You should try Portugal's food. It's absolutely great and very natural which seems to be hard to find these days. We had a group of about 40 americans 2 years ago in a restaurant near Leiria and they went crazy about it.

My girlfriend is Venezuelan and i also have a few friend from abroad and they all agree that Portugal's cuisine is delicious. But hey every country or culture has its own traditions so none is better than the other just simply different and it all comes down to the individual tastes.

You should definitely try it out some day.

I heard on the tv that a food contest happened at New York about 2 or 3 months ago and a portuguese lady won it by making a delicious portuguese dish.

Getting anxious to try it out?

we all live and die in a window of time here on Earth. All vulnerable to the same things. All eat, sleep and go to the toilet... I won't elaborate on that but you get my point. Many illusions in life.

One thing I like to think about -if you'll forgive me getting philosophical here - is that no matter where you are in the world compared to the next person the sky is more or less the same! Clouds, sun, moon...
Words of wisdom here :!: :tu:
Thanks. I've heard from others about the food from Portugal and yes I am looking forward to trying it very much! I also LOVE fresh. Huge fan of that for sure!

One piece of advice to anyone traveling and this is obvious to most perhaps but just in case it helps someone... Try to find out where the locals like to eat. It doesn't necessarily matter how the place looks (don't judge a book by the cover). Often those are the best restaurants as opposed to the touristy places or the fanciest ones.

Regarding my philosophical commentary... thanks. It was nice to see what I wrote struck a chord with some of you. Sorry to anyone if it's too off topic, pretentious or preachy. I obviously mean well. Look, each person has their own beliefs which we're all entitled to. What I think is good for anybody is to recognize what is common amongst us. It's also good to look up from wherever you are. A GREAT perspective we all share!

Musicians tend to understand the concept of breaking the illusion of separation between people better than most because music itself is such a universal language. The world can always use more musicians and lovers of music!

One last thing I'll say before I get off my soap box is that emotion is also a universal language and it is important how you feel. Good to get into "the zone". Musicians understand that because it's "the pocket of the groove" or that awesome solo (Steely Dan had a song that said "You're never gonna do it without the Fez on" which I believe was the imaginary hat you'd have to wear to get the take that was right on the money). What I find is that there is a "zone" to almost anything you do if you can find it. That's a general way to put it that I think is a one size fits all kind of statement. So I hope it was inspirational.

That said, I hope you have a great day and I'll be around over the weekend if anyone has any questions about the group buy or wants to hear some music-related stories... or Squids' world cuisine if you prefer. ;)

I think, as salesy as I can get sometimes it is ironic that on one of the most popular holidays for doing a "One Day Sale", instead I am here talking about how we're all one! I like to be unpredictable what can I say?

Well, you know, it's all about balance. I'm a salesman because that is how we're able to get what we create into the hands of those who might appreciate it. It's our job to get you excited about the product but we all do genuinely want you to enjoy it.

how're we doin' om the 'closed hi-hat choking open hi-hat' option ?? :D
Well, you can set the foot which closes the open hi hat to be on any key you want in "Custom" map mode.

Hi,

I signed up for the group buy using PayPal, and it said that PayPal won't work, but I read ReverendRhythm's advice here:

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... start=1290

...so I emailed allen at esoundz dot com.

Is that all it will take for me to get into the group buy using my PayPal account?

Thanks in advance,

G

Just stopped by, and Squids has got me all teary eyed, so...

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I've got a friend who likes to say, Hey, we're all just bozos on the bus." Everybody has common struggles. So I'm with you, Squids.

It's just that some of us bozos are excited about some new drum sounds!

hmmmm....i must have been mistaken...i thought we were gonna be able to assign the hi-hat to choke the open...i have no problem with the placement currently just that i need to press it before the closed hat

this might be a dealbreaker for me...and i've already paid :(

Bozos on a buss huh? Yes, that is a funny way to put it. You can look at it both ways in the sense that we are all just as clown-like or fragile as the next person - no matter what one may appear to be on the surface. At the same time we're ALL amazing if you think about it. Just the fact that we exist is incredible. It's easy to get caught up in what surrounds us in daily life... our jobs, our friends, family, money, possessions or lack of any of it. But if you think "how is it that I think?" or that your body can heal itself or that you can create music by combining different frequencies of vibrations or even have a conversation making essentially a bunch of noises or typing a bunch of characters... So it is kind of a yin and yang thing about being humbled and de-ego'd (made that word up! haha) and at the same time being empowered with greatness. I think the balance of that is the key place to be. Confident but not cocky. Humble but not selling yourself short. Know what I mean?

But the Bozos on a buss is a catchy alliteration. Sounds like a Jimmy Buffet song!

Have a good one!

Assign the hi hat to choke the open? The open is a hi hat too. You mean to close/stop an open hi hat by hitting any of the other hi hat keys including another open? This can be done by setting the polyphony to 1 for the hi hat instrument.

There are a few other techniques that can be explored to do various things as well. But, even on a real hi hat one does have to deliberately be closed. There are ways we can make the closed hi hat automatically close it.

haha, we've been here before

i tried the polyphony to 1 idea but it doesn't allow for me to roll on open hats etc

i will be using my mpd16 mainly...with battery and ezdrummer it is possible for the closed hat to silence the open hat with one hit...like me, it kinda assumes that for a closed hit to sound the pedal will automatically be pressed

the battery solution works well because i can assign polyphony of one to as many or as few articulations as i like allowing for multiple hits on an open hat without choking while also allowing the behaviour of stopping with only the pedal or closed hi-hat

the only 2 articulations that should silence the open hi-hat are the pedal and the closed hat, hence setting polyphony to one across the whole lot doesn't work

drummers having the use of the extra limb can quite easily use the pedal to silence the open , split-seconds befor a closed hit...something us finger/pad drummers can't use

Hi squids,

Quick question, since the download will not be available until dec 30th, are you going to have enough bandwidth for all of us downloading it at once? 500 users downloading 17 gigs.....

Post

You know, this is another thing that I've wondered for awhile about and I think what we're going to do is make it default that Foot AND Closed Hi Hat shut off the opens. The way you're wanting it. I am going to make an alternate "less popular" version where ONLY the foot closes it for myself and anyone else who likes it that way but I think that most people are used to it how you are wanting it so... Merry Xmas! I just did it under the hood in Kontakt and it was super easy to do. All I had to do was put the closed hats into the same group as the foot and it was done.

The reason I personally like the shutting to be done by the foot separate of the closed is because technically speaking you would always hear the sound of the foot closing the hi hat after an open in real life. So you could play both if you wanted. With a hi hat you couldn't hear JUST the closed sound after an open - you'd have to also hear the foot. But this is perhaps being picky about realism. The other reason is that I really like to avoid open hats unintentionally getting cut off so for finger drumming I like the choking key to be tucked away there on the F which is less likely to be accidentally hit. But it's nice to have it both ways. So there you go!

Well, we may have to spread it out over a few days and/or people will have to find a "low traffic" time to download it. There's no time limit to download it so you can take your time. We've done it before and everything worked out fine.

Merry Christmas to all of you e-drummers, v-drummers, squids, reverends and e-soundz fanatics!

I can't believe you are actually working on Christmas day! Well I guess I can believe it, since I'm kind of working as well. But it is more of a fun and experimentation day... installing some new software, sorting through some sounds, etc.

I just purchased myself a Christmas present using one of those NI discount coupons... I bought myself the North India Kore Pack for the Kore Player. I decided I needed more Tabla and Sitar options, and at $50 bucks it seemed like a good time to do it.

Ho ho ho.
Somewhere in the background zedd
