sweet, it's all coming together now. I am downloading Kontact player now. Thanks for the answer. One more question: you said to install and activate the infinite player in Kontact player; is that a special process, or am I just going to hit install and it will know where to go? thanks again.Squids wrote:Here's how it works:michael2 wrote:okay, I'm a little confused. I bought in the other day, and I saw on the group buy page that you get Sonic Reality's Infinite Player plug-in powered by Kontakt. I just saw a few pages back that these drums were made for Kontact? Is that true? just want to make sure that all I will need is the Infinite Player to use these in Logic (i don't have Kontact).
Pardon my ignorance, but this thread is 116 pages long and I have another stupid question: why would you want EZ Player for this library? I see that it is a bonus if the sales get high enough.
Really sorry to butt in with dumb questions; just wanted to make sure I can use this. Thanks.
These sounds are all in Kontakt format so they'll play in Kontakt or Kontakt Player FREE (as long as you install and activate the Infinite Player which is Sonic Reality's expandable library module inside Kontakt).
So, when we say "Infinite Player powered by Kontakt" that is how NI wants third party sound companies that license the Kontakt Player to say it. We normally BUNDLE Kontakt Player with the product but now NI gives that part away for free (thanks NI... adds to the confusion really but it IS nice that you can get it).
The key thing here is that Infinite Player isn't a different player. It works INSIDE Kontakt or Kontakt Player FREE. It "unlocks" the copy protected sounds of this Group Buy (and other Infinite player format sounds from Sonic Reality) so they'll be able to be played in Kontakt or Kontakt Player.
Does that make sense? I agree it is a little confusing but this is the system we have from NI to work with and have to explain it when someone understandably doesn't understand.![]()
The GOOD news though is that this is BOTH a virtual instrument (via the bundled Kontakt Player/Infinite Player unlock key) AND a library for Kontakt if you already have the full version.
In any case, ANYONE can use this. You don't need to BUY a sampler like Kontakt to use this. It works with Kontakt Player which we'll give you OR you can even just get that for free from NI... but you DO need to activate the included Infinite Player.
NOTE: For those that already own the Infinite Player you will be able to choose a Ludwig Jazz Stm kit instead. But for those that DON'T own the Infinite Player you MUST choose it in order to be able to use these sounds - even if you have Kontakt Player or full Kontakt.

We don't have a separate "player" from Kontakt Player. We only call them Infinite Player or Ocean Way Drums Expandable Player because they come bundled with Kontakt Player. But, now Kontakt Player is free from NI. That's great! But you still need the serial number and activation of those expandable "libraries" (Infinite Player and/or Ocean Way Drums Expandable Player) within Kontakt for them to unlock the copy protection of the sounds (otherwise they'll just play in demo mode). So there's no way around it. You have to install and activate the OWD Expandable Player to play the regular Ocean Way Drums kits. You have to install and activate Infinite Player to play the sounds of Drum Masters.dimitar wrote:Please consider to sell Ocean Way Drums separate Kits, working on the Kontakt 4 or 3, without the need to buy your Player.
But, just to avoid confusion here, the OWD kits from THIS group buy do not require the OWD Expandable Player. ALL of the kits in this group buy - OWD and Drum Masters - ALL work with the Infinite Player which is a different serial number and activation as a library than the OWDE Player. So these specially modified OWD kits that come with the Group Buy that also have different features like V-Drum, Custom E-Drum, Round Robin and more do not require anything but Infinite Player to be activated (and IP is offered in the group buy without having to purchase it separately). Once activated all of the sounds of this group buy will work within Kontakt Player or Kontakt (if you have Kontakt).

When you get the Infinite Player installer there are instructions. But it is pretty straight forward and not very difficult. You have to activate it with the serial number after installation and you do it through NI's "service center" which is how they authorize all their plug-ins as well. Many people here are familiar with it if you have any trouble if this is new for you or anyone. Plus we have a great support team at esoundz.michael2 wrote: sweet, it's all coming together now. STm is the name for the new enhanced Stereo kits. You don't see it yet because it was dubbed that part way through the Group Buy when trying to explain the new Stereo/Quasi Multichannel kits. There was a great post on that oh about a hundred pages or so back...sockofgold wrote:I keep seeing the "STm" acronym being thrown around, but I don't actually see a definition for it anywhere. Can someone help a brother out and tell me what that means?
The short version answer is that the kits are STEREO kit pieces (no discrete mic mixing like the Multitrack kits) but the kit pieces come as multichannel mixable kick, snare, toms, hats etc. at the bottom like this:

Then there are still some separate multichannel elements to mix in such as convolution reverb rooms with impulses from various studios these drums were recorded in and other famous studios around the world, echo chambers etc.

thanks Squids. BTW, here's a picture from when we recorded at Ocean Way years ago (with Sylvia Massey in the very un-Ocean Way little overdub room). Our drummer decided to streak one night on Sunset and they wouldn't let him back in until the next day:

We're going to have to deliver these starting the 31st now - especially considering the extra bonus STm kits which should be included. But we'll see. We might split this up either by material or by people. Our servers are powerful but the can't handle 550 people downloading 20 gigs at once. We were originally thinking 200 people... so we can handle it but we have to spread it out somehow. Patience will be required!autodafe wrote:crazy!!! 545 people...it has really picked up in the last hours or so...

