Yes, Rourke and Bacon in Diner, Rourke in Barfly. In my odd and diverse career in music gigs I once got to work with Mickey Rourke in the studio strangely enough on a rap song he wrote that was played on Howard Stern and at the time I had memorized almost every line in Barfly along with a decent imitation of him (to all my frrieeennnds)... so I got to do my imitation of him TO him! That was bold and risky. Luckily he liked it and also liked the fact that I even knew THAT film. Unfortunately he didn't seem to like Diner or Barry Levinson too much though... despite me saying I thought he did a great job as "Boogie". But Barfly was one of his favorites.
Kevin Bacon on the other hand I didn't even talk to much. I just saw he was there at the NAMM booth and learned he uses our stuff. I may have said hello or a few things but didn't bring up Diner. "Cornell!" I think if I met Paul Reiser I'd ask him if he was going to eat that roast beef sandwich though. Those guys were all great in that film. Daniel Stern "JAAAAZZZZZZ!!!!!!". What a classic.

That is a good question Greg. Normally two coupons can't be used at the same time. So it would be one of the other and probably the same deal either way. However, we'll get more specific about that soon and try to think of everything we can so it makes the most sense given what you already have and what you'd be getting that's new. We'll find a way to make it work and be worth it.gmon72 wrote:lol. now I have seen it all, lyrics about drum samples.
Question re: the $99 DM2 coupon. How if at all would it apply to those that have DM1 Gold?
Thanks,
Greg
Remember too that DM1 Gold users will also have FREE DM2 patch upgrades to their current kits with the new scripts and features. That's how we reward customer loyalty. So you'd just be paying for new sample content which is optional.
There is new content in both Drum Masters Signature Vol. 1 and 2 that wasn't in Drum Masters 1 Gold.

Squids - just checking something on the midi grooves. Are these midi grooves taken from various existing ODD GROOVES packages (Four\Four Drumming, Advanced etc)? I happen to have those already direct from OddGrooves and they contain terrific variety.Squids wrote:Okay, we've got the extras for 400. You ready?
• Over 100 more midi grooves from ODD GROOVES courtesy of Per! He can talk more about those but it is a taste from each of his sets of odd time signature and more complex grooves than you normally see.
I'm not looking for extras here - just wondering if they duplicate what I already have.
Thanks.

Yes, they would duplicate what you have if you have all of the ODD GROOVE packs. Per is in here and he actually joined the group buy too! He can explain his ODD GROOVE packs and the selections he's making for this bonus extra.GlebeGreg wrote:Squids - just checking something on the midi grooves. Not that it's a lock but if you take Norwegian Wood or Fix You and replace the lyrics with funny esoundz/Group Buy talk there's a good chance Squids-o-claus is going to come out and sprinkle some epointz magic - at least to the first few that do it!jensa wrote:Haha. But between you all giving each other epointz for helping each other find this deal or learn about it and a few extra bonus epointz from El Squidsarino... you gotta admit, this is a unique way to get some free stuff or price breaks! Wouldn't it be great if you could earn epointz for EVERYTHING you buy?

I'm putting the bonus grooves together right now, and it looks like there will be 120-150 grooves in all. They are taken from the six existing OddGrooves MIDI packs, so if you have them all there will be no new material except that they are in I-map format.
We are also converting all of our grooves to I-map, and I'm hoping to have them available by newyear's.
Now, let's get to 400!
Cheers,
Per

