If I was playing an e-Drum kit I would probably prefer these. If I was producing an album and creating a drum track for it then I might prefer the multi-track discrete mic mixing ones but both would still be handy.

Hope that helps you and anyone else wondering about it. Also, I think that these special stereo kits are a good place to start (and you certainly get some great variety in this package). But the fact that you all are getting at least one and maybe more Multitrack kits as a bonus in this group buy then you'll have a chance to see the difference first hand... and that's an even better way to know if it's for you.
Agreed...having both to use will give me the opportunity to play with. Then I'll really see the advantage of the MT like you said. I already have the MT kits and grooves in DM 1 and see the advantage there. It's very generous of to give us the MT. I appreciate that.
It's good for everybody to have that just to be able to see for themselves. There is also a trade off of the flexibility to mix the mics (but takes up more polyphony to do so and CPU power) vs. less flexibility with the stereo (but not too much of a compromise since you can still mix the relative levels of the drums and process them individually both in or outside of the plug-in) where it takes up less polyphony and CPU power to run!

Sometimes I might use a stereo/QMC (short for Quasi Multichannel) in the writing/sequencing process and then when it comes time to mix pull up a multitrack kit. This way there's more CPU, ram and hard drive access speed available for other instruments I'm working with at the same time while arranging the song... then, later on I can concentrate more on the drums specicially and maybe track it to audio (good idea for many reasons).

Oh and one other advantage to the stereo kits is that they load faster.

But believe me, I love both and we have something for everybody. Some people don't care HOW long it loads and if you just want tons of flexibility, lots and lots of samples... then EpiK DrumS has that. Some kits take up to 2 minutes to load in that one but they're up to 10 gigabytes in size each with no data compression. When the stereo/QMC versions of those come out they will be useful in the same way... writing with the stereo and mixing with the multitrack.

But remember each person can use these differently. I wouldn't tell someone they need the multitrack if they don't. It all depends. Best way is to try it out for yourself. It IS fun to blend the mics... many possibilities no matter which way you go.

Thanks. I've heard from others about the food from Portugal and yes I am looking forward to trying it very much! I also LOVE fresh. Huge fan of that for sure!
You you stop by Portugal give me a call and i'll give you a tour through our best cuisine. :) It can rival with the best french or italian cuisine at ease.

Cheers mate
That's very nice of you to offer. I LOVE French and Italian so if it's THAT good then I may have to find a way to get to Portugal... maybe Sonic Reality needs a good distributor there. ;)
Maybe one day who knows

Cheers

The weird thing is that I got three e-mails... one to announce each of your posts.

There must be some KVR bug that is sending announcements for each double post.

Too bad we can't just delete our mistaken posts. I've made that boo boo numerous times myself.

Cool story. Yeah The Hedge and Hono are cool guys. ;)

Was that at Criteria? Sonic Reality's studio is right down the street in that area where all the recording studios are. We were right next to Yngwie Malmsteen's place. Although he moved and has it rented out to someone else now.
Hey Squiddy, that was actually at South Beach, though I've worked a few times at Criteria/HF... I wasn't there (South Beach) long, just completing some requirements for school. Seems like everyone I've ever talked to that has anything to do with "You Too" (Tu Tambien in Spanish!) just bends over backwards to talk about how nice they are.

Yngwie! LOL I see him all the time in his Ferrari going to the Starbucks on 135th (I live there- at the Starbucks, I mean!). My girlfriend used to work there and she said he was just ridiculous with his drive-through orders. A real diva. "NO! Place the splendas at a perpendicular angle to the hypotenuse of the fourth angle opposite of the latte!" She didn't know who he was, but the first time she described "Ferrari Guy," I just knew it was Yngwie!

Oh, yeah, and also this Group Buy on drums sounds is very good.

Just had to keep it on topic. :)

Well... lucky for you much of this continues over at the eSoundz section of KVR, with Squids continuing to answer questions and give more information about products all year 'round, and many of the regulars of this GB participating over there.

