Hmm, I'm coming very close to buying this - but still no PPG filter...? That would cinch it for me over the Blofeld.

Merry Xmas you guys!

:)
When all else fails, read the instruction manual.

Anyone else who had crashes with version 1.5 and more than one instance ?
No problems here(Energy XT2)
Seems to be a problem with Ableton Live 8.1. Even 8.1.1 beta 4 still seems to cause crashes... This really su**s !!
I tried Largo 1.5 in Reaper and no problems so Ableton Live 8.1.1 beta 4 seems to be the problem. Until the problems with Live are solved i'll try with Reaper instead.

UPDATE:
I always get a crash in Ableton Live 8 when i open the GUis of more than one instance at one which doesn't happen with other plugins. So even when Live 8.1 is not 100% stable i guess that the problem is caused by Largo. :x

Did you check out the new Arp?
Amazing....Im already into a full Electro/Tech.Min House soundset for Largo out in a couple of months..Following that i'll go for an nice Atmos/Ambient Chilled bank..
Now it's time for a break and some beers.

Cheers

still no custom wavetables/wavetabe editor??!! ah crap

Post

I am a fan of wave table scanning and am very happy that a limit parameter has been added to the oscillators so that I do not have to adjust my modulations to make sure that I never scan up to the "analog" waveforms. That is a nice feature on the Blofeld.

I need to play with the new arp - should be interesting - so many things to do :D

Still no PPG filter? AFAIK they already released it in software (or was that another filter?), why can't they add it to Largo?
Also, is there a downloadable version available for purchase?

Post

Waldorf didn't release PPG filter in software.

I don't think they will. They must leave some edge to their hardware, as well.

The new features implimented in V1.5.0 are enough IMO but each to their own. This version is much more stable than V1.1.0 :) I hope most of you like my contribution to the factory banks aswell as those from the Doc and others of which are great for all types of music.

Merry Christmas

Rob

Brilliance controls different aspects depending on the Oscillator model used. On the Pulse and the Sawtooth waveform, it controls the mix of the discharge impulse of the capacitor, effectively resulting in a waveform with stronger high harmonics. With Wavetables, it controls their interpolation smoothness from perfect interpolation to steps. Those steps create additional harmonics especially in the lower keyboard ranges as they happened in the good old PPG Wave and the Waldorf Microwave and Wave.
That's what I was missing the most in Largo when I demoed it. Very cool that Waldorf decided to do something about that. The other refinements look great as well. I can't really take it for a spin to see how effective the Brilliance parameter is in conjuring a more Microwave-esque sound, though, having used up my demo period when Largo first arrived.

New album, Chasing Fire, out now on Amazon, iTunes, etc.

I don't know is it a bug or a natural behavior, but when all oscillators are set to a fixed Startphase(try 360 degree, for example), then unison spread doesn't spread the sound anymore.

I'm really enjoying this update.

Dang, just make a new e-mail and get a new demo code.
Btw how does a PPG filter sound like? It's like everyone asking for it. What makes it different than the other ones?
And I'd like to ask the users, how does this synth compare to the Blofeld, what's more in that box now?
Just let its Sound do the talking: http://www.synthmaster.com/

I may be wrong, but Waldorf Largo has sound very metallic and without depth. Maybe someday, someone will develop the perfect emulation. For now I am still with my Access Indigo 2, without a doubt the best hardware of the decade. Congratulations Rob Lee. :help:

PPG filter is the same filter that was used in PPG Wave, Korg Polysix, and some other analogs. It's very warm, sought after sound. Waldorf did a very nice job in recreating it.

It can sound very warm if you make it to. Don't judge the synth on their presets alone.

OF WHAT?

Apples and oranges, really.

Unfortunately one bug still remains:
While project are playing(and even stopped) and GUI open, if you adjust some parameters, like cutoff, you will get high CPU spikes. I even reported it to Waldorf.
Check this video:
