O.k. - I just modified one of the 'bread'n butter'-patches and saved it with the 'save-patch'-function, but each time I reload it
my fx-settings are reseted to their default state.
I thought 'hm, maybe I have to save the fx-settings
as fx-preset first' (which I'd find rather awkward)
but nope, still my fx-settings aren't save with the patch :? :help: ?

Post

Nah, fx settings are saved along with the presets. Is it the effect type, or the effect parameters that are lost ? You have to be aware that parameters defined through the user sliders can override other parameters. Therefore, if one of the user sliders is used to control a parameter on the effects page, the actual value of the effect parameter will be overwriten by the one defined through the user slider.

I hope this makes sense,

:? - actually the setting get lost for an effect which I added to the patch and I didn't define any user
sliders for it - else it would make sense of course

Damn. Is it reproducable ? Can you send me the fxp file ?

done :)

OK. I've just emailed you the solution.
One of the user sliders is actually controlling your parameter, as explained above :)

wow - I am a complete idiot

- I must have assigned it by mistake without noticing
it at all  :help:

Anyway: That was for me the first proof of your excellent customer service I heard so many good things about :D thanks a lot :D

Sometimes, what parameters are assigned to a slider are not obvious. To avoid problems like this I suggest you unassign the sliders if you make heavy modifications to a sound and resave it.

Do this by turning USER LEARN on, hold down CTRL and click in the name area of the slider you want to clear. Then assign your parameters as needed. Of course, turn off USER LEARN when finished.

Thank you very much Daniel - will keep it in mind :D
- b.t.w.: Your 'bread'n butter'-bank really has some
incredible patches - fantastic work you've done there :D

jens,

you've just hit the tip of the iceberg on user sliders; they can be both a blessing and a curse.

the key is realizing that the user slider automation itself is an entity; saved with the preset, but independantly of the thing it controls. replacing effects, or even turning them off, will not affect any predefined automation.

you can completely clear a slider, as daniel explains; that is a bit heavy handed. here is another trick...

identify which user slider is controling the parameter in question. then set the parameter where you want it to be. click 'user learn' to toggle it on. move the parameter up a notch, then back to its original position. jog the slider. click 'user learn' to toggle it off. this will lock the parameter in place -- it is still assigned to the slider as a control, but with a range of zero.

i am very familiar with the sliders, so i will follow this up with a post on the suggestion thread.
