Speaking of name dropping, I think it's time for another Squidstory. I've been going back and forth with labels and through all the red tape to get this Neil Peart Drum kit released. But it's fantastic and those of you joining this group buy will probably LOVE to add this one to your set up.

Also, here's a useful video talking about how we sample drums and I am in Neil's actual kit. There's even a moment where I pick up his sweaty hat not realizing just how DRENCHED it was! Check it out: http://www.sonicreality.net/videohi/ind ... =4&flvID=0

Also here's a tiny clip: We have some good footage of Neil playing that will be on SRTV soon. The people posing in that pic are myself, Neil Peart, Don Lombardi of The Drum Channel and DW Drums, Nick Raskulinecz, the producer of the Rush album "Snakes & Arrows" (also produces Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains...).

So, the prequel as to how we got one of people's most favorite drummers in the world (probably picked the most in those "best drummer" polls) to do a sample library for Sonic Reality's Drum Masters series.

It starts off with Alex Lifeson who uses our sounds because he's an avid IK Multimedia fan (Sonic Reality makes a lot of the sounds for IK's plug-ins). I was at Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood when Rush was mixing "Snakes and Arrows" in Studio D. We were in Studio C working on OWD with Steven Miller and Allen Sides. Generally speaking you don't talk to artists if you're working at a big studio like that unless you know them. I mean, you can't just go up to them and bother them for autographs and things like that. That's frowned upon because the studio protects their privacy and wants them to be totally comfortable. But, if the artist talks to you first then no problem. So, one day Alex saw me and the Sonic Reality sign and started talking. He introduced me to Geddy Lee who was also very nice. I didn't meet Neil though. But their A&R guy Andy was excited himself about our sounds and software so he had a bunch of questions for me. So through him I'd make sure the Rush guys all knew what to get for different purposes. Geddy wanted Ampeg SVX and was going to experiment with that and also SampleMoog!!! Alex was excited at the time about integrating Stomp IO into his set up and also curious about SampleTron which I had mentioned... Very cool. Rush ended up being in the IK catalog. All fun stuff.

Anyway, at one point or another I mentioned almost half-joking to Andy that we should do a Neil Peart drum library... thinking "yeah right". But I threw it out there because I am a bold sea dwelling creature and it never hurts to ask! Andy is so cool and a fun guy because he's so positive. He says "Well, you never know". Then one day over a year ago now he calls me up and says "You still want to do a Neil Peart Sample Library?" and of course I reply "Of course!" and he says "You'll need to be in LA next week". Apparently Neil was rehearsing for another leg of the Rush tour and had a day off from his schedules of videos he was doing at The Drum Channel. We could do it there.

So, I took one of my assistant samplists with me, Jeff (aka Zamplebot - he's like a robot when it comes to sample editing) and we went there to take care of business. But, within that week at the request of Neil we managed to get Nick Raskulinecz, the latest Rush producer, to engineer it. So within a week's time we had one of the most deluxe drum sampling sessions with the help of The Drum Channel, the label, DW and... it was amazing. By contrast EpiK DrumS (granted it was with 5 drummers) took us a year to get all the sessions done working around people's schedules and flying all over the world... so it was a nice change to have everything fall into place with the appropriate elements in just one week for Neil Peart's session!

And it was almost perfect apart from the fact that the studio wasn't quite ready for the session because of a rewire the day before! We had to make Neil wait a few hours when we were told he likes to start at 12pm on the dot! He doesn't like to even be 5 minutes late and this was taking hours. But despite what we were told he was INCREDIBLY cool about it and totally cooperative to make this happen. I was amazed. That was the first time I had met him and despite some of the first words being a sort of tap dance to make up for the studio's house engineer patch bay woes I had some very enjoyable conversations with him. Cool guy! More quiet than say Alex Lifeson but good sense of humor and friendly... the respect and patience he had for us just blew me away.

So, we had Nick there and Nick had us rent a TON of gear from Ocean Way. If you want to see the pics of the session check it out and keep following the arrows to see more: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sonicreali ... 945613056/

It was such a deluxe session mic-wise that I even had my 7.1 Holophone mic there to record the drums from drummer perspective as if YOU were Neil Peart! Pretty crazy. So, once we got going it went well and sounding unbelievable! Look at that kit! Needless to say it took us all day and into the night to sample it. But now it is preserved forever and soon will be something you can buy. I think we're going to release a download version and a deluxe massive version with snare on and snares off, 15+ gigabytes for just one kit. I'm not sure what the size will be of the download versions but probably more like 2 gigs. We'll see. We're hoping to release this in February or maybe sooner. We're also doing it in BFD2. If you have both Infinite Player and BFD2 an inexpensive crossgrade will be available so you can have it in both formats.

Surely it's been already answered but I need a quick answer :)

So do I get it right that :
- Infinite Player (included in the deal) plays Drum Masters 2 Kits (included in the deal)
- Ocean Way Drums Kits (included in the deal) require the OWD Player (to be purchased).

I guess the confusion comes from the fact that the kits can be played in Kontakt (without) the player. However, it is essential to have the player (has to be registered) as it "unlocks" the kits to Kontakt.

Thanks!
No, the Ocean Way Drum Kits included in this deal definitely do NOT require the OWD Player. These were specially made to work with the Infinite Player. There is NOTHING extra needed to be purchased to use ALL of the kits included in this Group Buy.

Very important this information is understood because it is good to know $99 is all you have to spend to get going!

Now, if you want to play OTHER regular OWD Kits THEN you would need to get the OWD Player. But, that's optional and not part of this group buy except that you'll get a coupon to crossgrade to it (which ironically is like getting a free OWD Player! The coupon values are really good).

Hope that clears it up!

Squids you are the star. Thanks for the prompt response.

As usual spreading the word is the key...
Comparison also helps: $99=£60=12 drinks in a pub :)

Post

After 12 drinks in the pub the whole place becomes a virtual drum kit... chairs become toms, mugs become cymbals (hopefully not crash cymbals) and the table makes a very good snare!

But the thing is, if you join this Group Buy instead you won't wake up with a nasty hang over so... the choice is yours! ;)

Here is my take on it: We need to get this in front of people. There are so many details that we need to talk about it over and over again. People need time to think about it, and ask questions. We're at 379 right now. That's a lot of people! If everybody just talked a little... wow!

It may not take off this week, but I think next week will go through the roof! I may be wrong... it may take off this week! :D

I am feeling magic tingles.
A well-behaved signature.

Actually, I'd like to file a complaint on that point: I joined this Group Buy about a week ago, and every morning since then I've woken up with a nasty hangover. Of course, this being the holidays could have something to do with that...

Ok, I've never done a group buy before, how much total and what am I getting? All I need to know :)

Back to DRUMS! I'll update you later. I just had to wake up early to do something with my contact (npi) at NI before he leaves for vacation. A little something extra for you all that joined the group buy. You'll see!
:o any hints :?:

Is that a question? Well, start with the bronxsound post near the top of the page. Then check the GB page: http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?Prod ... ode=USDKVR . Then there are the coupons... where is a list of those? Then there is the surprise for crossing 500.... Then there is whatever else Squids has up his sleeve.

I think that about covers it.
