MIDI on iPhone

Yeah, anyway, it's the next thing...
I do agree with brok landers on only one point : it is a little bit to small. For a greater experience of multitouch screen, we could hope something a little bit bigger. But the iPhone stands in the hand, and in the pocket also. That's why it is so famous!! On last hollydays, I just had to take it in the pocket, and go with a bicycle to a Wifi point to surf!!
Sorry to repeat myself (but am I the lonely one to program here?), the MIDI class in the OS would be better, and we could ask it together to Apple...

2brok:

OK, back to the topic: I don't own an iPhone, but erm seriously! if I ever consider buying one (or what's that thing that runs Korg DS10?), it's for the opportunity to have some quirky music app on it, be it MIDI or audio. Accidentally, I got a Kaossilator as a gift for my last birthday, it's ultimately un-serious (although... it can sound like a Virus, he-he), but it's a big, big pleasure to play with -- and to make some cheesy/fun/foolish music with. It's like having a bicycle or a scooter in addition to a car. Not quite serious, but cool. And anyway you still can ride it to your job (and without traffic jams!)
Correct. That's why I wrote "in the long run, at least" in my original post. Words trigger, if I may put it that way. And hell yeah, I'm all for being serious in "I'm gonna make with all my effort, knowledge and talent" way. I'm not a big fan of Wagner-style "behold! I'm serving the Muses here!" way of seriousness thoughimo words never kill - people do

Having just gotten an iPhone 3GS for Christmas, I was wondering...
As of now, I see apps that allow you to overdub audio (Four Track) and convert audio to MIDi (MIDI Recorder), but nothing that does both.
As has been described elsewhere on this thread, one of the things that makes little sense is to do stuff on iPhone that would be easier or just as convenient to do on a computer.
Obviously, there are some good sketching tools. But one thing I would be very interested in is an app that takes advantage of the fact that it's on a handheld phone -- where, say, you could sing a few parts, loop them, and convert them to MIDI, which you could then upload to a computer. That way, you could arrange a rudimentary song all while, say, walking your kid to school while only having to use a minimum of keystrokes.
Does such an app exist?

Anyone? The ability to write mobilely this way seems like it could be huge -- and not that difficult from a tech perspective.

@ OP
dream on, apple will probably use some proprietary shit protocol anyway (why use OSC or MIDI standards when you can lock your lusers into your badly coded protocol?
)
(btw im no hater nor fanboi, i have a touch and would like it, but apple are so subborn it might just never happen, sad as it would have been a great loop sampler for live use, but without midi, its useless

Funny how the latest and greatest does less for more money. The palm PDA had hardware midi adaptor 10 years ago. Mine (T5) plays DIVX movies, has 3 inch colour touch screen and is thin, ok its not a phone but then the latest isnt always the greatest. My Palm is 5 years old and still kicks ass.
