EDIT: Hidden Base Remixes Claude VonStroke - Vocal Chords (finished master)

The tune is based around two elements, a vinyl beat and the vocal samples from the original tune (the only part I've re-used).

I tried to make this tune as focused as possible, trimmed the fat and kept things simple etc. It's a bit of a mix between an epic and playful vibe for me, and has a fractured beat kinda groove to it.

Here's the original tune youtubed:

peace!

I like it a lot! Sounds very polished to me. Very creative and original.

Fun stuff, reminds me of the game of Arkanoid...
This isn't exactly a type of music I listen to, so it might be a foolish remark, but I feel a bit confused in the low end here, bass seem somewhat resonant and it's far more pronounced than the bass drum.

strange and fresh sounding.. just the way i like it .. the ending need some more love maybe?
music sounds better with you

Well spotted ZQ. I was going for the "high kick drum, 808 sine bass" type groove, so that the bass carries the rhythm more than the kick. It's how Claude Vonstroke's tunes work, so I thought I'd use that technique. It means there's heaps of headroom to play with.

Even so, do you think the kick could do with some more sub? Curse my Behringer Monitors...

Thanks for the comment Syz and Cypher.

YES! good idea. Thank you. I will try and think of a "strange and fresh" sounding end for the tune :)

I see, in this case there's no sense to add sub to kick. I don't know how to describe it accurately, but this bass sound has a pint of a bucket ambiance to me, maybe it would work better if it was punchier, more dry and less mellow - especially if it carries the rhythm. Still I'm a bit in the dark here.

I thought Claude Vonstroke is your name...

I'm following you. I'll have a go at beefing up the tube sat and lowering the fundamental. Mr VonStroke is the genius behind the original tune, I'm (Hidden Base) doing a remix.

Did you try a dry sound without saturation? I think the lowest end works best untreated. Or use a send to apply the effect only to higher part of the bass.

The source bass signal is a plain sine wave with a pitch mod (re: 808) so I didn't need to do a split.

Edit: Thanks for the tip tho. I've had a go at adjusting the harmonic content but it's not really working. :( It's turning it into a overdriven bass guitar sound, I'm preferring the moog sine wave thingy. Thanks for the perspective on it.

Cool track! I'm a sucker for vocals used in this manner, not sure why, but it gets me every time.

Great remix

I prefer it to the original, much prefer it in fact. The weird vocal sound that's chopped up in it about a third the way through is superb, was that part of the remix package?

The only thing that's bothering me in the mix is the hats and snare. They both seem to be occupying the same space, and smothering the bassline at the same time. A bit of EQ tweaking will most likely fix it but definately needs to be done pre mastering.

After a second listne it's already achieved a character of it's own and although the original track is apparent, your's has little in connection with it.

Splendidly done that man 8)

Fantabulous! I found a few of the drum edits a little un-tight, but no big deal. There are some truly ass-shakingly funky moments in this track and I love the ethereal feel the vocal imparts. The bass does some wicked things as well. Bravo! 8)
