it is :D

i love my hardware - it is always extra fun getting a new box.. but, i am more interested in better VA software coming than spending a bunch on a digital that my PC could easily mimic given the right code for less money.. patch storage is like 100 times easier on software - my 2 analogs have no patch retention ability..

I disagree... blondes are more fun. :D

and liquor is quicker.

Yeah but with blondes you still need good hardware :)

and liquor tends to make it software :(

 of course you're right. That's why you're supposed to put the roofie in her drink!

I like hardware simply for the fact that you don't have to remember shortcut keys...it's all marked there right on the box. And no mouse = no fuss. :D

They're still hardware:

I disagree.

Some reasons why I feel software is better:

- You can run multiple instances at the same time.

- You can use it on your desktop / workstation, and laptop on the go without having to disturb your setup(s).

- When changing presets all knobs / parameters change to their proper setting.

- Preset management is usually a lot easier.

- When using a controller you can map just the controls you need.

- When using a mapped controller you only need to memorize one piece of hardware.

- Total recall for your projects, very few hardware products offers this feature.

- There's no recording audio / hardly any noise in your audio.

- You can bounce offline.

- You can use high quality controllers that essentially turn your software into hardware. You get all of the benefits with none of the draw backs.

I also agree it's more fun. In fact, I'm seriously looking into selling off a lot of software (except for a few exceptions) because it just doesn't have the thrill factor of hardware. To me, a controller is not hardware; it's just a generic extension of software.

No one said hardware is better. Just more fun!

I think the most fun can be had using both together. After all, it's no fun to use software without the computer hardware needed to run it. :P

Fun is different for everyone.

Definitely more fun. From simple stuff like a couple electribes to complex modular setups, nothing beats a well-designed dedicated interface.

I was thinking about this yesterday... Nobody get's real excited if you bring home a copy of Massive or something like that but bring home a Buchla and watch them go bonkers. Software is more convent but hardware is a lot more impressive.

This is true! No one notices my voluminous library of soft-synth boxes when they enter my home but when they see this...

...eyes light up. People who don't know what the hell it does want to touch it!

It's all fun as far as I'm concerned. Software, hardware, firmware, underwear... the fun is all in how you use it. :D
