*shrug* some people have a little extra money to spend on their hobbies than others.

That's like asking if a 240Hz LCD TV is worth the extra $500 over a standard 120Hz 1080p, or if buying the $300 video card is worth it over the $90 one.

Personally, Soundtoys is on the list for me. Just wish they'd clue us in on a possible bundle pricing, or a possible group buy *wink wink* when the Decapitator comes out.

I tried T-Racks Brickwall Limiter saturation algorithms 1-3 for the clip. It's so (amazingly) close to the sound of Decapitator that it's not worth the extra money.

If the plugin is any good, 80$ isn't a hell of a price.
As long as you can pay only 80$ and get the plugin on its own...

I'd rather go without than get forced to pay 80$ per plugin for that one and -say- 7 other plugins I don't and probably never will want to use. And I'm sure I'm not alone on that one.

quite frankly some tools aren't meant for hobby musicians unless you are a hobby musician with a large budget..
I dont' think they have priced it yet, but I am pretty sure it isn't going to be $80.
That's the problem with software to me, people expect to get the best and pay little or nothing for it. In the hardware days if you wanted the best you paid $3,000. Hobby musicians would buy something that would try to do the job for $300...
now there is software (and I am glad they are) so many expect to come with a beer budget and get champagne....

Don't forget the the effective life span of a plug is..what ? between days to a month. then comes
the next MUST-HAVE-YA-NEVER-HEARD-OF-BEFORE.

But like I've said : demand will ALWAYS meat SUPPLY...

And when there's one with constant craving... there will be the one to make up for it...

I don't want to see any mention of software I can't afford! It's not fair!

I've been using Sound Toys since they were TDM only. Their plug-ins really do stand head and shoulders above their competition. Expensive? Yes, but well worth it if you can afford them. Same with McDSP, Sonnox, URS, etc.

I'm just a hobbyist and I don't claim to have any kind of "golden ears", I just know that I like what I hear from these plug-ins. Not many software effects stand the test of time but these certainly do.

This is something I tweaked fast, but if Decapitator is any good it's easy to spot T-Racks Brickwall Limiter out of the 4 clips.

Absolutely! I also understand the value of good budget oriented products. Ultimately we are "voting with our wallets" for companies whom we want to continue doing what they do. For this reason, I even donate money to the little guys who don't ask for money in return for their products. Their are some true artists at work behind the tools which we can sometimes take for granted.

Yes. These are professional tools and as such demand a modest premium. It's not gouging, it's not usury, it's not cynical. Soundtoys make audio tools which don't land up being flavour of the month.
