We'll spice it up. The Hybrid Kits may have some additional samples that aren't in the main ones just for even more variety of sounds. Don't worry. I'm going to do that even if we don't hit 600 but if we do? Great! Good for you. 600 = more. At this rate you may just do it!
Squids,

I really like the idea of being able to swap out drum and cymbal pieces from various kits. I don't know what your plans are, but I think that would be a cool way to add on to these kits in the future too. For instance, the Danny Gotlieb cymbal collection you've mentioned or a snare drum collection or a deep toms collection or roto toms (that would be great!) -- is that how you plan that how you've planned this to work? I think it would be a really great way for users to get just the samples they want in a kit -- really, just like the way we drummers put together our own kits (e.g., choosing the right snares and cymbals to get the combination we like).

Is it relatively simple for the average user to swap out/add in kit pieces from various kits on his/her own?

Yes, that is what the Drum Masters Signature Kit Series is about. The MAIN Drum Masters 2 Multitrack series is about Kits and Audio Grooves with engineer/mixing mic channels. But the Drum Masters Signature Kit Series with these "STm" kits (which are stereo kit pieces but the kits are multichannel - just without discrete mics per kit piece) are for people that want kits to play with midi either from the keyboard or e-Drum set up they have and with EASE they can customize and make their own kits or use the vast amount of patches that come with each collection (like the 80+ that come with this GB bundle for example).

Here's a sneak peek at what's going to be in the Drum Masters 2 Signature Drum Kits Series and each one of this will be something people who join this group buy can upgrade to for a nice discount:

DM2 Signature Kits Vol. 1 - this has the STm kits of the original DM artists such as Danny Gottlieb, Jerry Marotta, Steve Gadd, Bill Bruford, John Blackwell, Nick D'Virgilio and Ed Greene... but with DM2 features. It includs some previously unreleased Gadd and Bruford kit content that's pretty good and of course all of it has the new scripts/features.

DM2 Signature Kits Vol. 2 - this one has STm kits that are mostly of previously unreleased samples. It includes signature kits and snares like the Stewart Copeland Tama (and Octobans!), Dennis Chambers Pearl, Dave Weckl Yamaha, Steve Gadd Yamaha (which comes with this GB as the bonus) plus some MORE Blackwell and Nick D'Virglio stuff, some GREAT all new Bonham style kits including the Moby Dick HANDS style kit and other cool stuff. Ringo kits and more.

DM2 Signature Snares Vol. 1 I don't have the final list but these are going to be ALL snares. It will be out in February/March or sooner if possible. It will have snare brands like Pearl, Sonor, Tempest, Fibes, DW, Ludwig, Grestch, Rogers, Slingerland, Tama and others. It will also have some more artist snares. I don't know if Manu Katche's will make it onto this volume or the NEXT volume of snares but that one was sampled as well. Oh yeah, we mean business.

Then besides that we have the Danny Gottlieb Cymbal library which we may split up into individual Signature Cymbal titles or a hats one and a ride and crash one... not sure yet. But that's coming and it has an ubelievable variety of hats and cymbals including some famous ones he used on Jazz records and cymbals of Joe Morello, Don Lemond and Mel Lewis - jazz legends. I did a post about it earlier but... who knows where that is now! Lost in cyberness.

Then there's going to be either a volume just for kicks or kicks AND toms together - more likely. That too will include a lot of different brands and a full set of Rotos (the hi AND low ones) plus more.

All of these additional libraries of individual Snares, Cymbals and Kicks/Toms are new unreleased material for the Infinite Player. So you can customize until the cows come home. It really is like having a collection of vintage and custom/rare drums and cymbals to make any sort of "hybrid kit" you want. We'll teach everyone how to do it but it is so easy it's ridiculous. You just load a multi kit and then click the "X" of the kit piece you don't want and then go to the Kontakt/IP instruments folder and load in the kit piece you DO want and then save back the multi. Couldn't be easier. So it's going to be quite INFINITE (more infinite the more kit pieces you have to swap).

