New Page News:
Squids wrote:Alright so to try to manage this for everyone let's do this.

1. Please don't post "I haven't gotten my "X" yet. What should I do?"

The answer is the same: email support or directly to allen

allen (at) esoundz (dot) com

(We right it that way so spam bots that scan KVR don't send him even more spam)

2. If you're find an issue that you think others my have too or know the solution then I've created a thread in our COMPANY FORUM which is a better place than this fast moving marketing forum thread to try to help. I know that experienced users like DarkStar and Rev are able to help some of you and I am too in the midst of everything... but it is going to get LOST in here so post those here please: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 62#3925262

If people can re-route people to that thread for that it would help.

3. If you're having trouble getting things going please be patient and rest assured all people will be helped, assisted and supported as best we can. We're not a HUGE company with a fleet of people ready to take your call. But, we're a professional sound company that has been in this business for over 12 years. We will make sure you're all set and we have an AMAZING community of cool users of Sonic Reality products that love to help each other.

4. If we find that an issue someone has reported either directly to Allen (and you can CC me too if you want - dave (at) sonicreality (dot) com ) or if they think it is something that might be affecting others and posted it here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 62#3925262 and it is something that affects everyone then I will update everyone both in this thread and the vital info thread.

Thanks for cooperating. I want to minimize confusion for everyone is all and I also want to go to bed before midnight tonight. ;)

To my taste, some of the kick drums are a bit too "boomy", but the snares and the toms are really wonderful. The toms in particular are really deep and delicious.
Although I love the "boomy" room sound on bass drums I understand your point. You often want the tight kick sound. The good things here is that you can just replace the kick drum with some other OWD "dry" kick. I've tried that with good results. I really like the flexibility of this thing.
If I remember correct kit 1 and 2 have big loose sound. Is that what you mean by boomy? The remind me of an old slingerland kit with a 26 inch BD. I love that sound, but it's not for every kind of music. But some of the OWD bass drums are nothing but tight! There is a lot of variety.
Well I might have misunderstood Autodafe in his post, but what I meant by boomy was the room sound in some of the medium and ambient kits versus the tighter sound in the dry versions. I agree with you, there's lots of variety and the ability to mix and match is great. And slightly OT (sorry about this), an old drum teacher of mine actually had a Slingerland Radio King set with a 26 kick which I tried. And YES I agree with you, that is a boomy sound. I think I was about 14 at the time and the difference in rebound of the beater from a normal 22 inch made it really hard to play. And also the huge kick drum made the toms to be almost out of my reach. :)

Yes! longer waits for the rest of the GB downloads :D

I think that was one of the reasons Squids was talking about in getting the multi track kits in DM2. It'll allow you to play with the mics to control the boom sound rather than just the one mic in the kick either the other mics (room, over, toms etc)

Each kick is going to have a different sound so take your pick from the 13 kits and use any of the kicks - they can be swapped out per kit. We'll show you how but it is actually as simple as clicking the "X" to unload the kick in the current kick you're in, then browsing on the left to your instruments folder and loading an individual kick instrument from one of the other OWD kits. Then save back the MULTI as your own new kit with the kick you like. OR you can EQ the kick and adjust any sort of low end you want or don't want.

The other thing to consider is your monitoring which of course can also be coloring the sound. What you're hearing may not be what others are hearing depending on the acoustics of your room, your speakers, your headphones... so it is subjective. The good thing is that these kits were mixed AT Ocean Way Recording where they make so many albums and they were mixed by two guys that between the two of them have done over 750 albums and won Grammys etc. So if any kick WAS boomy at least it was on purpose.

Kit 2 in particular has an orchestral bass drum I believe so that one is quirky for Hip Hop and other styles that call for a more drastic range of low to high for kick and snare.

Btw, Dr Dre's studio is housed AT Ocean Way Sherman Oaks (I used to live across th street when Michael Jackson used to record there). I think he likes it BOOMY! Here's a picture of Dre's mix room: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sonicreali ... 219304786/

Just a suggestion - If you want to lessen the boom, you can go to the main pulldown for the kitpiece, select envelope and adjust the decay (I think that's the one). Just reduce it until it sounds tight. I tried it and it sounds pretty realistic and natural.

Yes, or you can also go to the FX panel and use the EQ too. Many things you can do to tailor a sound to your liking or swap out the kit piece with another you prefer. Hybrid kits and tweakability are two things that make this really flexible and powerful to adapt to each person's tastes. You can also try just tuning up the pitch (tune knob) - nothing wrong with that. There are no rules except to use your ears.

this tutorial info...will it come by way of video tut's or a manual...this is my first time using kontakt for anything,so it would be good to know what's going on even if only from the IP perspective...

i'm really liking certain aspects of all the OWD kits but none have ticked all the boxes...kit 4 is too close 'cept for a very strange sounding open-hat...and kit 10 is also real close 'cept for the snare....

if we swap these over , do all the articulations and samples automatically transfer also ???

one other thing, squids....playing around with kit 10 earlier i noticed that it doesn't have the 'chokes-on-hat' (similar to the name of a southpark teacher) behaviour...and you know what....i think i prefer it  ...still not 100% sure but i'm getting used to substituting the hit following the open with the pedal and it sounds better....i could be asking you for the alt patches soon...we'll see

i'm really quite happy so far....and we're not even half way through yet :D

Actually, there is a flip side to every situation. As overwhelming as it is to have 800+ people (getting closer to 900 now btw) all getting a custom made product hot out of the oven we are getting feedback at lightspeed not just on issues found (most minor) but also on what people need help on to understand better, what could be explained well in the forthcoming manual and visual tutorials. So, while I agree it would be nice if we had a product that had all of that stuff (and the upcoming regular releases of Drum Masters 2 WILL have those things as normal products would), with the feedback here we can make the manuals and tutorials even better because they can have these FAQs in mind. I am taking notes on what video tutorials I want to do for you all... and honestly I am thinking about making them less flashy and straight to the point so the information is there and more tips and tricks than if we only did those WOOSH video productions... granted it might be more boring to watch but it isn't for entertainment. It's to learn.

So I am all for a video manual. I think that would be helpful since a lot of this is a audio/visual thing. Where's the knob? What does this sound like? How do I change THIS?

I am planning on doing a lot of that. This month we have NAMM smack in the middle. So there will be some but this is an ongoing thing - the features in this are the same as the whole Drum Masters line which includes the name drummer and producer titles as well (EpiK DrumS Ken Scott, Neil Peart etc)

+1 on quick and dirty video manual. I would much much much much much rather have something useful and functional to watch then nothing at all!

Also, if youa re jotting down tutorial topics, I'd love to see a vdrum tutorial especially on hihat set up. the midi learn makes setting up the kicks, snares, etc rather straight forward. It is the hihat that is the most complex.

+1 on the quick and dirty videos. If you try to keep 'em under 3 minutes I think they'll be more effective.

Great! Here's the place where people can ask for video tutorials on "how to" do whatever they want. We'll do a thorough video manual on functionality of the on screen controls. But this can be an on going tips and tricks video request thread and other users can feel free to show certain tips they know, post on youtube or wherever they want and perhaps that will be a really cool and fun community thing we can get going... also if anyone does any videos of them finger drumming or V-drumming/E-Drumming using our stuff let us know and we'll not only show it to everyone but give you some epointz or swag!

I'm trying to decide where to install the kit libraries. If I put it on my computer's internal drive and later want to move it over to an external hard drive, is that easy to do with Infinite Player for these kits?
