I think I'll lean to "underwear" option as a combination of hardware and software :)

You can't play software on a desert island... :P

Yeah but with blondes you still need good hardware :)

and liquor tends to make it software :(
 of course you're right. That's why you're supposed to put the roofie in her drink!
Heh, that's my old joke! "Roofie's don't work! Every time I take one I end up falling asleep!"

hardware is indeed more fun, but the masters said it theselves, it's more fun to compute, so i'm really ambivalent on this one lol

Over the last years I went from a hardware studio with a DAW recording environment to a 70% software studio (my guitar, bass, Axis 9, Tenori-on, AirFx/Synth and KAOSS KP-2 remained). When the dust settled I thought, this is great but the reason I made the migration no longer made sense. I did it because I was about to lose my studio space but that didn't happen.

So I ended up replacing a few things. The Roland XV-5050 became a Roland SoniCell. (Fantom table top box with a VST interface) Some of the VA stuff became a MoPho and Prophet '08. I'm pretty happy with the way things are, though I'm starting to feel that hardware pain in the ass situation a little. It's clutter. Oh yeah, it has knobs and stuff. Those only seem to keep me from actually playing an instrument. I'm starting to think that people who complain that they don't have enough knobs on their synths aren't instrumentalists. I find that aftertouch, mod wheel and an expression pedal are more than enough 90% of the time. The rest is detractions.

So I'm going to stay where I am for now. Hybrid is great but I'm not sure hardware is more fun. In a way it's just more to fiddle with instead of playing music.

Ah, violinist.

I'm still trying to find a good software replacement for my Fender Stratacoustic. No luck, so far. And even the best keyboard controller won't let me have the same kind of performance gesture options!

Guess I'm stuck with hardware! :hihi:

I play piano just fine, but playing the piano ain't gonna program that sound. I don't like presets because it's not my sound. I do use them from time to time but I tend to start from scratch with my sounds or at least heavily edit and pushing a couple of piano keys doesn't edit that patch, damn it wish it did sometimes, though.

:)

The future of MIDI: Brain interface...think of the sound and the knobs magically tune themselves.

2 problems, a lot of my software rack isnt avaliable in any hardware equivalent and if it was there wouldnt be any room onstage for drums etc.

and as far as reliability i need to take my camera with me next time i go to the good guys audio repair and get a photo of that back room.

the real big issue with a software rack onstage is bootup time, aside from that its quite fun.