So, now, so people understand why I STRESS that this Group Buy is a MUST HAVE. If what I just wrote appeals to you then PLEASE understand that to have OCEAN WAY DRUM kit pieces in this is a ONE TIME DEAL! After this limited lifespan of this Ultimate Studio Drums Bundle is over we will NO LONGER be able to sell you OWD kits for the Infinite Player to mix and match with all of these other kits. It's not my choice. We got permission to do this once is all. So don't miss it and regret it later. We won't be in the position to do anything about it. I don't know when we will officially have to stop making it available at all but I am pretty sure it won't be any longer than 5 months from now if that. Fair warning on that one and I only say it because to have Ocean Way Drums kit pieces to mix and match with Drum Masters Signature kits is REALLY great. It expands the flavors for Hyrbid Kits SO much more. Many of you will see soon what I mean. But even conceptually it's got to be exciting. Think about it. A hat from this, a tom from that, a kick and snare of this brand or that... a lot of material to play with to get your own unique sounds.

I think I made a good joke here: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-co ... ost4934432

Although I hope he's not serious... not sure what the rules are over at GS. They've been pretty cool about it all this time at least. I really like that forum too. I've learned a lot there about gear.

I just had to check a million samples visually and had itunes with a bunch of Dan playing. That one was one so instead of thinking I just wrote the lyrics. Great song though. I was actually listening to the live version which is a bit slow but kind of cool that way. Anyway Peter Erskine rules. Josie and Green Earrings on that live album are just sick. As you can see by my previous mega post that my brain is back in action. Just a temporary sample coma.

That's very kindred of you Kindred! Although 1 out of 538 is just a start. Patience will have to be wide spread. This is a BOATLOAD of stuff... we got a little crazy this time. But a good final group buy for the year! Count down to 2010 which is going to be a big year for SR and the Infinite Player. There's over 300 gigabytes of material being released between the drums, workstation instruments and sound effects... wait did I say workstation instruments? WOOPS. ;)

I think Squids could find this. Heck, he may already have it in the vault!

But in the meantime, check the OWD kit 4 dry. No Timbale, but it might be something you could work with. Check the demo. Maybe... maybe not.

BTW, we're at 530 now! :D
I think between this and the upcoming Signature Percussion titles which I forgot to mention I think you'd have some nice drums for Reggae. Signature Percussion Vol. 1 will have some nice timbales. Vol. 1 will have more plus Steel Pans and all sorts of other cool stuff like marimbas and other mallets too. Good for all sorts of music from all over the world and fun to integrate with the drum kits. 2010 is going to be fun for you guys.

Oh also Ken Scott (engineer/producer for David Bowie, Elton John, The Beatles, David Bowie, Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Supertramp, America, Duran Duran, Pink Floyd... and you get the picture - he's good!) helped us record a bunch of the percussion for the Signature Percussion titles. Volume 1 should be ready in the next two months or sooner. randombastage wrote:What is the scope of the midi grooves this bundle has? I have EZ Drummer and am in need of more pre programmed patterns not just better samples. Is this something that will provide a large selection of midi grooves?
Yes. The ODD GROOVES are more prog and classic rock grooves. Per can talk more about them since he's also participated in the group buy AND provided those grooves. So big thank you to Per and Odd Grooves!

The Squidi Midi (silly name) is the first release of finger drum programmed grooves that I do on iMap. So some of it is funky and groovy and some of it is fusion nuts... some of it is straight forward pop, hip hop, rock and classic rock styles too. I didn't do song form this time. But if we do a bunch of song form stuff we'll make it available for free to ALL Infinite Player users how's that? I know some of you want that. The other thing coming (not in this GB yet but coming in 2010) are midi grooves from the master players in the series. We captured midi triggers when they played most of the time or some of them are coming to the SR studio to do V-Drum midi capture (like Danny Gottlieb who is a good friend of mine, Nick D'Virgilio in LA and John Blackwell who doesn't live too far away). So midi libraries will grow from us - particularly ones that take advantage of the additional performance articulations which make those midi files come ALIVE.

I'm hoping for some Jim Keltner grooves. Also some Motown type stuff.

