I've been kinda/sorta lurking on this thread since the beginning, and just on this page do I realize (I think), that even though I already own most of the content of this group buy, I DO NOT have it in this format (quasi-multi) which is new.

Now this looks interesting, but I didn't realize that the free DM 2 patch upgrade for current DM 1 owners doesn't address this new format. Is the entire DM 2 collection now in this new format? Do DM 1 owners need to upgrade to DM 2 to get their collections up to speed? Is the prior format still being supported in any way?

While the DM content (and OWD for that matter) is top notch, I'm not a tweaker and I prefer the kits sound cool right out of the box. This sounds like a great step in that direction, but it would be nice to clarify where current users should go from here in the march forward.

I know Squids has explained this exhaustively, but I think some additional explanation may be useful.

Sorry to gum up the works further--

Cheers

So many plugins, so little time...

Maybe "locked in" was a bad choice of words, but all I was trying to envision, for example, is whether I could order, say, Oceanway Drums Gold from Guitar Center at some point, which costs $795 or so last I checked, wait for a 15% off day @ GC, and then use the coupon along with that. That would make for a really great price to say the least! - and better than any standard/typical discounts in place. I have no idea how this stuff works, whether its GC or whoever taking the hit, etc. I would think its GC, given that they give 10% off everything. Certainly no intention to offend! :-)
Sounds like it won't work that way anyhow, which is fine. Still a good deal.

When you get the massive amount of details a Squids-led GB brimgs, things get confusing from time to time. ... Then we add upgrades from Drum Masters 1 to Drum Masters 2, and the addition of people interested in using these kits with V-drums, and it's bound to need some clarification.

But I wouldn't have it any other way. It's confusing because we get so much! Just think, you are getting 12 OWD kits for $99! Not to mention everything else!

BTW, we're at 288 the last time I looked. We keep inching toward the "magic" 300!

What is the difference between the EZdrummer lite bundled with some new magazines like computer music and the EZPLAYER PRO?

Not unless you can convince Toontrack to throw it in! We were only able to offer their EZ Player Pro because we made a deal to license it to bundle with Drum Masters and Ocean Way Drums products. It seemed a really good way to add in some of the advanced midi features of products like EZ Drummer and Superior to products based on Kontakt that don't have a midi sequencer. Granted many people use their DAW to do their sequencing. But I really like that Toontrack made a product like EZ Player Pro to be dedicated to midi grooves. I also happen to love how BFD2 deals with midi and kit pieces too. Scott did a brilliant thing there too. One can even use BFD2 to convert midi files to use with other things. I haven't done much of that yet but he gave me a personal demo of what it could do in that regard last time I saw him.

I've never used Drumtracker. I have DrumAgog but even that I haven't used a ton (even though I think we're going to do some Gog libraries). In drum sessions I spend a lot of time getting the sound I want in the studio OR I use samples in the first place. But we recognize there is more and more demand for drum replacement so we're going to do things more and more to cater to that market as well since we have good sounds for it.
Thanks for the reply, I was under the impression that you(esoundz) and Toontrack were one in the same.

I'll be on the look out for your drum replacement product.

No, it is Sonic Reality that has a part in eSoundz which acts as an on line outlet for most SR products and other related products. A focused web store on sounds and software. Some of the employees are shared between the two and I am one of the owners of both.

Toontrack is another company that makes drum software, sounds and other software. I'm friends with the CEO, Andreas, who I met on a Scandinavian tour we did years ago when I was showing Sonik Synth 2 (a product we made with IK Multimedia) and at the time I think they were showing an earlier version of the software they have now. Anyway, we licensed their EZ Player Pro to bundle with our products because it is really fun and useful for handling midi grooves.

As far as drum replacement, they have Drumtracker which I haven't used yet myself but I imagine is good. The most popular one I know of is DrumAgog which we've had requests to do a library for straight into that format so we have plans to do that. A few other companies have drum replacement software and I am curious to see which ones work the best and catch on the most... but I never said we were going to be making our own drum replacement software. As long as there are good ones out there already I don't see the need. We're focused on making the sounds you'd want to use for the replacing.