I'll tell you a funny story that involves Yngwie. It's so bizarre actually. I'll include a bunch of different artist names in this one since they make unusual cameos in this particular evening's tale which was at a NAMM show some years back.

IK and Sonic Reality were sponsoring this mini concert event along with Dean Markley and other companies. The show had Nuno Bettincourt (too lazy to fix the spelling), Yngwie, Jordan Rudess and all sorts of other musicians. One of the people organizing the event told me that Jon Anderson was going sit in with Nuno so (being a Yes fan) I said to him "Oh really? Ask him if he'd sit in with us!" and by "us" I meant myself and some of the guys I used to play with in LA with an artist named Kevin Gilbert. The drummer was Nick D'Virgilio who is one of the Drum Masters drummers (NDV). He's played with TFF, Genesis, Peter Gabriel and all sorts of artists including his own band Spock's Beard. Really talented. Anyway, both he, myself and the others were thrilled to play with Jon (and Jon said Yes! no pun intended). He said to take our pick between "Long Distance Runaround" or "Your Move (Seen All Good People)". So we picked the harder one... of course.

Then, the person who made that happen got carried away and said "Do you want to play with some of the original guys from Earth, Wind & Fire too? How about the horn section from Christina Aguilera's band?" So, to me I'm fearless so I said "Sure, bring it on!". Ricky Lawson was drumming for that part and I was the musical director for this segment. We were going to do a few Genesis tunes with Nick singing, then the Yes tune, then they were going to come on and do a few EWF tunes and then everyone for "Owner of a Lonely Heart" with a real horn section to finish off our half hour set. It would have been SWEET! That is uhhhh... if we were able to at least do a sound check or rehears a SINGLE note of it!!!!!

This is where Yngwie comes into the story. The short version is that he took up ALL of the sound check/rehearsal time jamming with his band and no one (not us, not Nuno, not anyone else) had a chance to try anything... and my ambitious last minute obscure combo needed it the most! I thought we'd at least have ONE run through! Nope.

So, I had to think quick. I didn't want to direct a train wreck. So we axed "Squonk" and "Owner of A Lonely Heart" but still took a chance (had to) on playing the song "Long Distance Runaround" with Jon Anderson (the person who wrote it) without a single note of rehearsal. I had no idea if the guys had learned it or not apart from a thumbs up. The good news was we pulled it off pretty good! Jon was happy. We had fun (stressed but it was still fun and a great memory now). Whew! That was a challenge. Anyway, thanks Yngwie!

Now, if the evening couldn't have been more strange, I had also talked to Patrick Moraz earlier that day who I've met years ago and he asked me for tickets to go to the show! So I got him tickets and he loved the show which normally itself would have been really cool. A past keyboard player for Yes watching you play keys with the Yes front man and him complimenting you on it... pretty awesome. But at the time I was more concerned about the fact that he hadn't seen Jon since the mid-70's! I had no idea what terms they parted in or anything so I was a little nervous about Jon saying to him "How did you get in?" and him saying "Oh, Dave got me tickets!" Who knows what sort of can of worms I was opening there... But, luckily it was fine. Playing with Fire (not just the Earth and Wind).

What a night huh? Anyway, despite Yngwie's studio which used to be down the street from ours in Miami I actually never talked to him there but I did see the Ferrari.

Hello All:

Haven't been here in a while but I'm definitely in on this group buy. I do have one reservation, however. I am currently living and working in rural Alaska (and I do mean rural). Our Internet service here is slow and dodgy (on a good day). I recently ran into a problem when downloading large sound libraries for another group buy. It took forever and often the download would quit in the middle and I'd have to start over. And these were for zipped files.

That being said I was wondering if there would be an option to get the sounds/samples etc. on discs? I'd be more than happy to pony up for the media and postage costs to avoid the download nightmare that I am anticipating. Unless the downloads are in small file sizes (400 to 500MB tops) I'm going to have a difficult time getting all of the stuff.

Here's hoping . . . :D