Actually, it's a KM54 or 56 on the snare which is quite different from a KM84. The 84 is a nice standard mic for the studio but the 54 and 56 are much more rare and they are tube mics, the 84 isn't. The reason Ken Scott's drum sounds over the years sound warm and punchy with smooth highs is because he uses mostly Ribbon and Tube mics on the drums... which is luxurious, particularly the U67 on each tom thing but also the KM56 for the hi hat, the KM54 for the snare... he's got great taste in mics! After working with him I had to pick up all of those (and a few U67s at least - not 8 like we needed for Cobham!)I really like the top end detail in these demos. The snares are nice and crisp without too much ring. I find this sound to be more playable than many other types of snare sounds. It is exactly how I tune my own snare.[Here is a thread of my acoustic kit in my home studio: http://vdrums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55309 ]
I read about the Neumann KM84 on the snare and U67 on the toms. It is amazing how clear all the drums and cymbals are. Are these mixes flat with no EQ? I would be interested to hear them compressed as well for a larger than life sound too. I think it would be very easy to do because of the detail that is there already
All the rooms are nice. The toms have had a lot of attention which I really like but many people don't do.
I look forward to hearing these played from an E drum kit. How were the demos done?
Peter
This collection is designed to be like you somehow had the master tapes of Bowie albums like Ziggy Stardust, Hunky Dory and Aladdin Sane, Supertramp's Crime of the Century and Crisis What Crisis?, Dixie Dregs Night of the Living Dregs and What If?, Missing Persons Spring Session M, Mahavishnu Orchestra Birds of Fire and Billy Cobham's Spectrum, Crosswinds... the albums Ken originally recorded with these amazing drummers. So, if he originally recorded anything to tape (we also recorded some of this to analog tape!) using EQ from the Trident A range then we did that here too. So there could be a tiny bit of EQ so the sound is "modeled" after the original.
CONTINUED from VDrums thread...
So apart from the sound of the Trident A Range and the microphones, rooms and drum treatment (by the drummer and Ross Garfield the Drum Doctor) and the playing done by the original drummer of those bands (apart from the additional Beatles-style and Elton John-style kits in the package as well), the REST of what you can do with it is in the plug-in or suggested UAD plug-ins that go along with it nicely. Aha... wanna hear more?
Okay, so in the plug-in itself which has features just like your new Drum Masters 2... but the sample sizes are just infinitely larger (8-9 gigabytes for the discrete multitrack kits) at least for now until there are eventually stereo/quasi MT versions later which will be more downloadable sized and possibly available a la carte (whereas these current ones do not have plans to be available separately at the moment so it's all or nothing on EpiK DrumS in the current offered collection if that factors into your decision). You get both the minimal processing "off the tape and you mix it" presets as well as Ken's mixes within the plug-in presets using the on board EQ, compression, limiting etc. Now, those are cool because they're ready to go. It's a compromise for Ken because his top preference would be to run it through analog gear just like he would out of ProTools (if you happen to have 1176's, Fairchilds, Trident A Range, Plate Reverb etc. which most of us don't!) so realistically his next preference would be to use the UAD effects which include all of those and he's endorsing their new Trident A Range plug-in which he says sounds very good!
So, it's recommended to use the UAD with it if you want to get accurate replications of the master tapes and mixing elements (and Ken is doing free presets for the UAD for anyone who has both). That is on the upper end however and I really think that MOST people will be just fine with the two options internally of either using on board effects or the dry minimal processing which you can run through ANY effects you want... afterall, part of this is to be able to nail a historical vintage sound and the OTHER part of it is... TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT! They're made to be able to be used in your music, this is just the starting point and the goal here was authenticity and accuracy of classic drum sounds... and we went to the source in almost every way... and it was quite an EPIK production to do all that. I am not sure can do that again unless this proves to be appreciated immensely and a popular product... then perhaps we CAN do more! Just not taking that total blind chance I did with this one... assuming that people out there appreciate all of this cool stuff as much as I do! That's whether they know this gear and these engineers and artists now or they know the famous artists they've worked with and want to learn about how they got the sound and how to be able to use that sound in their own music. Pretty much that was my guess. Now we'll find out if people appreciate us going all out to do that!

I've got 3 out of the 6 packs (don't have Fill, Crazy or 4/4_2 Packs). If there's stuff I don't have - great. If not, I'm not in the least fussed. I've got plenty of material (now I've got the Drumcore midis sorted through EasyPlayerPro aswell) and I joined for the Kits.
Looking forward to serious drumming frenzies by the 30th!

Coupons now working.Squids wrote:Okay I have the coupon info part 1 which includes what you can use it on for OWD and EpiK DrumS. The Drum Masters 2 Coupons will come a little later and run through the end of February (so two weeks longer if that helps).
Important note about coupons: They cannot be used at the same time as any other promo or discount system such as epointz, membership discounts... if you have epointz and use the coupon the epointz will stay in your account to be used on something else (you can still earn more epointz with a referral though). Your membership discount is bypassed and it is the amount below taken off the price you'd see if you weren't logged in (to avoid confusion, that's all you have to do to see). So it is off "street price" or "base price" which is what we call it. However, that means it is even MORE of a discount off the MSRP than the street price already is in the first place... bottom line is that it equates to some really nice discounts for everybody in the group buy.
NOTE: The coupons will work by some time tonight. I will let you know when they are active.

Pre-requirements to use these coupons: Purchase of regular Ultimate Studio Drums GB or the Paypal Version

A popular sound of the late 60's to mid 70's was this sort of dead snare and tom sound. You really hear that heavily on Beatles and Bowie stuff where the toms almost sound the same as each other despite them being different sizes and the snare goes THUD! Quick decay and very little ring if any. It's a sound that very few sample libraries have and even if they do none of them are recorded by Ken Scott (apart from Fab Four) and these original drummers to have this particular character sound. But if you like classic rock records then this is a very signature sound we're all used to hearing. It's nice to be able to play that from your e-Kit!From VDrums thread; Those Epik Drums are sounding great. Let's see how Drum Masters 2 plays out for me ... but as Peter mentioned what attracts me more on those demos were the dryer snares .. not much ring ... the clarity of the cymbals is impressive..
Of course as the collection goes into the later 70's and early 80's stuff with Morgenstein and Bozzio you start to hear the snare and toms open up more and there's more ring but still tamed and treated a certain way that only the drummer and engineer/producer know. It was extremely educational for me to be there while they did this some 30 years later (some of them haven't even seen each other since making those albums). This was like an esoteric VH1 behind the music or BBC Classic Tracks... the difference being that it isn't just to uncover the secrets but to actually get something out of it all of us can use. Imagine if after watching the Classic Tracks on The Who you get a digital replica of Keith Moon's kit (hey, not a bad idea! haha). Or the one on Ziggy Stardust. (that we do have).
Look, this kind of stuff is my producer side's fantasy. I feel incredibly lucky to know these guys and get them to do this for SR. I'm after the holy grail drum sounds that I personally like and appreciate. I love to learn about it, teach what I learn and be creative with a wide range of sonic flavors at my disposal. I know a lot of people do in general - we collect what we like. So these are more things to collect. Each person will use it in their own unique way and it's fun to see what people do.