There are a lot of custom things in this group buy that are different than the FREE DM 2 patch updates for current DM 1 owners. This bundle is an island within itself in terms of "ready to go presets" because it within that quasi-multitrack system there is the use of this particular collection of impulses which only comes with this package at the moment and also the use of Ocean Way Drum kit pieces as part of custom kits within Infinite Player which is also unique to this product. So even if someone owned Drum Masters 2 and Ocean Way Drums already there would be enough things in this to justify spending $99 on it. I will show some examples of what I'm talking about so it might be more clear. I have a lot of things we're doing and yes Blueman is right about having videos before we start a group buy... one of these days we're going to have all our ducks in a row to pull that off. This was one of those "okay you can do it but do it now!" kind of situations with the studios and artists involved. It wasn't something we had a lot of advance notice on. It was a window of opportunity for us and now it is for you as well. I will do my best to show video, create more audio, show more screen shots and explain things as best I can so you people can make the best decision before this is over.

Berfab, just to be clear about one thing though. The aspect of individual output mixing for stereo DM 1 kits is just a set up of the output mixer and assignment of each kit piece. THAT part is going to be in the new DM 2 patches as long as you have any stereo kits. But the multis that have that with the mixing involved and convolution... that will be part of the new Signature Kit Series and this product. There's some crossover but the crossgrade discounts are so good to make up for that... that's whether someone is crossgrading from THIS GB product to any of the new Drum Masters 2 or any of the existing OWD full products OR it is if they are crossgrading from previous DM 1 products to them which will also qualify for certain discounts as well. I know that is confusing while the new products aren't out yet (working on making that happen asap) but like the Reverend said... it's only confusing because we're trying to make it workout well for everybody. So everyone has a way to get the best of what we've done whether they are starting right here or they were loyal supporters who got Drum Masters 1 before it.

Bottom line for you is, I think DM1 users that are interested in a lot of ready to go presets and a variety of samples and impulses they don't already have... they should get this as the free update patches they're going to get do not include THIS. Maybe that's all I needed to say! ;)

I have Drum Masters Gold (and a bunch of other IP drum samples) and OWD DL. I'm trying to decide whether I should join this GB or not. Will there be a paid upgrade to DM2 available? If so, how much will it cost and what will it include? If I remember correctly, the same additional samples are included in both the upgrade and this GB, is there some overlap in the other content?

Great question and what I think I will do is make a thread in our company forum with many details of what is NEW compared to DM 1 Silver, Gold or Platinum. There will be paid upgrades to DM2 but since there is no Silver or Gold (just a regular Drum Masters 2 and a Drum Masters 2 Platinum - for multitracks and the stereos are now these quasi-multitrack Signature Kit series and there are many new samples involved) there will need to be some creative upgrading. But we'll spell it all out as clearly as possible.

Btw if you ever wonder why sometimes I do a mini-book post and sometimes I do a short one... occasionally I intend to elaborate but have to actually do a real life thing. In this case, I have been asked to make dinner (a little late) and it's going to be spicy chicken butter lettuce cups. If you've ever wondered why it says "Sonic Reality Head Chef" next to my nick here that was from about 8 years ago when Ben (the person who started KVR) was making a double entendre about me being the head of SR and also an amateur gourmet chef. I used to mention what I was cooking in between posts in our company forum. To me, being creative in the kitchen is kind of like music improvisation in a certain way. Could be a fun topic to discuss in our company forum and I may even give my recipe for authentic Seafood Gumbo from New Orleans which goes GREAT with Drum Masters. ;)

I will be back later to elaborate on the previous post though. These lettuce tacos need to be created... I have no idea what I am going to cook until I see what's lying around to use in it... kind of like iron chef! Plastic chef. ;)

Is anyone here using EZ Player Pro? I get the impression from the website and video that it requires Toontrack Solo if you want to actually hear the midi play? Is there a way to have EZ Player Pro trigger the samples from IP (i.e. Kontakt)? If not, how would you hear the arrangements you are creating?

It looks like really great software if you already own EZ Drummer but I don't see how this would work with IP kits and this group buy :?

Virtual Software Chef! If we reach 1,100 on the Group Buy, maybe you can share your recipe for Coq Au Vin with us!
