I have to admit, I'm really confused by all these Kontakt variants. The free kit I downloaded shows up asa Kontakt file in the folder, but Kontakt 3.5 won't open it because it is encrypted. So now I'm downloading the 14 day free trial of the OWD Expandable Player to try it out.
The Group Buy says it comes with Infinite Player. Is there any difference between Infinite Player and the Ocean Way Drum Expandable Player? I mean, if we join the GB, there will no additional purchases of any other players necessary to be able to use these kits fully authorized forever, will there?
edit: this part removed.

I think Squids is puttng up a version of the free kit which doesn't require the OWD Expandable Player, but I am not sure. There are some different versions of this free kit on the freesoundz page, so I am a tad confused about it as well. I also opted not to download the OWD Expandable Player, and have decided to wait for a IP/Kontakt compatible version.sockofgold wrote:I have to admit, I'm really confused by all these Kontakt variants. Hmm, okay. Thanks for the info guys. Maybe I just don't know what I'm doing... Hopefully Squids can jump in and set our asses straight on the matter.

Not an Aussie, and I'm sure you're right about his delectable-evilness getting his tentacles around some of Oz's finest...but just in case they're all engrossed in a weekend Mad Max Marathon, I'd be happy to take them mate! ;-p (4fmb)wazanegi wrote:Hi all!

Yes, that's right. We'll have to change that so it is clear. Thanks.zedd wrote:I'm gonna quote myself because I edited my previous post and added this, but it overlapped with a Squids post, so you might have missed it Squidly.
Also, someone talking about this in another forum was concerned about the round robin feature because he had experienced a product where some of the round robin samples were too different from one another and actually detracted from the drum performance (which I'm sure is probably not the case with these kits).zedd wrote:I do suggest that you make it very clear WHICH version of the kit we are supposed to download from the free section. It is still confusing on that page with OWD versions for Reason and MOTIF dominating the top of the page.
But in any case I told him that I believe that with this collection we have the option to select or omit which drum hits are included in the round robin. Was I correct in saying this?
And yes you are correct. You can turn any of the alts in the round robin group off if you hear one that is too different for your liking. Although most of the time it is subtle and desirable variance.

No additional purchases of players needed to play the content that comes with this group buy.sockofgold wrote:I have to admit, I'm really confused by all these Kontakt variants. Here's an explanation that has been brought up a few times but it's a long thread so I don't mind saying it again to anyone who is confused by this.
For ANY third party sound company's "powered by Kontakt Player" virtual instrument there are always two software components:
1. The Kontakt Player software
2. The library software that allows it to be played in Kontakt Player (or Kontakt)
So, we have a library that is Infinite Player which is expandable with all sorts of different instruments besides just drums. Then we also co-created the separate Ocean Way Drums Expandable Player (mainly expandable for custom Ocean Way Drums collections and anything else Ocean Way makes in the future potentially).
The two are separate because Infinite Player is just Sonic Reality's "key" to use our Kontakt format sounds of all types. OWD Expandable Player is basically Ocean Way (the studio) and their player they hired us to help create the content for. That player is for their own line of Ocean Way branded sounds which at the moment is just drums.
I think the fact that they are called "players" confuses some people because it sounds like there are all these DIFFERENT players but really they are ALL using Kontakt Player. The only reason they are called a player IS because they are bundled with a Kontakt Player. Up until recently you couldn't even get Kontakt Player separately unless it was bundled with a third party's sound collection.
Anyway, now that NI decided to offer the Kontakt Player for free to people it has made it more confusing unfortunately. People wonder if it is free if it will just play Ocean Way Drums or other Kontakt libraries. The answer is no. The libraries themselves need to be registered and authorized for them to work.
Bottom line is, you have a Kontakt Player and then to run the sounds of this group buy you get the Infinite Player library's serial number which when you register it with NI it "unlocks" the encrypted sounds so they can play. If you don't then they will play in demo mode until you do authorize them.
NORMALLY you would need the OWD Expandable Player to play the Ocean Way Drum kits but the OWD kits in THIS group buy were all made to work with the Infinite Player. That's a temporary exception made for the purposes of making this one time bundle. It's rare that we got the chance to do this so that is why I try to make it clear that if anyone is interested in this they better get it now because this product cannot be offered permanently. It's a special thing.

So the OWD freebie mentioned here http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 12#3902212 needs the OWD player in demo mode?

Even though I have finally started figuring all this stuff out, I'm glad that you wrote that clarification.Squids wrote:I think the fact that they are called "players" confuses some people because it sounds like there are all these DIFFERENT players but really they are ALL using Kontakt Player. The only reason they are called a player IS because they are bundled with a Kontakt Player. Up until recently you couldn't even get Kontakt Player separately unless it was bundled with a third party's sound collection.
In this case it is even a little more confusing with the use of "Infinite Player" which suggests that it is a separate player and follows its own special rules potentially.
These special scripts, for example, that you have been talking about have probably got some users unclear that once you add the scripts to the instruments they will work properly whether you load the instruments into the Infinite Player or Kontakt Player or the full version of Kontakt. That is correct, is it not?
It would probably be easier if we were referring to these collections as libraries rather than players.
You know, for years I couldn't afford to prioritize the purchase of Kontakt, and I was disappointed that there wasn't a free player available because I had to avoid buying sample libraries that required Kontakt and didn't come with their own player.Squids wrote:Anyway, now that NI decided to offer the Kontakt Player for free to people it has made it more confusing unfortunately.
And then just when I finally caved in and bought Kontakt (Komplete 5, actually), they decided to make a free player available. On the one hand, I wish they had done this a lot sooner and *could* feel frustrated to have bought the full version just when the freebie came along... BUT I have to say... I *love* Kontakt, and am very glad I have the full version.
The editing features and ways that you can customize instruments in your library are just awesome, so I have no regrets about forking out the money for the full sampler (not to mention that I also love Battery, B4 II, Akoustik Piano, Reaktor, and numerous other programs that came with my set).
As soon as eSoundz starts carrying the Komplete 6 update, I will place my order.

Is the "Ocean Way Drums Kit 10 Medium FREE" (that is currently in the Free Soundz section) already loaded with your new round robin scripts?Squids wrote:1. Kontakt Player 3.5 from Native Instruments (you can download it for free from their web site).
2. Ocean Way Drums Kit 10 Medium FREE which you can download from the "Free Soundz" section of http://www.esoundz.com
3. This is the part I am not 100% about yet but I think it will at least allow you to try this out in "demo mode" (which Kontakt's limitation is 30 minutes per session and then it times out and you have to restart again). It would be a "Kit Patch" (called an "NKM" - which is a "Multi" in Kontakt) along with an "info" folder that has the necessary graphics.
On the number three part because it would not be the normal installation method you might have to "search samples" and point to the OWD Kit 10 m's NKX file or the folder that has it from the download... this part you normally don't have to do by the way but in this case it might be necessary. Not a big deal really but just don't think it is normally this many steps is all I'm saying.
I downloaded the file mentioned above, but it will not play in Infinite Player or the full version of Kontakt. The message reads: This patch is encrypted and cannot be loaded unless the respective Library is registered properly.Squids wrote:Don't get too excited. I am just experimenting here but I am 90% sure the NKM kit file I have here with the new scripts, an Info folder with some graphics and the NKX of Kit 10 medium which you can download for FREE in the "Free Soundz" section of www.esoundz.com will work with the Kontakt Player 3.5 you can get for free as well from NI (if you don't already have it).
I'm trying to avoid registered the OWD player demo if not absolutely necessary. So I will wait until there is more information available.
