Well, as the subject suggests: Are there any known plans for 64bit-versions of Amplitube, TRacks etc ?

thanks

Thanks, still the question is whether IK intends to do something about it ?!
I for myself will invest in companies who are proactive with 64bit !

My new sig says it all. If *any* dev wants my money, make a 64 bit version...

Post

Good luck with that. Some software is written with code that cant be ported to 64 bit due to the software development tools being 32 bit only. The devs cant do much about that. To quote Zaphod :

"The x64 conversion is not simple at all, it requires a lot of testing, a in some case a lot of headaches. Sometimes there is even a bigger issue: a x64 compiler was not released (for example bcb). It's true that c++ should be compiled everywhere, but SOMETIMES developers rely on local libraries (in the same example, vcl)"

Post

well luckily I already have what I need- and yeah I know its not always a recompilation. However, if you want to be a "developer" you should know its a treadmill...

x64 conversion not being simple is no excuse. x64 is the future, get onboard or fall behind.

Bear in mind that Apple hasnt gone 64 bit for DAW work yet (very few 64 bit apps/plugs) - PC users are priviliged to try 64 bit DAW attall currently. Yes, 64 bit is the future, but for DAW - its not now. perhaps people expect too much too soon?

Exactly! Any statement from IK Multimedia or its affiliates on 64bit plugins ?

Too soon??? The first consumer processors capable of 64-bit computing were released six years ago! We've been doing nothing but waiting for developers ever since.

You make it sound like its life or death :) It will happen and you will have different issues - new 64 bit versions will have new bugs. I guarantee that it wont make your music any better. I know 64 bit seems like the answer but I dont believe the hype.

If it runs in a x64 HOST on a x64 OS and it is 32 bit... who cares? IK stuff runs fine in my x64 environment. As a matter of fact, the only plugs I can't get to work consistently are:

Melodyne (new version) and
Altiverb

I think that the DEVS should at least make sure their plugs can run in a x64 dev even if they don't port the app to 64 bits. That's where they are missing the boat IMHO.

I didn't want to be silent in this thread, but there's really not a lot to say though. There's no official roadmap for 64-bit native versions of the programs at the moment. Things do work in 64-bit environments and we'll continue to work on hardware drivers to ensure maximum compatibility. I just can't say there's any dates for any 64-bit native versions. thanks!

Everyone knows 64 bit audio sounds twice as good as 32 bit audio, and four times as good as pathetic 16 bit CDs! Its time for action. We can't let the Russians get it first :-o
