But don't write off the Toontracks stuff...it's really excellent for sketching out songs in no time flat, and the drums are surprisingly good. Plus you can drive them with no end of MIDI sequences from OddGrooves and Groove Monkee. It's what i'd use if i were trying to demo a song for a band. The eSoundz drums here are for other purposes, where the only musician is me...

I'm just a ho when it comes to drums, i admit it...DrumCore, RMV, GURU, Battery, on and on...

=fn<x>
i'm not writing it off...well, actually i am :)

i really like a tight drum sound, hence why i'm looking forward to owd 4...i fooled around with ez stuff and of all the kits, jabo funkmasters could have been the only it i ever needed (save for some nasty crash and ride cymbals)

i have no use for midi beats as i play my own with an mpd16 and then add dynamics , extra ghosting etc in the matrix

it will be the same workflow with this...i'll work with my standard 16 pads to knock out the basic feel and vibe because i play better on the pads than the keys...then i'll use the imaps extra articulations to enhance it afterwards...so, this group buy selection will be just as useful in the mockups and finished version

"Barky"? Nice adjective :hihi:

Do we actually get to SELECT an MT kit if we hit 500? I'm confused about this one... :?

How can we stay informed (after this thread dies out) on these types of updates, tips and tricks, etc? Will you be posting here, on esoundz.com, via email or what? I'm VERY interested in keeping in touch with everyone! I wanna hear what you guys come up with and/or learn experimenting with the new kits :hihi:

Also, as you know Squids (beating a dead horse here, sorry) I am still eager to see some video tutorials (including some finger drumming techniques) ;) :D

Well, I hope you treat your ppl to something extra. Sounds like you're workin' 'em overtime and some bonuses are in order ;) You're a generous Squids so I'm sure you'll hook 'em up :)

Thanks again for doing these group buys Dave. We just can't seem to get enough of them and 500+ is a big pay off (win/win) for us :tu:

That would be awesome. I use an MPD16 or a keyboard, but usually find myself writing the MIDI notes with a mouse instead. After that I edit the dynamics and add some variations. It's a very tedious process. I hope to incorporate this software into a couple of current projects, and will try to record via keyboard or the MPD16.

Holy crap! Yeah... you've got to use the keyboard man! Not only is doing it by mouse the longest and slowest way, but you are not connected to the groove. You've got move some fingers or some limbs and get some feeling into it... AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: try to have fun actually recording the drum track.

With the round robins and variations in these GB drum kits, I think you won't be able to resist playing drum grooves on your keyboard. Instant gratification. :-)

Hi Squids,

Just got my eyes opened for this G/B and I'm ready to join the line and jump in before it's too late, but I have one important issue:

For how long will I be able to access the downoad(s)?

Currently I'm travelling and won't get back to a reasonable DSL connection until mid-April. Is that too late to download?

Best,

Joey
If it were easy, anybody could do it!

I can answer this one...

It will not be too late. The downloads will remain in your downloads area for years. I still have download access to stuff that I ordered back in 2004. And if for any reason it wasn't there, Allen would help you out if you just give eSoundz a call. So no worries. :-)

Thank you,zedd!

I'm taking the plunge…

EDIT: Done! That was painless…;-)

I'm looking forward to trying the keyboard again. From what I recall, the timing of the recorded drums was terrible. In part because of my playing and in part because of some slight delay between me playing a note and the information being recorded.
I remember also using the keyboard and recording the bass drum, then another pass for the snare, then another pass for the hi-hat, and so on. Terrible approach.

I can record guitar, bass, harmonica, some keyboard, and sometimes even vocals, but drums hate me :)

zedd wrote: I could probably spend a couple of days converting all my existing MIDI grooves from BFD and DrumCore and sorting through them in EZ Player Pro.

zedd, EZ Player Pro does the conversion on the fly. You just tell it in which format are recorded the midi files inside a given folder and the format you wish for the output and done.

And you can change the output any time from a drop down menu. Say you are using a midi file with BFD and you want to compare it with Drum Masters: just change the midi channel to point towards the Infinite Player (or Kontakt), and change the midi format output in the dropdown menu inside EZ Player Pro to match with DM, that's all.
