92,000+ views and over 2,300 posts. This thread is HUGE! Can anyone say they've read it all? War & Kit Piece (Rev likes that one).
Here's a reply that has something to it... figured I might post it here too. To all the people who have thanked us for working hard this is what I have to say:
On the bright side I had these really cool tacos today that they don't seem to have in America. (I am in Mexico City right now). It's called Taco Pastore (forgive the spelling) and it is kind of like a Gyro meets a Taco. The tortillas are corn and made fresh right there which is just incredible. I live in Miami so I would think there'd be more of that but I haven't seen it. So to me even taking a break to get a taco like that is thrilling. I'm not hard to please.

So, for those that don't know me (Squids the on line character part of me), I am more personable than a typical company would be. Granted KVRians are spoiled with such contact directly with developers. I like to think SR was part of a trend in that direction being one of the first company forums here and now there are over 30? Cool to be a part of that movement of companies in this industry being in closer communication with the users of their products. My style is to be real, to be down to Earth and raw uncut. I like to tell it like it is. Most people appreciate that honesty and know there are actual humans on the other end that truly care. We love doing this and your support allows us to continue doing what we love. For that we are truly grateful.
Happy New Year (as New Year's Day comes to a close). I am going to carry on until I drop. I may lose a bit of my skeleton crew... getting late there in Florida (an hour behind here). My head is ready to explode... but I took some sort of Exedrin Migraine which I think might help. I don't know. "Nothin' a little bourbon and soda couldn't fix". OHHHHH! GOOD ONE! GOOD LUCK WITH THIS ONE! First person to name the movie gets 10 epointz! Yes that's right. 10 sound buckaroos. "Dames are simple. Never met one who didn't understand a good shlap in the mouth or a shlug from a 45". Also from the same movie. But be careful, there's a twist. You may know WHO it is but is it one of HIS movie's or someone else's kid?
Here's a reply that has something to it... figured I might post it here too. To all the people who have thanked us for working hard this is what I have to say:
Thanks. I'll put away the violin. This is our job and if we run into delays our responsibility is to our customers over our vacation... plus it's my own fault for choosing a stupid time to end this so I deserve it really. But it's a great product and we're proud to offer it to so many people. No complaints. This was a huge success but what comes with that is hard work. Work we love... but doing it now is just 10 times harder is the only thing. I had to wait 5 hours for the latest newest hot out of the oven Jazz kit to upload from where I am...Thanks for all your hard work.

Great. Done. Btw I noticed you had two accounts somehow. You might want to talk to Allen (allen at esoundz dot- com). I put the epointz into the first account that had epointz and Gold level membership.brazilian_samba wrote:![]()

Well folks it seems that our web developer has fallen asleep at the Qwerty. I'm going to plow on still through the night but I think other SRians back at the home front are falling off into dreamland. So we'll have to pick up and wrap up Phase 1 delivery tomorrow. This seems never ending but there IS light at the end of the tunnel. I don't remember group buys being THIS hard... but then again we've never done one for essentially 30+ new download products before!!!!! Figures the craziest one we've ever done was the most popular as well. Still, this is the new stuff. Starting off the new year with the new stuff is a good way to begin! An entirely different SR in 2010 with more gigabytes of samples than you can throw a stick (or brush or mallet or hot rod) at!

happy new year to you from the other side of the world, where its 3/4 of the way through Jan 2... looking forward to those drums, but I think I'll hand around to investigate the DVD option... with download charges here it might be cheaper. Anyway I'm one of those dudes who doesn't mind the wait. I prob cant even install this till I get a new HD....!

So I haven't received an e-mail with redemption codes and there isn't anything in either my esoundz or downloadablesounz user areas yet so I'm assuming that will be coming tomorrow?Squids wrote: ...

No worries since I'll probably have to set aside a whole day just to download the Infinite Player and Kontakt anyway. Then it will be kit by kit, inch by inch until it's all there. Get some sleep boys and God speed in the morning.

