Bloody 'ell mac! ..you still around? I should have been in bed about 4 hours ago ... except the love of my life ... who normally stays out late with reprobates on a monday, has slipped on the ice ( which we have a lot of right now ) and fukd her ankle .... and taxis are somewhat less common than snowflakes at the moment ... so, pissed as I am, and well ready for bed, I have to stay up and help her get from said invisible taxi to 'dry land' ... so hows the weather where you are??

Hope it's nothing serious... how's she now?

Weather here was worse a few days ago - in fact, I crashed into a wall with my car, no big damage, but enough to get pretty pissed, considering my monthly wage...
Anyway, I normally go to bed at like 6 in the morning and get up at 2 pm...

As Radio 5 are currently discussing how bad the weather is in Scotland at the moment, it must be bad - those London based softies normally don't talk about anything north of Watford

My part of Norfolk largely got away with it by the nice warm North Sea...

Swollen ankle, twisted knee, doin OK on the painkillers and icebaths ... at least she can walk, so I can do my gig tonight without worrying too much ... I'll see she's OK before I leave .. like in front of the telly with grapes, chocolate, cigs and whisky

Glad to (edit:)hear the wife is good, my mother broke her ankle about 20 years ago and one of our cats(our first feral rescue and rehab) at the time had got out and she was trying to get the cat from under a car while in a cast, imagine two people trying to catch a semi- feral cat while non stop laughing, it was one of the funniest this I've ever seen.
The cat was caught but I nearly died laughing.

Shame about the missus' ankle there Tattiemannie, but seems like she's got a very considerate mate to take good care of her..

About the gigs you do btw, I take it you play keys? What kind?

Rogue loaded ok, but I can only get mono sound out of it? (as opposed to stereo, not polyphony).

It sounds to be 'monophonic' in that I don't hear combined ('block chord') notes on a single channel/track (but just one of the multiple notes), and there doesn't appear to be a polyphonic button.

The sound in my headphones though; it is clear in both L and R.

V'ger, are you saying that the thing is panned all the way to one side or the other?

Hopefully, everyone can get their issues with Rogue worked out.

No the panning is ok, it just seems to output a mono signal only as seen in the DAW and it's also audible. I can put it on a stereo track, but it sounds the same as on the mono one which is frankly thin.

It seems to be a VST 2.3 plug so very surprised if it only does mono out as I can't remember last seeing a mono VSTi 2.x, so probably something on my end. Will check some more.

This rogue seems a bit tricky to use. no adsr for volume?
As I'm starting to make my own synths I'm curious if a synth has to be stereo.
Or is a synth which is mono still OK.

About accidents, My wife and I crashed on the bike with a dog a week ago, I cant use my arm, but at least its not broken. The weather is OK though, probably 30C as usual.

Ouch with the arm and also your car Mac, seems to be a time for accidents atm. (knock on wood)

But 30C in Sweden? Must be in the south then..

About mono synths, I would say that is almost a no-go now. I see now Rogue is indeed mono, and the only other mono-synth which I have atm is Smartelectronix' Asynth, and that sounds thin too. It's not even in use, I just downloaded a whole bunch of freewares everywhere to try them out and still haven't started to trim the folder down.

I've been reading some threads that for deep bass sounds or kicks mono can have some merit in a mix so as not to muddy things if they are too wide, but then they have to be really deep for that to be justified imho, as so many synths will do well in stereo and still sound tight, but then I'm no expert. I just think it's gonna be a real challenge to make a full song with all the instruments out of a mono synth, I guess minimum 2 instances for most sounds and 4 or more for the non-bass sounds, each panned hard left and right..

midnight hatsize: I like the way this one is constantly changing up. The 'shaker' sound is pretty cool, too.

Fnsintro: It sounds like artillery. The cymbal sound is good. With the 'foghorn' it sounds like a destroyer dumping depth charges into the ocean.

The Brightest Star: As with the other pieces, this synth sounds great! Kudos on making it happen. Indeed, this piece does sound like 'the brightest star.' The handclap sounds are solid.

The CheeseFlex: The kick sounds really good, but that's the least of it. This is another amazing piece.

The best part is how the various rhythms play off of one another. The 'key modulation' part makes it cool.

The Conversation: It sounds like a student/teacher exchange. Solid percussion. I like the 'static' thing which pops up in various places in the stereo space.

Flex-n-stramish: This is baddass! Great work on the percussion and everything. It sounds like a hybrid between '70s and '90s dance club music... wow. Another thing, this isn't the only piece from the contest where at least a couple of the 'lines' sound kind of like the electric guitar.

The Flexorcist: This is another outstanding piece.

Bits 'n Pieces: Again, some great percussive sounds. There's never a dull moment with this one.

Fast 'n Slow: This one is a change of pace. Great tone all around.

Flex 'n Morph: Great stuff!

Flex N Primative: This piece is a bit more understated than many of the other entries. As with the others, there's a lot of great tone in there.

Flex N Stars: This is another, more ambient piece.

Flexenstein's Lab: I really like this one. The percussion and the rest of it all blend together nicely.

Flexible Friends: This one is endearing. It actually sounds like friends.

Flex-n-Dance: More outstanding percussion here. This one morphs around a lot. I like what sounds like a sort of slight key change in spots.

Flex-n-Stains: For whatever reason, at first this one sort of reminds me of an electronic Dvorak, having just returned from a visit with the aboriginal Americans ('indians'). The 'main motif' sounds 'pentatonic.' Then, some 'accidentals' are added in for colour.

These tracks are all great!
