I believe that the best features on Cantabile performer are the subsessions and the midi loop back!
Please make more loop backs! 4 are few for a serius setup...!
I use 30 vst's with cantabile and some are dublicated..but with loopbacks can save cpu and space..!

Another thing..!
Have you tried to delete a rack and then cantabile crash??
Or a rack to become "broken", buggy, with problems on sound??

I own Solo and the 4 midi loop backs are available in Solo as well. Perhaps you could explain how you use the midi loop backs as I have yet to use them?

Thanks in advance, James

...how can one save CPU with midi loopback...?

The "normal" way to save CPU cycles in a huge VST rack setup is to suspend plugins in the corresponding slot by using the cross button. With this you can load as many plugins as your memory allows with just near to zero cpu...

This suspend state is stored with subsessions too... and yes, subsessions allow a lot of things hard to do with plain sessions and some hard to control in other hosts as well...

Midi loop backs can be used as midi input. For example you have midi loop 1, and output of the loopback a VST.
You make as many racks as you like with the loop as output Without loading any VSTs on the Racks, and you make splits transposes etc with sound gen the one vst on loop backs output.

EX:

midiloop1 out: Superwave poly

Rack1 out: midiloop1
Rack2 out: midiloop1
Rack3 out: midiloop1
etc...

You do not have to load tens of superwaves to make a multi with One Patch.

If you multi chanel Vst (i.e Sampletank)

You can use loopback to make as many racks as you like assigned to vst 16 channels with whatever midi filters you want

I can't see your point concerning saving CPU load.

What you do seems to be just one way of midi routing.

Loopback is possibly the only way if you have a plugin that outputs midi and you want to spread that to other plugins / racks/... in Cantabile. Other than that what are the empty racks for? You can apply midi filters at slot level too...

Maybe I missed some special intention you have with loopback and empty racks?
