What this means is, Squids shows up, stirs the pot, and runs off to some far away land. Probably having Christmas at Sting's French mansion.

While we sit here and pine away for drum kits.... :hihi:
I don't think Squids has gone on holiday to relax in some foreign land...

I think he has taken a trip to some famous artist's studio, and will be working through Christmas to sample that free snare drum he announced he would be giving to us in this Group Buy!

Now THAT's dedication! 8)
Technically this is supposed to be a vacation but I'm still working because... well, I noticed something in the scripts that I didn't like so I asked my coder to change it and now I have to do all of the updating on it! Woops... that's because I am picky. If you want to know what it was, you will probably laugh, but it was because we were calling the "slots" for where you could put the toms and cymbals "positions". I never liked that but as I was explaining it to people -especially e-Drummers who think of positions more as "positions of the snare" (such as the position sensing of a TD20) I thought that we were really asking for confusion there... so a terminology thing like that actually takes days to fix. But I think it is more clear that you have these open "slots" to put kit pieces into as opposed to them being called "positions" which is just not the right word. We actually had this for the toms in DM1. There wasn't much confusion though but still... there are HUNDREDS of people in this group buy and we are going to do unprecedented tutorials on how it all works so I want it to go smooth.

This bundle itself may be a one time limited window opportunity but the product itself - Drum Masters 2 - which is what these features are even coming from (borrowed from for the OWD kits in this) is going to be a major thing for us in 2010. As mentioned there are TONS of different sounds coming - more drummers, kit brands, grooves etc. and they will ALL use this same system. So I want to be able to explain it to everybody so they can make good use of it! You learn it once and you can infinitely expand with the extensive dedicated sound support we're doing. No need to learn a whole bunch of different things. This one is a great system! Easy and powerful.

On top of that there was an issue with the effects connecting with the script for our OWD kits which never had internal fx... so to do the OWD kits with the DM scripts turned out to be a lot more time consuming than we thought. Hence the delay even in the Kit 10m to try out. But we're doing it now even through Xmas so we'll have something hopefully on Monday to play with. A LOT of work for a temporary product in the end but... then again, all the MORE reason to jump on this group buy bundle deal. To think that it's possible no one else will have a "hybrid" of OWD and DM in one with the same features except for those that got this while it was available... it's scary. Because it is SO good! We just don't have the ok to make it a permanent thing is all. So this is it. I hope everyone realizes what I am talking about... you will soon though. The 30th is not that far away.

Okay, I am off to have an enchilada for breakfast. Yummmm.

I will come back later and see if there's any questions for me to answer. I had to do this quick. Just got on line. Needed my KVR fix. ;)

Alrighty, here's a question! So, now that I'm in the group buy, these coupons are pretty tempting. With this package, we get ENHANCED e-drum playability on the OWD kits. So, we start playing them, start loving, then should I:

(i) buy the OWD DL edition - because those might get the playability enhancements?
(ii) Or, just go for OWD gold (i.e., if it is known that the DL editions won't get those enhancements applied?)

I guess part of the question is - what is "lost", so to speak, in terms of e-drum playability from this group buy to the OWD Gold version? And, any update on whether the DL versions will get the playability enhancements that you've mentioned for this group buy. Could one recreate the entirety of OWD Gold through the downloaded multichannel kits at a comparable price (to get any playability enhancements?) Some important questions I think when considering any coupon assisted purchase.

Excited to get playing!

Is the optional "jazz" kit multi-track or, stereo only?

Thanks,
Rich
It's the stereo/quasi Multitrack version.

Hi Squids,

Will we be able to assign midi notes for the kit pieces of all the kits, including the stereo only kits (my understanding is that some are stereo only)?

Thanks!

I've never been invited to Sting's French mansion. But should I get an invite I'll be sure to tell you all about it. I did stay once with a friend who had a place in Malibu that was right down the street from Sting's beach house. It's good to be the Sting!

In fact, when I first moved to LA I stayed with family friends in Malibu and when I went to Grove School of Music (that was how I first came out to LA in 1989) "reality" set in and it was from Malibu to "The Valley". But once I realized LA didn't mean cliffs and huge waves... but also included smog and traffic I found my equilibrium.