Also Kontakt Player 3.5 Mac and PC is available from www.sonicreality.com in the support section for free. This is needed if you're on a Mac Power PC computer such as a G5 or non-Intel machine. Otherwise I suppose you might as well grab Kontakt Player 4 from NI to use. Either will work on most up to date machines.
Took a much needed "nap". Now I'm back... gonna finish this M$#)#$(*@#@@%()&*$%! Then possibly join the living later. We'll see.
Making ebow's new default hi hat change (which I agree with) work with all of the various maps in Multis and Instrument files -AND- doing the special "DK" IMAP version (which I still personally prefer - you want to know why? Because I actually play sloppy I realized and part of the whole fast finger drumming thing is accenting on that G# key a lot - even while simultaneously hitting the F# inside closed key... in fact I might even personally like the FOOT to be on that G# without closing the others - but don't worry I didn't go THERE too. I might personally customize it for myself with that depending on the song which anyone can do if they wanted to in Custom Map mode) - wow that was a long parenthesis... where was I? Oh yeah, doing all of that required a bunch of extra stuff for me to do at the end. That was one of the things on my plate. But anyway it was worth it. I am the odd man out on that one. OWD got a lot of RAVING reviews (won Key Buy and Editor's Choice which is the only thing we've worked on that won both) but if they made a point about anything the traditional hi hat closing was one of them. Although not everyone fully appreciates what the iMap offers for live finger drumming... the SOS review I remember in particular the writer didn't seem to get into it. In Keyboard they did though and the writer has been using iMap for a while.
By the way, I am not the only one who finger drums with iMap. If you could see how many people come to the SR booth at NAMM just show me up! In fact that is how I met that guy at Frankfurt Musik Messe who schtouped the same girl as I did in 1995 from Bordeaux. He was finger drumming like a madman... hmm, yeah I know there's a dirty joke in there somewhere but I'll keep this PG-13.
Anyway, this is the best iMap stuff we've ever done. It has finally reached its optimal form and I have a good sense of what is "common" amongst most iMap kits of past to present to make iMap midi files that should work for most - even going back to the 1997 "Interactive Drum Kits" for the Akai that ILIO still sells. Well, a few things in that are missing but for the most part the core of iMap has stayed the same since then. But now that the new kits have round robin those original articulations come to life.
Okay back to my reorganizing, resaving, repacking, reuploading... normally there's a whole sound team knocking something like that out in half a day. Not this time. At the end of the day it all falls me. That's how 'tis.
In any case, if there are any super sharp sound developer/managers out there that would like to apply for Sonic Reality I am making a new position this year for that. It's upper level and pretty strict requirements to be a second me in certain trouble shooting, problem solving, a "get it done no matter what" philosophy with a keen ability to make both the employees, the boss and the customers ALL happy! Also a unique objective impartiality which seems to be the hardest thing to find. I've noticed that is a rare person but I am determined to find that this year. Also some extra help in web development would be good too. Both gigs do require living here in South Florida though. I say "here" as if I was there but I am still in Mexico for another day. I was planning on seeing the pyramids but had to skip it for this bloody ebow hi hat! (just kidding man! You rock).
Anyway, I'll post the above job thingy in our company forum. I just thought there's an outside chance someone is confident they could fill those sort of shoes AND lives or wants to live in Sunny South Florida. Out of close to 100,000 views perhaps there is someone who fits the bill. "So you're sayin' there's a chance"... and no epointz for that one. WAY too easy.
Listening to Wild Children by Van Morisson right now. Got a little playlist going with Caravan and Angelou... some classic good stuff. I met him once. Funny story about how he was super nice to me but my British friend who got me into Van was a huge fan and he was completely ignored. Must be an Irish vs. Brit thing I guess. Not sure. Or perhaps my friend was TOO excited and I was more mellow and approachable... I told you overzealous makes people nervous! Anyway, the way that I got backstage was so bizarre. I was working on L. Shankar's record at Joe's Garage which is Dweezil Zappa's studio in the Valley and we were taking a break and I went to the Van Morisson concert (this was in LA in the mid 90's) and I look on stage before the show and see Shankar. (for those that don't know, Shankar plays this unique electric "double violin" - which I actually sampled but can't release - anyway, he plays ALL OVER Gabriel's albums - especially PASSION - and also on Phil Collin's Face Value... and Mahavishnu Orchestra back in the day etc.). So, anyway, I say "Hey Shankar! What are you doing here?" and he says "Oh I am playing tonight". So of course my next words were about getting a backstage pass! Haha. I love hanging backstage, watching the show from the side of the stage, talking to the musicians before and afer the show. We do that stuff much more now because people often use some kind of software or sample library and that is a ticket backstage itself (ehem, incentive for the new member of the team? We get treated like royalty when it comes to local concerts - free tickets, backstag passes... sorry, I have to sell that position little
) anyway back then I didn't have a sound company or anything so I had to resort to plain old weasling and begging to get backstage.
Oh I will end this morning's mega post that's all over the place (first time a job position was offered - two even - and a Squidstory and a reality update resided in one post!) with a good "tip" for people who at least want a good seat to a concert and don't have any connects. If you dare, go without a ticket about an hour or two before the show by yourself and ask if they have any last minute cancellations at the box office and that you're looking for ONE ticket. Even if you go with a friend each of you should first see what the best SINGLE seat is in the house. You may be surprised it is 12th row center for FACE VALUE as I have many times. Hard for them to sell ONE seat as most people go with someone else but if you're serious about seeing and hearing it then I think that is a good tip. I did that for a Steely Dan concert because... okay one more little story here (who else can I tell this to anyway?). I was on tour with Shankar playing keys for the WOMAD festival which is this world music festival that Peter Gabriel headlines and has about 17 other bands play all day and other festivities. Cool show. Maybe some of you have seen it (maybe even the one I was on in 1993) anyway... I was playing in Indiana where my bro was atttending college at the time. I noticed that Steely Dan was playng that same weekend and at the time they hadn't played live in 20 years or something and I wasn't sure if they were ever going to do it again so we went and... unfortunately we couldn't find the place and drove in circles on this weird circling highway there... ironically I think they were playing at the SAME place he came to see me play! Deer Creek or something (if you live there say hello). Anyway, I was DETERMINED to see them so I think that was the first time I tried my tip above where the next time I was in the same town I just went ALONE at the last minute (got the tip from someone on the tour in production). Anyway, I went alone, sat in the 20th row center and just relaxed and enjoyed the show. I think Dennis Chambers was playing (hey we have the Dennis Chambers Signature Snare sampled in Drum Masters 2 Signature Kits Vol. 2!).
Now this post is complete. It wouldn't be without at least one reference to drums and a little sales pitch at the end.
I probably wouldn't be so bold and pretentious as to post all of that stuff but some of you seem to enjoy it more than reading a music magazine I try to provide some... raw reality (no puns intended).
Ah that was a nice break. Now back to tedium.
"I want you to meet me, are you there?" That was the end of the Van Morrison playlist. Now onto something completely different. Sigur Ros!

