Infinite Player update?

Hey folks,
I'm having an issue with Infinite Player whereby the KontaktPlayer2.component is causing one of my song projects to crash upon loading. It took me more than an hour to narrow it down to this one plugin component, and in removing that component my project loads properly, but Infinite Player is disabled.
So my question is... how can I get an Infinite Player update so that I no longer need this KontaktPlayer2 component? If I am not mistaken, there has been an Infinite Player update that was talked about more than a year ago, and which I assume was released way back when the Kontakt 3 Player came out. I need that urgently now.
And when I do upgrade Infinite Player, will my song projects still be able to find the drumkits I was using even though I have removed this KontaktPlayer2 component?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated,
Zedd

? Infinite Player IS Kontakt Player 2.
If you login in your your Native Instruments account (not Service Center) you should see an update there - it is actually Kontakt 3.5 which will run as Kontakt Player 3.5. This can be installed alongside IP (as they have different .dll names).
So you would not remove Kontakt Player 2. If you did, then the Infinite Player libraries could not be played as the software acts as the Authoriser for the Library (they might be usable in kontakt Player 3 in DEMO mode).
----------------------
Stop press:
That's how I got my IP update anyway, in mid_October - but the Kontakt Player 3.5 is no longer available for download in my NI Account - can anyone-else still see it there?

Isn't it the same than the free Kontakt Player?. You could download it from it's main page then.

That might work - that's Kontakt 4 now.
I'm sure that Squids or Allen will shed some light on the best way to get the IP update.

Yeah, there are two parts to the Infinite Player. One part is the Kontakt Player itself and the other is the Infinite Player that shows up on the left side of the Kontakt Player's browser window (where you load the instruments and multis from). For the new products like Drum Masters 2 (including the GB) we're actually separating them into two installers. One is the Kontakt Player installer which is the same as the one you can get from NI right now. We're going to have just the 3.5 Player installer but you can choose 3.5 or 4 (both are free from NI) but remember that 4 doesn't work on Power PC Macs (just the Intels). 3.5 will.
The "Infinite Player" is essentially like a plug-in within a plug-in. NI calls them a "library" and really that IS what it is... except that it is sold as a plug-in by virtue of the bundled software it is integrated into. I know it is a bit complicated sounding but that's how NI set it up. SR possibly makes it even more confusing because ours is EXPANDABLE (whereas most company's Kontakt Player-based products are closed). But in the end... it really IS simple. You've got three elements:
- Kontakt Player (3.5 or 4 - take your pick OR you can use FULL Kontakt)
- Infinite Player (Unlocks Kontakt or Kontakt Player to be able to play Sonic Reality's Infinite Player format content)
- Infinite Player Sound Content (ie. Drum Masters, Konstruction, Kapsules, FX Tron, EpiK DrumS, Cinema Sessions...)
Anyway, if you've already authorized your Infinite Player then you can just "add library" from Kontakt Player 3.5 which you can download from NI right now (or KP4). After you hit "Add Library" in the plug-in you browse to your Infinite Player folder and it should "bring it in". One thing you may want to get though is the new "info.nkx" file that has the new "infinite instruments" background image for the Infinite Player. It looks a lot better but... that's just aesthetics. You don't HAVE to do this on its own (not even sure if we offer the info.nkx on its own but we should and certainly could...) but anyway this new info file (which contains all the wallpaper/gui elements of the Infinite products) will come with all second generation Infinite Player sound content like this current Group Buy and also all the new Drum Masters 2 etc. products.

Just to really clarify this, it sounds like full Kontakt users won't have to download the Kontakt player but will need the Infinite Player and, of course, the content.
Thanks

I actually have the full version of Kontakt 3.5, since I bought Komplete 5 when it was at a great price this spring. I have Infinite Player already showing up as a library in my Kontakt 3.5 engine.Squids wrote:But in the end... it really IS simple. You've got three elements:

But despite that, this song project has an instance of Infinite Player loaded into it which crashes the project on startup. Removing that Kontakt Player 2 component got the project to load. But how do I now figure out WHAT drums that instance of Infinite Player had loaded into it so that I can load it into a new instance of Kontakt? Or better still, how can I trick my song into seeing Infinite Player in the Kontakt 3.5?
What I have done recently is that I purchased SampleModeling's The Trumpet and that installer insisted that I install Kontakt Player 2, even if I had it installed already. So maybe it overwrote something in Kontakt Player 2 which is now conflicting with Infinite Player. Perhaps I should reinstall my current version of Infinite Player? I guess that is my next move, if there is not a more recent version to update it with.
I'm on Snow Leopard on an Intel. This year has been a can of worms sorting through issues.

I don't think you have to do all that. Obviously the whole crashing with K2 component thing is an NI support question itself so I'd talk to them about that. But, as far as Drum Masters or Infinite Player using the Kontakt 2 Player... well, I think if you have the sounds loaded from the Kontakt 3.5 engine then it won't touch K2. They are two separate programs (they don't overwrite each other). However, you can SEE which version the kit is loaded into in that instance by looking at the outter GUI - which is different between the two.
If you've confirmed that ALL of your sounds are in fact loaded into 3.5 and you still have the problem then I think you're going to have to "kontakt" NI.
But let us know how it's resolved. I've not heard of this issue before.

Just a quick update...
I really did narrow down my problem yesterday to being whether or not Kontakt 2 Player was loaded with my project or not. But for some fishy reason, after more than four and a half hours of troubleshooting my components issue this morning, my Kontakt 2 Player is working just fine, and today it is AmpegSVX that is causing my projects to crash.
So something ain't right on my system, and I shall continue to experiment and work with different components disabled to see if I can recognize a pattern and also eliminate some instabilty and Digital Performer crashes that I have been having of late.
So for now, everything is okay with Infinite Player... however, I will be saving all my IP presets in each of my projects and loading them into Kontakt 3.5 so that I'm not dependant on the Player anymore. I'm still not sure what is gonna happen when we update this Kontakt 2 Player to a more current version of Infinite Player with regards to whether or not it will still load correctly in a song project and remember the preset being used. I guess we'll be finding out about this at the end of this month's GB.
MODERATORS... if you think my subject heading for this thread is confusing, please feel free to change it. In retrospect, I don't think I chose the right title, and I hope I haven't wasted anyone's time.

Thanks Squids. I started my previous message before you posted yours, but got sidetracked and didn't realize you had posted.
I am digging Kontakt 3.5, so it certainly makes sense to use that as my main engine for using Infinite Player libraries. Also, I would expect that upgrading to Kontakt 4 or Kontakt 5, down the road, won't break the connection with whatever presets and libraries are being used in my songs.
I was heartbroken when the switch from OS9 to OSX caused SampleTank to lose its memory of loaded instruments. I had to spend dozens of hours back in OS9, opening up all my projects and saving COMBIS so that I could reload them in my projects on OSX. And so now, I try to take all precautions necessary to avoid the same dilemma down the road.
Yes. I only really figured that out in a definitive way since reading some of the things you've written in the last few days in the Group Buy thread.Squids wrote:...I think if you have the sounds loaded from the Kontakt 3.5 engine then it won't touch K2.