Wow Squids. I don't know how you find the time to do all that you do.
I can't believe all of the thorough answers you keep giving to each of the newcomers here. You are very dedicated, and working harder than anyone to make this Group Buy a success.
Many thank yous.

Haha. Cool. I don't think that scary little overdub room still exists there now!michael2 wrote:thanks Squids. Our drummer decided to streak one night on Sunset and they wouldn't let him back in until the next day:
I used to do sessions there with T Bone Burnette, Sam Phillips and one time I was there working on Sam's album "Martini's and Bikinis" (I had borrowed a folding harmonium from Jon Brion and played it on one of the tracks... cool instrument, I ended up finding one later for myself) and I saw Jack Joselph Puig who I knew and he grabbed me and pulled me into the mastering room and said "Listen to this!" and it was the song "All is Forgiven" off of Jellyfish's Spilt Milk album... and it was FULL BLAST louder than the human ear is supposed to be able to handle. But it sounded amazing. No one had heard that record before so to hear that QUEEN/BEATLES/BEACH BOYS style production was just blow away at the time.
Anyway, I remember always wanting to sample sounds at a studio like Ocean Way. I didn't know Allen Sides at the time but heard of him and all of these other gurus who had all the best gear... Shelly Yakus and all of the Pultecs at A&M... I used hang around all of those LA studios in awe of the gear and the live rooms. So, that's why since then I've been on a mission to capture deluxe sounds from studios like that and rare instruments that most people don't come across so that everyone can have that luxury quality. If you've recorded at studios like Ocean Way then you must know what I'm talking about.

small world: Jason from Jellyfish played on a bunch of stuff we did. THanks again for everthing (and for putting this together).Squids wrote:Haha. Cool. I would like to drive/use all these kits in JamStix. This will be possible?
What I mean is, will these drum kits be in the same format as like say "Battery" uses, so that Kontakt can read them? And since Jamstix can use Battery kits.... Am I making any sense here? Sry but Im new at this as far as what extentions certain programs need to use...

Zedd I appreciate all of your help. I have searching like crazy for a snare that can sound like that within plug-ins. I miss my old drums.zedd wrote:I was looking up Ocean Way Drums online to see if I could hear some audio demos of this dry Kit 11, and I realized that there are audio demos for all the Ocean Way Drums on www.DownloadableSoundz.com. Wow. I didn't know they were all up.
I went through all the kits, and I have to say that whoever picked the Ocean Way Drums for this group buy (which I assume is the Squidster) really did pick out most of the best drums in that collection. Bravo! We are getting the very finest of the Ocean Way Drums here. Good work!!
Aside from the Kit 11, which I really hope we can get, I do wish it were possible to also get Kit 6 Dry. Isn't there any way for you to get that snare added to our collection, Squids? Just the snare? Man I would love that. We are getting the Kit 6 Medium, but that Kit 6 Dry would be really useful as well. It is the most appealing OWD snare to my ears (and the closest to the roots reggae snare sound we were discussing earlier).
You folks can check it out for yourself here:
KIT 6

KIT 11
http://www.downloadablesoundz.com/detai ... uctID=2651
Links on the right hand side of the page will allow you to navigate to the other Ocean Way Drum kits.
I also like Kit 5 Dry and Kit 12 Medium.
As for Kit 11, it is a toss up for me between the dry and the medium. I like them both, but probably the dry will be more versatile.
That snare from Kit 6 is killer and could definitely get close and would definitely be useful for multiple situations.
I'll be in on the group buy tomorrow and will list you for the epointz if I can figure out how to do it.
And Rev Rhythym, thank you as well. I think I can hopefully make that snare from Kit 4 work for what I need.
I can't wait. This is a hell of a deal! Thank you Squids for this.

From my knowledge of Jamstix it will work fine with kontakt so you will be able to load the group buy kits within kontakt and then trigger them from jamstix.spikey wrote:I would like to drive/use all these kits in JamStix. This will be possible?

Someone with more experience with Jamstix might chime in with more info but from my understanding yes you will be able to do what you wish to do easily.
