advantage (wining 1st and 2nd places !). Someone who has more than 1 track also must be the one who takes the risk -if his/her real target is to be on top of the list. At OSC8 I voted for the same artist on 2nd and 3rd places which I realized just before submitting.

I mean if the focus is on person why separating the votes. If the tracks are to be considered the voters must focus on tracks.. I don't know.. withdraw sounds like "horsebetting" to me . Whats more it makes things complicated.

I want to hear that Flex-N-Stein4 but no time again ! :x

Post

Yeah kukla, you voted the right way! ... it is the track we are voting for, and its content in demonstrating quality and range of the chosen synth.
.. the artist is secondary to that process.
However, there's always room for a bit of a twist to keep things interesting :hihi: ... I think the idea above introduces a risk element which might be a lot of fun .... eg, a participant might 'withdraw' a track and still not get into the top two, whereas if he/she didnt withdraw a track, he/she may have ended up with two runners up places and two prizes. it could also simplify the voting process if there happens to be a lot of entries ....

Having said that the artist is "secondary" to the voting process, the idea proposed does kinda shift that a little, but I still think it could be fun .... however, if there is a general dislike for the idea, I can be persuaded to drop it :)

OK, upping my effort now (under my secret name morflex). I'm by no means an expert, but hopefully it has a balance between being normal and showing off some of the synth's character. I tried to use the morphing dial as much as possible :)

Post

Uhmm... I think I agree with Kukla, makes things more complicated (being mentally very limited, I'm a fan of simple things) and after all you vote for the track and not for the artist... personally, I'd leave things the way they are right now, it seems to work nicely :)

Wow, very nice, the only problem is, you've used a title I've wanted to use for decades and now I can't use it anymore :( You will be punished for this ;-) Is your track inspired by the great film starring Hackman, too?
