This is an excellent instrument! A beautiful sound with superb presets. Nothing else needed to add to this except, make some beautiful music.

The Strings Dream Synth did a good job emulating the SolinaHunterKiller wrote:Was disappointed with it in the first day of playing with it. But that's more likely to do with hype and marketing. The bottom line is, I can't make it sound like an Eminent 310, or a Crumar Performer, or an ARP Solina. By my standards it's under par.lagavulin16 wrote:1) Have you tried Amber?![]()

You know, wonderful interface, and a lot of modulation possibilities, but the sound just ain't there. The string sound that is. This is mostly due to the chorus types, they aren't the best I've heard - software or hardware. The synth part of Amber is wonderful though, very useful.
Overall, it's good for certain things, but it could do so much better at others. I get the feeling it's 95% of the way there, but because it's so complex it'd be hard to change it now to something else. Changing the sound of a completed synth, happens rarely. One can only hope for more chorus types in the future.

The best idea is to always pick 1 synth and nail it as close as possible.

Though, a bit on the 'thin' side.

Please, send me those presets when you can!:hyper::tu:

I was referring to the Brass osc most of all. It really grates.electro wrote:What, the chorus or the oscillators?
The others are better. Esp the C.Bass, the Cello and the violin, which are perfect.
I'd also like to see an option for keyboard tracking. It really transforms a synthy sounding string machine, into a warm string machine. And also the ability to change the violin from '4 to '8.
Getting back on topic now

I bought this amazing software instrument. I can sit and play this for hours, it's just so insanely beautiful. Smooth and vivid sound! I havent been this in love with a soft synth since Olga!

Wow, String sounds great! Easily at the top of the list of all the string synths I've ever messed with. Even with the effects turned off, it's got amazing, rich tone. I can't play keys worth a damn and I've had a blast just fooling around with it for the past hour and sinking into the sounds.
Has Loomer ever done a GB in the past, because I'd be one of the first to jump in on one?
Am having trouble resisting it at the current price....

Nope, and I don't think they will. I remember we tried to get one going for Aspect when it was released. If you have the sterling pounds to spare though, all the plug-ins are worth having. I'm still waiting for the dollar to recover before I buy.GreyLion wrote:Wow, String sounds great! Easily at the top of the list of all the string synths I've ever messed with. I'm an old guy. I'm not sure I can wait that long....pandashake wrote: Nope, and I don't think they will. I remember we tried to get one going for Aspect when it was released. Thanks for the info about non-GBs, pandashake.
According to xe.com, it would be a bit over $81 for String. That's actually pretty reasonable for something this good.
It would ruin my self-image to pay full retail for a piece of software, though.
Guess we'll see if the obsession takes root.

Just try making some juicy brass and bass sounds with it and I'm sure you have no choice but to buy this wonder. The filters are pristine and chorus is probably the creamiest soft emulation I have ever heard, just instant gratification.

Thanks again for all the wonderful feedback, glad you all seem to be getting a lot out of String. If you've not done so, it's worth upgrading to the 1.0.2 release, which fixes a potentially nasty digital noise ('Aphex Twin'-like was the description in the bug report!) that could occur in certain circumstances.
Regarding group buys, at the moment, we have no plans to have one. We've looked into it, weighted the short-term-bump-in-sales vs long-term-sales projections, factored in the perceived value loss of the product, added the customer loyalty quotient, and at this time, I'm afraid it just doesn't make sense for us to do it. Sorry! But at least you can be confident that if you've already bought String, some whippersnapper ain't gonna be getting it at half the price a week later!

Thanks for the clarity on the group buy issue, CPB.
*Sigh* Guess I'm gonna buy it at full price, then. I'm trying to hold off until the holiday season (and expenses) are over, but it's a struggle.

Incidentally, one of the reasons that I'm feeling compelled to get String is that, besides its splendid (and easily modifiable) preset sounds, I've been layering it with some other synth sounds that have faster attacks and different other parts of the envelop, such as some in Sawer and half a dozen others, and ending up with some extremely cool and playable sounds.
I've listened to so many synth sounds lately that they've gotten boring and same-y, and String opens up a whole new kind of freshness for me.
It plays really well with some of the less-psychotic presets in Nitro, too. And adding in Sheppi and maybe a touch of Breverb or UAD plate reverb sounds luscious.
I have no idea yet how usable this all might be in an actual song, but it's hypnotic to play. I haven't had this sort of personal response to a vsti for a loooong time.
