It was 2010 like 6 hours ago here, but happy new year to you all!!!

Post

Happy flu to everybody
Shall you forget world economy is collapsing :x

Post

No flu here, fortunately, and my own economy started collapsing when I was born and it's still collapsing, so nothing new to me
Come on, we will all get better, I'm sure!!
Happy 2010!

I thought Italian economics were always based on going bust :hihi:

The UK has obviously learnt well from you :hihi:

Happy New Year to Everyone apart from tattie - Happy Hogmany to north of the border :hihi:

Cheers,

I'm not familiar with the term, if "bust" means "broke" then yes, that's the way it works over here, especially for me ;-)
Actually, the way it works here is "we're all broke and with s**t up to our ears, but we pretend all is fine and we're all happy because we were able to buy a new cell phone and a designer shirt". Thankfully, I'm not part of that group...

I see, thanks :)
My favorite on the subject, however, is still this don't mind the comments, people can't go beyond MTV, to me it is one of the most intense tracks ever (keep it loud, not too much, but not soft)

Its is planned destruction, not collapse. Certain people
think controlling everyone with one international currency
in the digital domain is the endgame. A crisis is always
helpful to scare the muffins and bimbos into surrendering
their freedoms, so a crisis is what they will create.

Scary thought indeed... possibly true?

That's kewl.. :tu:
"a Scotsman of English descent who enjoys playing Russian, Indian and Arabic riffs on an American strung, Irish tuned, Greek built instrument of the Armenian tradition in the manner befitting a possessed Hungarian?
From the sublime to the ridiculous, Fred is neither, but everything in between"

Lol
... so is Flex-n-stein4
Oops, so it is... *cough* I see it has 2 outputs which is why I didn't catch on it was mono..
i'm tempted to fire up 'Rogue' and see if I can convey the essence of whisky in musical form!
Shouldn't be all that difficult with a synth that promises to 'brown' and 'fry' the sound..

Anyway, happy new year to all.

I've been playing with Rogue this evening. I can say it's pretty much normal bass synth capable of generating analogue basses as well as sharp chiptunes. Lack of standard ADSR is not a real problem. I'm still having problems with understanding controls and signal flow inside this synth, so my fun stops on modifying existing presets. I noticed too that distortion section with knobs having creative names isn't that scary and it has tools to create and shape noise (that helpful for drums creation).

I'm very curious about having this synth in the next OSC. I don't know which synths had been used in previous OSCs (multi purpose or narrow specialized), but IMHO it's easy to create every sound from huge general purpose polyphonic synth, but I'm very interested if it's possible to create whole music piece using more limited tool? ;)

Happy New Year! I hope you had a good Christmas :)

P.S. I'll cast my votes soon.

Post

Hi folks, everyone sufficiently recovered? :)

Still 8 days to get those votes in,

I'm gonna have another listen and see if I can seperate the tracks out a bit .... it's gonna be difficult, cos once again the standard is superb .... but on the last couple of listens, I felt there were 3 tracks in there which fell into the 'stunning!' category so I'm fairly sure the task is already broken down into deciding which order to place those, and then find another two which merit the 2 and 1 point allocation ... which may be equally critical when the points are all in :)

...You're not alone there dwsel, there are some who want to head in the direction of a more primitive synth/device, whist others feel that such restrictions take the pleasure out of creating tracks ... so there's always a bit of compromise, and almost always a difficulty discovered with the featured synth within a particular environment. But feel free to propose potential OSC candidates .... I do keep a note, and I have a big list which I'm gonna post in the next couple of days when I've had time to add a couple of names to it.
Re. previous comps, you will find the link to previous comps/tracks in a notepad you will see if you click the 4shared link in my sig below :)

... I have a fine example of a piece of an entire track made with no more than the fading out chord at the end of another track ... I'll post it up if you like :) .... it may inspire us to pick up on a previous discussion re. a One-Sample-Challenge, but will certainly demonstrate that a limited source can produce a huge range of sounds if the permitted fx and processes are liberal enough.... but then, that a whole other debate :)

Post

Personally, I love Odsay by elektrostudio, though that can't be called exactly limited. I think i'd make a fine OSC candidate.

Post

Yeah Mac, +1 on that .... I have 'Oddy-free-v 1-2' .... but any version/emu/revamp of Oddy would be cool! :)

Anyway, I've listened to those tracks again ... wow! ... and I have a good idea where my voting is gonna go, but I'm gonna hold off til I can finish writing my comments on all of them.

I've found it especially difficult in that the tracks I think are 'stunning' are not necessarily the ones which I feel allow FNS to sing in its own voice/accent ... there are a few in there that are overshadowed in terms of composition and production, but, for better or worse, are 'telling it like it is' about my baby :) ... and maybe understand and love my 'baby' to the extent that they dont wanna turn her into somethin' she aint .... on the other hand, there may be a good case for showing my baby what she can be and maybe should be :hihi:

So, it's a weird one for me .... but just want to say thanks again for letting me hear what can be done with this beast. Free of the distraction I experience re. what it was built for, and why, you have collectively thrown up a collection of sounds which have taken me by surprise and make me proud to be the designer of Flex-N-Stein4 ... as well as a huge collection of reference points which I can refer to when I develop it further :)

Post

I'm down to eight tracks, I just do not know who I should remove from the list :(
