Congratulations to everyone for going over 300! There was a time when I wondered if group buys were a thing of the past, but with the right price point they are alive and well!
Now... what do we get for 400?

Can you talk more about that? Where and when will this sharing community be hosted (set up)? I want to make sure we all support this for two reasons:Squids wrote:...because those are patches that is something you can grow yourself and we'll do some NKM patch sharing with the community as well.
1. It helps us use these kits in a smarter way by sharing presets and ideas (so they don't just sit on the hard drive unused). This way, people can hear what is possible and get a head start by relating to ways in which others here are using the kits.
2. It supports the product by getting (and KEEPING) people excited about using it and learning how good it CAN sound with the right settings.
Presets are best applied when the sound source is known and consistent. That makes these kits the PERFECT candidates for a preset exchange (imo). So, in this case Squids and Co., as well as experienced users, can make these samples sound great for everyone. That promotes the product which encourages repeat business which leads to more group buys for addicts like me
Well, my two pennies...

Sorry about this being so obvious, but sometimes people overlook things. Did you see the player in the upper left hand corner of the GB page?someone called simon wrote:Not that I like to quote myself, but just in case this Q got overlooked...someone called simon wrote:Hey, can anyone point me to a page where I can listen to some of the Drum Masters sounds? I found a drum masters page on esoundz but can't seem to match up any of the kits listed here with whats on there. Maybe they don't match??

Hi Squids.
First of all congrats for this amazing group buy as we reached 300 mark and still going up and also congrats for us all
I was just listening to some sounds from Drums Masters on esoundz website and i just loved the classic rock kit demo (the only one without any numbers) from the Classic Rock Drum Multitrack Kits. I was just wondering if it comes right out of the box like that because it has a very punchy cool sound way different from the other demos.

If its equalized maybe if i buy it than you could share with us how it was done?...

Don't worry. We all do it, especially when you have as many details as this GB brings. I didn't see it for the first week.someone called simon wrote:DAMN! I feel stupid now! As an option, you can pick a multi-track kit.bapu wrote:So what can you do for existing EzPlayer Pro users like you did for the existing Infinite Player users?

Exactly my point! Nickelback is an example of what I mean when I say I don't like that "polished" sound.someone called simon wrote:Polished is probably the wrong word. I know the sonic detail, especially on the OWD kits, is second to none, I looked at most of the videos on the OWD site.zedd wrote:Personally I don't get that whole "polished" thing. I find Squids' kits to be much more sonically pleasing.someone called simon wrote:I was thinking Steven Slate as I needed some better drum sounds, but I think these ones sound less... I dunno... There's a real commercial pop/rock/metal sound on the Slate thing it seems. very polished.
'
Its just that when I hear the SS kits I think of music like Nickelback or whatever. That real shiny commercial rock sound...
Perhaps "processed" is a better word for what we are talking about. Obviously you, and many others really like that more processed drum sound. For myself, a die-hard Beatle fan, and lover of music from before the age of the electronic takeover, I much prefer a more raw sounding drumkit.
The kind of processed kits I do appreciate are some of the hard rock kits which have a realistic big room sound. And of course there are all sorts of other processing that can be done on drums to make them sound awesome. It's just that when I hear all that compression on those Steven Slate drums, it is like the magic has been squeezed out of them. I like to hear the crack in my snare drums. But we all have widely varying tastes when it comes to these things.
I'm very thankful that this is your position.Squids wrote:We resist the urge to do that so people could say the same thing. Instead our goal is for it to sound good but be unprocessed at the sample stage so you can do your own processing... this is how I personally like to have it.

The beauty of it is that it IS how it comes right out of the box AND the presence is achieved through the use of the right mics, mic placement, high quality mic pres, A to D converters and going into ProTools HD. Then you can apply effects to it in the plug-in (with the free update to the DM2 version) and/or with external plug-ins or analog gear if you have it.pcaseiro wrote:Hi Squids.

That's the approach I like to take. It'd be much easier for us to get a punchy drum sound by using compressors and EQ on the samples. But it is more of a challenge to get it to sound great without it and if one can do that the benefits are huge! What I've learned from many engineers and producers I've been lucky enough to work with and be mentored by is that if you can get the drums to sound great from understanding what mics to use and where to place them then that starting place opens up many more possibilities for what you can do with it further... not to mention that you can also have a very natural sound without the compromises of EQ such as smearing of the high end spectrum, phase issues and other compromises one often has to make when using effects... it very often IS necessary within the context of your music but it sure is NICE when perhaps it isn't required!
So, Drum Masters has a very untouched sound. Ocean Way Drums has some slight processing here and there but out of anything out there it probably has the most clarity and preservation of the high end spectrum... and that is because Allen Sides and Steven Miller who recorded it are considered audiophile gurus and they used arguably one of the best mic collections in the world through a one of a kind console made by Bill Putman that's strength is a fast slew rate and incredible top end clarity and depth. If you want to understand more about that Allen actually shows you the console and explains it here: www.oceanwaydrums.net/videos.php
Anyway, it's a challenge to do but it is worth it for us because of what you can do with sampled kits that sound good with little to no processing on them... then when you run them through high end effect plug-ins or analog gear it is just jaw dropping sometimes!
