I have a 30" monitor with some fan-less video card and midi editing on full screen is fine. (I'm sure it must be worse for others. Just wanted chime in that it isn't universal.)

OT, but Bioshock won't do antialiasing without renaming it to Oblivion.exe to fool the drivers, and even with that a 2900XT will only get ~25fps.fandango wrote:Still sluggish midi editing fullscreen on anything > 1280x1024 ... and I have an ATI X1950... which plays Bioshock in full detail and lovely antialiasing... go figure.
(I wish jorgen would put the GDI=1 trick back into XT, it made everything lovely and fast)
Nonetheless, your point stands.... it's baffling how moving things around in a fairly simple 2d GUI can cause such a massive processing spike. I suppose there'll be a fair amount of non-GUI calculation (boundary checking etc,) done on the fly when moving bits around though.
I don't get any sluggishness with the action alone, but I get glitches when it's compounded by large plugin demands.

my guess is that much eye candy stuff could be done by the graphics processor using opengl and some cross-platform graphics libraries.
however, maybe moving around things isn't the problem but the actions attached to it, like some stuff in the audio engine or asio integration.
but ... just a guess

I've had a problem with compact xt2 and xt2.5 playing and recording. When I first installed the software and recorded...everything was fine. Then sometimes it would play or not play. I uninstalled and tried 2 reinstall again and couldn't reinstall the software from the disk so I did it from the xt site and the program won't play or allow me 2 record. I tried using the Asio4all driver and that only helped play the demos.disturb wrote:I've done more tests with changing asio latency and there's definitely a problem there.
If the load is high, eXT2 will just crash when starting playback again, if the load is low it works ok most of the times, eventhough i couldn't get a sound after increasing the latency once...
I'm thinking this is a different issue, non graphics related though, but they sure don't seem to mix well together.
Also added a quick description of my config in the first post, checkout the thread on the beta forum, there are quite a few system specs there ; couldn't see any similarities in those configs though.

pretty much the graphic issues that a lot have , on a test pc (intel p4 3 ghz with intel 865p and a abit graphics card vista) asio4all 512 buffer
crackles when moving selections of clips around while project plays at 55 cpu load , and crackles when minimizing xt (while project plays) and opening/repositioning other apps windows

Disabling Hyperthreading in BIOS solved that problem on my computer. Same specs and motherboard as yours, win XP sp2. This is not GPU specific, it's connected with motherboards and chipset. I haven't found other way to make it work with Hypertheading on.paladium wrote:pretty much the graphic issues that a lot have , on a test pc (intel p4 3 ghz with intel 865p and a abit graphics card vista) asio4all 512 buffer

i can confirm that now i switched of hyperthreading the crackles stoppedkejkz wrote:

now when i drag a group of clips when project plays but now same project
uses 30-35 percent more cpu load (and now the asio starts the crackles when
the cpu gets to topend load) , and there is a very noticeable lag when repostitioning faders etc , you move them and theres about a 2 sec interval before they jump to new position, the mixer metering is also lagging compared to whats playing through

Interesting, it is little slower with HT off, but not that much...
What GPU do you have?

the gpu is an agp abit siluro (nvidia Ti)with 64mb dedicated ram and active cooler
so no memoryshared mb vga , with hyperthreading on cpu is back to 50 and
the metering and faders respond normal again (again crackles when repositioning grouped clips but overall better performance with hyperthreading on)
ill test the same project on another configuration (dual core with W7 + a highspec audiointerface) to see what gui performs
the version i use now is the 2 nov beta

I have just tried something... disabling affinity for one of the "cores", when I have turned on HT, have gave me better results, without serious crackles. But something is strange with XT. It chokes itself, and crackles, but it isn't showing more that 50% of processor usage. I have made projects with three TAL Uno 62 synths, playing same 4 note chords, two TAL Bassline, and it still shows somewhere near 50% CPU usage in Task manager. I know task manager isn't to precise, but this behavior is... strange... I will try same project settings in V1 or other software.

you have a duel core system i take it?kejkz wrote:I have just tried something... disabling affinity for one of the "cores", when I have turned on HT, have gave me better results, without serious crackles. currently XT2 only uses 1 core (50% overall CPU)

They are dueling all right
It's a P4 3ghz with hyper threading, so it's more like single core with multithread boost. You are right, that's the issue here, I assume
So, I will turn on HT again, and restraing core affinity to one. I thought only Mac version is in bad shape, because I was using it almost exclusivelly for a past two years, but it turn out they all are. Well, working with what I have, looking for an update (fingers crossed).

Yes that is the issue. Hyperthreading simulates multiple cores on the one, which means that Windows will split 50% of measurement to one virtual core, and the other to the other. energyXT, only working on one core (thread?) (at least for the audio engine itself), will only reach roughly 50%. You will never get 100% on the Windows measurement.
As for the other hyperthreading on/off issues, they are not particularly energyXT's fault, I think..? Hyperthreading also has caused weird issues in games, so I think the concept of Hyperthreading does not work for every field... And in energyXT it seems it would be a tradeoff between slightly better performance (maybe because the graphics thread is run on the other core? Not sure...), but with audio issues due to hyperthreading, or no hyperthreading, more stable system in all arenas, but slightly slower performance. I don't really think that's energyXT's fault, I keep reading about issues with hyperthreading and audio apps, games, etc... Hyperthreading is more useful for heavily threaded application anyway, like video conversion, or maybe other graphics things.