I lived in Sherman Oaks. The first celebrity I met in LA was Howie Mandel who was standing on the street corner where I lived (which was on the street of this semi-trendy place called "Stanley's" on Matilija road off Ventura Blvd if you know it). He wasn't particularly nice or friendly. In fact, I've found that the ones that are the least secure in their talents are usually the least friendly. It's almost like if they're a bit of a dick that must mean they are really big time or something... to make up for the fact that they don't really believe it themselves. Anyway, what a schmuck. By contrast I've seen George Clooney, Clint Eastwood and Ted Danson around that area and they were really cool and friendly. Clint! I met him at his own club at the time which was called "Trinity" I believe. So big difference. But I digress (try to keep it interesting 'round here).

Anyway, no I am not in France... and actually I rarely take vacations except for work-related such as a sample session or a music gig (even though I should and it is a New Year's resolution of mine). Believe it or not I am not doing any sample session here where I am apart from my trusty Zoom H4n portable on location sound effects recorder (love that thing). I shall capture some of the ambience of Mexico City which is where I am. Buenos Dias! (and maybe write some lyrics or film screenplay stuff because MAN the scenes I am in are incredible... spicy. You'll see some day. Comedy, romance - believe it or not - and characters!).

Btw, I missed the breakfast enchilada and I am waiting on something from SR guys at the Miami HQ before I can go out for the day. I'm lucky everyone here is ultra cool about me being on the laptop. My ex would have killed me for doing that. But this is important and I want these DM features to be just right for the OWD kits. I want it to be for you guys but also for myself. I plan to use this bundle a lot.

Yes, you can freely assign notes to everything and anything (both Multitrack and Stereo). By the way, the stereo are only stereo in that there is no mic blending per kit piece. But they are multichannel for mixing the levels of kick vs snare vs. toms vs hats, rides, crash, splash, china... and there are also separate convolution room sounds to mix in ambience. So it wouldn't be doing it justice to just call them "stereo".

But the ones we call "Multitrack" have discrete mic mixing per kit piece as well as overall. By the way, that's pretty deep! There aren't too many (are there any besides OWD and DM?) drum programs that let you get a different mic blending mix per kit piece if you wanted. So, those Multitrack kits are fantastic and while they do cost more you all will have some nice discounted upgrade options to get them (if you've joined this group buy - and also you can get 2 so far for free... well, that is if we hit 500 but we will don't you think?)

thanks, that's better then I thought regarding the "stereo" kits. I had throught they were a single kontakt instrument for the whole kit, but it actually is multichannel.

BFD2 and SD2 do let you get different mic blendings per kit piece, but I have not seen a value as good as this group buy ever. I own BFD2 and SD2 and own way more drum samples than I need but I still joined the GB! I do also like the thought of using only kontakt as my sampler for all instruments to keep things simpler. Right now I use kontakt for everything except drums.

Have you tested these samples with Kontakt 4's new lossless compression?

Looking forward to being able to download.

"Little" update in Squidserpool = 3,940 characters

It's all relative!
I should know better than to use words like "quick" or "little" when I do an update post.

(Those words area also not good to mention in bed either).

"2 minutes in heaven is better than 1 minute in heaven." First person to name the reference gets 5 epointz!

I am not a big fan of using data compression. But I am not against it either. It has its place. Certainly for making things downloadable sized for example. However I love the fidelity of Kontakt without it.

I am going to look into SD2 and BFD2 regarding the mixing per kit piece. I believe the discrete control per mic channel is greater in our multitrack kits but I will really have to sit down and compare to be able to explain specifically what is different. Not that it matters that much necessarily as they're all very powerful.

This deal is undeniably great though and yes you really do have more control than what you were thinking. The other aspect of the fact that these kits are multis with a Kontakt instrument per kit piece is the EASE of swapping out kit pieces to make your own custom kit multis... and to be able to do that picking between Ocean Way Drum kits and Drum Masters kits is perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of this bundle. You can REALLY make some awesome hybrid kits cherry picking your favorite hats or cymbals, toms, kicks, snares... a lot of diverse flavors to choose from just in this bundle let alone the things you can expand with.

This GB is attracting lots of attention we hit the maximum level so soon that Squids was left scratching his head as to what to offer. Sorry for going offtopic but I wonder why the Reason one didn't quite take off, it was every bit as good.

I wondered that myself. Right now, there is a refill gb being promoted here on kvr, and it doesn't have that many people. And the product is really good. :?:
