Same physical piano, just slightly different recording perspective.Doug B wrote:Could someone explain the difference between Sampletekk TBO and CG7?
(both specs and tone.)
Thanks
From the developer himself, "TBO was close, really close, using a Neumann SM2 stereo michrophone. 7CG was recorded using two vintage Neumann U89. These where placed over the soundboard, but further away then the SM2. It gave the piano another character both from being further away and also from the sound of the U89"

Ok, thanks-that makes sense. It's like some of their other pianos where they have a close miked and ambient version like White Grand and White Sister.tfishbein82 wrote:Same physical piano, just slightly different recording perspective.Doug B wrote:Could someone explain the difference between Sampletekk TBO and CG7?

I'm thinking that buying the close miked version would let me use my own reverbs to dial in the ambiance. (And thus produce more or less the same sound as the ambient version plus other ambiances ?)
Cheers

Not quite. The different perspective isn't so much close/ambient in the sense of dry/wet. They're both rather dry. They just have slightly different color to the sound. If I were you, I'd just listen to the demos of each, and buy the one that sounds a little better to you.Doug B wrote:Ok, thanks-that makes sense. True, but right now they have a 60% off for current customers. (loyalty discount)taotekid wrote:or another option would be to buy the smaller versions,
7CG Jr, & The Small One,
then upgrade the one you prefer,
like that, you could use both, layer them to your taste
So maybe I'll just get both!
Too many good choices, I'll tell ya!
