Yeah! :D I think if that it is correct that Minimonsta is a prize, I may try an entire Flex n Stein album :D

Hi Guys,

As you all loved my cheese so much in the last OSC (cough), I've decided to give you mice some more. As Alan Partridge would say "Smell my cheese! Smell my cheese!"

Called the Cheeseflex after Duran Duran's Reflex they should both be about as annoying as each other :hihi:

9 x Flex-N-Stein
Kjaerhus Reverb, Master Limiter and Chorus
Onboard EQ
Fruity DAW
A little automation.

I'll just add that Flex-N-Stein is one of the most unique VST's I've used for quite some time. Amazing palette of noises from it. Put a flash GUI on the front end and it'll be a KVR classic. Honest. 8)

Great entries so far guys - been a bit busy recently so I'll wish you all Happy Christmas now in case I don't get to mention it before the big day.

Best of luck,
Mouxbar

Aaaargh ... just spent 20 mins writing and addressing all issues posted ... and I lost it by clicking the wrong thing befor I could post!!

:x

So, briefly, Cheers for the submissions guys :tu: .... thats looking like a healthy number of entries ...cool!! ... but more welcome!! :)

Cheers for the positive comments on FNS ... very encourageing! .. thanks :)

I'll post later re. plans for development etc ... right now I need to feed the kids ... :)

Post

Right where was I? ... yes, cheers again for the positive comments re. FNS4 :) Yeah, I think FNS4 has a lot going for it, but there is certainly room for improvement.
Cheers for the comments re. my beats abstractcats, but I can tell you I had quite a struggle to achieve those sounds. In the next upgrade, I will link the osc pitch to the modders and morphers ... its hard putting a good, snappy leading edge on percs in the absence of a descending pitch envelope or an additional higher freq sound source.
Has anyone tried applying the seq to the filter cutoff, with the res at max to produce a string of 'notes? ... it's tricky, but it can be done ... but with the pitch included in the mod/morphable parameters, this would be easier and way more effective.
I will also add the facility in the pm/fm osc for keyboard tracking.... this should also aid the above note sequencing capacity and add another level of control in other sound shaping endeavours.
These changes are fairly simple and should have little or no effect on cpu demand.
I think it would be good to have numbers on all of the morphable pairs of controls so there is a better indication of the range that is being morphed.... when morphing over a small range, it can be difficult to realise any visual difference in the relative positions of the controls within a pair.
The exception to this though, is the adsr. I have not found any great effectiveness in using morphers and modders on these, and in a rearranged panel, I would probably remove this facility in favour of a simple, single adsr ... but you may disagree.

I will gladly take on board any suggestions/feature requests ... and if there's anyone out there who thinks they can give it a killer GUI, gimme a shout! :)

Got my second track finished :) .... dont know when I'll find time to do the final mix, but surely before the deadline!

... and there's still a little over 4 days to go!! :-o

A good approach is to get a feel for the synths character first ... if its a scrapey, squeaky beast, then dont attempt a dub reggae sound. if its a bit pinky-plonky, dont do metal! .... go with the flow, and you will not to have to brutally squeeze a sound out with heavy fx use :)

... best of luck with your track! :)
:) Cheers, I won't be too afraid to turn the FX up a bit then as long as th majority is done in the synth first like you say.

About the synth it sure has grown on me from where I didn't think I would get anything useful out of it to discovering things it can do, but then isn't this a common thing really? I remember f.i. dismissing Synth1 when I first tried it and how wrong I was, countless other examples too. One really needs time to get to know them well and not judge by a quick try and presets alone and the same with FNS.

A thing I miss though is pitch bend settings.

Still working on a track, but new to most things and takes time to check out all the FX and how they work etc. and xmas mayhem on top of that too, but kinda hopeful to enter.

Post

Cool V'ger, once again ... good luck! :) ... pitch bending? Try portamento! ... set the mono to 'on' and overlap your notes in the piano roll ( or however you do that in your DAW ) ... I just realised by responding to your post, that the humble, often overlooked portamento is the workaround to having no pitch envelope!! .... Shit! its late, but I want to make some kiks! :-o

Post

Wow! ... couldn't help myself! ... just used the portamento to descend the pitch of the kik on the track I just got finished, and I'm really glad I didn't manage to do the final mix!! .... (note to self.... when upgrading FNS, ensure porta is in the middle of the panel and the knob is huge! )

Yeah! that works great! Thanks V'ger for cutting down those trees so I could see the wood! :hihi:

Ahem ... anyone want to re-up their tracks?? :hihi:

Well, I would go to bed now, but that little flash of clarity went to the fridge and got me another beer! :hihi:

Post

.... note to self ..... RTFM!!

Quote from page 4 of the fkn manual which I wrote!!!
Likewise, that portamento is your other modder ... and the only one which acts on the Synths pitch, so despite it being huddled in a wee corner, it's cool!
:hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

Post

You write notes to yourself, quote yourself... did you remember to send yourself a Christmas card and to invite yourself over for the holidays? :hihi: :hihi: :P :P

No point, I wouldn't turn up .... too busy with synths and bloody One-Synth-Crap to even say thanks to myself for the card ... which would prob be a paper thin '40 for £1' item bought 5 years ago from a charity shop! :hihi:

Post

I've always told you that you and yourself should split up, you're just not made for each other...
:hihi:
