Hello All

I'm in the middle of setting my studio after a move so I've not really had much time to play with my new copy of Silent Way, but I have already thought of a great feature that could be included in a future version of the software: support for alternate tunings.

I know it's easy enough to detune analog synths or adjust the scaling (in the way the Moog Sonic 6 does) but to be able to load up a tuning file with individual frequencies for each note in the scale is a dream of mine :)

Anyway thanks to the developers for such a fantastic piece of software!

Funny you should say that - those following me on Twitter will know that I implemented something that will let you do that just the other day.

Hey OS :) Will it have the rnadom detunings idea I had a while ago.

So that you could basically turn a dial from say -5% to +5% and it would randomly change the tuning each time you hit a note between the knob amount.

Sound ironic I know, but it's a great aid when things are "too" in tune. Looking forward to the update.

Ooh how about this for another idea, midi echo so you hit a key and it echo's it in time with the project?

Post

I still haven't done that, sorry! It's on the list though.

MIDI echo - isn't that supported by almost every DAW anyway?

Post

Doh! Yes you are totally correct.

I would LOVE to see a 2nd LFO added within the silent way LFO plugin so that you could use LFO 1 to modulate any parameter of LFO 2. That would open up so many more modulation possibilities. I emailed about this and it sounds like this may be possible when you use the CV to OSC plugin in combination with the LFO plugin but I haven't figured it out yet.

Fantastic! Great to know that you are using your powers of telepathy to implement features as users think of them :D

How is the Uber tuning mode coming along? I'd be happy with a HQ mode for tuning where every 3rd note is analysed rather than every octave as it is :)

It's still on the to-do list, I'm afraid.

On the upside there are two entirely new plug-ins almost ready.

Post

Look forward to it.

Just hope your plugins work ok with Cubase 64bit. This is no dig at you or any plugin company..... but it is one at Steinberg for once again selling a product on a promise that blatently does not deliver.

32bit bridge built in that loads ooooohhhh 5% of my plugins without crashing, looks like I'll have to buy the Jbridge 32 to 64 plug in to fix Steinbergs mess!

I'd be very interested to hear how well my stuff works with Cubase 64bit. Or indeed any 64bit app.

I know I have some work to do to support native 64bit Mac applications (I have to move stuff from Carbon to Cocoa) but in theory 64bit Windows ought to be easier to support. Native 64bit builds would do away with the need for the bridge. Let me know when you're using Cubase 64bit and you can beta test things for me!

Mind you, I don't relish the thought of yet another plug-in format to have to build, release and test. I already have 3 (Mac AU & VST, Windows VST), times 8 Silent Way plug-ins - that's a lot of stuff!

Post

Well I'm putting it through it's paces now. Never known a company so arrogant and unlistening to their customers as Steinberg!

It's the smaller industries like yourself that seem to have the quality control and customer communication that makes supporting your stuff a pleasure.

All ready to do any beta tests when you are. I'll PM you my email address.