For anyone looking for the KP3.5 upgrade, it is on the SR "Downloads" page. Squids, could you clarify (here and on the SR page) whether it is for Mac or for PC? 650MB seems a bit big to me. too.Squids wrote:Also Kontakt Player 3.5 Mac and PC is available from www.sonicreality.com in the support section for free. This is needed if you're on a Mac Power PC computer such as a G5 or non-Intel machine. Otherwise I suppose you might as well grab Kontakt Player 4 from NI to use. Either will work on most up to date machines.
I guess that those mappings could be badged "Director's Cut"Squids wrote:I might personally customize it for myself with that depending on the song which anyone can do if they wanted to in Custom Map mode
Is the latest and greatest iMAP compatible with the older SR products (Drum Masters 1, Sonic Capsules) and the drums in SampleTank 2? I ask as learning 2 iMAP variations would be a bit confusing. Perhaps you could consider updating the patches (.nki and .sti files?) for those products.Squids wrote:Anyway, this is the best iMap stuff we've ever done.
Will you cover the interview travelling / hotel expensesSquids wrote:In any case, if there are any super sharp sound developer/managers out there that would like to apply for Sonic Reality I am making a new position this year for that.

Yeah, I'm in the groove. Feeling much better today thanks. I put I-tunes on shuffle so I've got some Who's Next playing in the background, dealing with a few other things not just the hi hat. I noticed a couple of minor things someone missed on one of the OWD kits that I came up with a workaround. Obviously if I find anything like that (some empty alts -not necessarily engaged but if you went to select them there'd be nothing there. I will explain how that all works) we will have to make a simple patch update. Not a big deal. But one has to remember this is a custom made thing and not even a permanent product and it was a stretch to try to get the OWD kits to also work with the new scripts... yet of course it has to be right! And anyway it is totally worth it. Anyone who has used OWD DL kits before is going to love it this way. I think I have a strong case for getting all OWD DL kits to be updated with these features so there's a bright side. Maybe all that work will end up being used for a more permanent product. Obviously the hyrbid kits in this will only be in this one and also the snazzy background. But the features... I have to think it's gonna happen. I will let you know when I get confirmation on that.
Okay back to it for me! "Even if it takes a million years" - okay, name the song for the regular 5 epointz. It shouldn't be THAT hard if you know what I mean.