Squids wrote:(4) as ANOTHER bonus for reaching 500 you can have yet another Drum Masters Multitrack Kit.
Which MT kit(s) will we be selecting from? Can it be any kit from the DM2 library?
Squids wrote: (7) Impulse Responses -- Convolution ambience from various world class studios these drums have been recorded in.
1. How many?

2. Will there be included info on how and where these were recorded (mics, rooms, preamps, eq)? It's helpful to have descriptions of the spaces like: large, small, ambient, dry, stone surface, wood floor, etc. etc.

These Impulse Responses may be considered an extra but they are a big reason why I joined this GB! I have LOTS and LOTS of kits including, many drum libraries from other companies. These convolutions (esp. for the dry kits) will prove VERY useful and I'm really looking forward to hearing them :)

3. Will these Impulse Responses be accessible outside of Kontakt (IP)?
Squids wrote: Mp3s demos of each of the kits for easy auditioning of the default kit sounds.
Yes! This is a priority for me. I felt it was a missing piece in DM1 (last 2 group buys) along with the video demonstrations. Right now, I have to wait for everything to load in IP, run through several midi loops, tweak, rinse and repeat just to see if the sounds are going to work in context. No biggie but time consuming and a potential flow killer when you're writing music.

These forthcoming mp3 demos would cut A LOT of that time out by giving me instant access to the basic tones (in use) so I can review and check if they will fit the track before investing too much time. Invaluable! Thank you and please remember to create these in the midst of all of this manic mayhem!

Ok, I'm already asking for too much at the $99 price point (sorry) but hey! I'm a salesman too Dave ;) As much as you like to see the big numbers on these GBs (well, we all do! :hihi:) I like to see the insane deals get as insane as possible (and then some) so it's a win/win all around :!:  8)

Great questions. I will have to answer this in detail later. The first answer is that we're going to have a selection of MT kits that are the MT versions of kits in this GB only (not from the whole range... this is only $99 - you know better!). But the choices will be of NDV Premier MT, NDV Gretsch MT, JB Sonor MT kit and maybe one other one like the Blasticks kit.

Well I'm in now!

A proud owner of SSD Platinum and now some Ocean Way drums! I should be set for my drumming needs for quite a while now!!!

Motown stuff we have a bunch of and there's a nice Motown style kit in Signature Drum Kits Vol. 2 coming out (being in this group buy will get you a $99 off coupon toward that title... essentially making this GB FREE if you look at it that way). That titles is only $199 so... when that comes it out may be what you want OR you may opt to just get this because it has live played audio grooves in that style complete with foot stomps, snaps, claps and other percussion. It's a recreation of the multitrack sessions with the kit and grooves.

As for Keltner... well, I am doing some drums in the style of Steely Dan. Not sure if we'll have him or Rick Marotta (Jerry's brother btw) or some other guys (we already have Steve Gadd and Ed Greene on Signature Kits Vol. 1 coming out). But Keltner is great too. I sat in on a session with him once. I drove Patrick Warren there who was doing keys. Not sure the artist. Tony Berg was producing and it was at The Complex which is a really cool studio in West LA. Nice to meet Jim Keltner. What a talent.

Here's the thing for "some" of us...

Im a guitar player needing good sounding kits and midi grooves for recording. I have no idea by the names of drums or grooves (well very few ideas) which ones to choose and which ones to pass on. I assume we will have choices when the Ocean Way downloads start up in our user area, so in guitar player terms, which choices will be the absolute ones to get for us drummer lingo challenged guitar players? 8)

I'd like to second this question and expand on it:

1) I don't really care about grooves. I can make my own and prefer to, even if they might not be as good. What I want are amazing drum sounds/kits. How many does this come with? It sounds like I can't have the Ludwig kit as I will need the player, though I already have Kontakt.

2) I have Kontakt and Battery. How much better is this than what those two offer out of the box for what I'm after? Keep in mind I don't care about loops or grooves.

3) Why should I get this as opposed to BFD or one of the other competitors? Or just buying some drum sounds for Kontakt/Battery?

Thanks.

Cool story, must have been fun. Signature Kit 1 you say? I believe I'm on board with that! Or the EpiK or the, geeze, what a selection over there!
