Hello

I found this site today, which hosts some nice VST editor of hardware gear (like the Novation Drumstation, some Juno synths or Yamaha FM synths !).
I think it might be of interest for soe people , ;)

The project is open source, which is great, but the GooleCode webpage is a total mess.
So here are my questions :
- Does anyone know how to contact the author ?
- The project is open source, which means that everyone can download teh code an dedit it, but how easy it is to do that ?
(My idea is to make a TX81Z editor (i tried the DX21 editor with my TX81z, and it works a little bit, but the parameters are not the same, so some editing is needing to make it match the right hardware parameters).

THanks in advance if anyone knows how to contact the developer !

http://code.google.com/p/ctrlr/source/browse/#svn/trunk
there you should be able to look at the source code
i guess the author is "kubiak.roman" .. look at the right-side of the "project-home" page for the Owners..
there seem to be downloads too..
It doesn't matter how it sounds..
..as long as it has BASS and it's LOUD!

Thank you, Antto.
It looks like chinese to me :help: :(

I have found the downloads and they work fine, but so far there is no controller for my hardware (even if the DX-21 one is rather close), so i'd need to edit it (or find someone skilled, and owning a TX81Z and interested into getting into such a thing)

I haven't found any e-mail to contact him.

as far as I can see, you have to use the Sysex reference of the TX81Z and, based on that, adapt this:

http://code.google.com/p/ctrlr/source/b ... n/DX21.xml

hope this helps and wish you good luck!

Thank you : i will see what i can do (but then how can it be compiled as a vst ?)

Post

Why try to re-write a DX-21 editor when there's already several good TX81Z editors out there like this one:

because this one is available as a vst plugin (and free)...
so i can use the vst in my sequencer to draw automation curves, and use my hardware controller's knobs to modify the fm parameters.

did a mixermap way back for the atari for my tx81z, and the dx21 and tx
are the same, bar the device id, i think. grab that page, and check the
manuals for both; seem to remember the device id is the second part of
the sysex string ( think 43 is 'yamaha'); then i guess you'd have to
compile the thing; maybe the guy will do it for tx81z people if you
ask him. certainly be a useful thing to have.

Thank you, very much.
... but : where to find it ?

Yep, but how must i do that ? With Synthedit, for instance ?

Yep, but i don't know how to contact him from the SrouceFOrge page (there is no "contact" or e-mail link :P

nope, grab the source, change some code, build, debug, rebuild, lather, rinse, repeat. someone call this "programming" :-)

from a quick look, it looks like some sort of Microsoft Visual Studio is needed on Windows and gcc/make on Linux.

it's not Sourceforge, it's Google Code. and my (educated) guess is that he should get mail addressed to kubiak.roman at gmail dot com.

somewhere or other ive obtained an earlier version of this project which loads the instrument definitions from an external XML file. unfortunately the developer seems not to be going this route anymore, and is only producing 'targetted' versions for specific gear... :(

How much of the source do I need to grab? I'm trying to edit the EX8000 to turn it into a DW8000: http://ctrlr.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/C ... %20EX8000/ (http://ctrlr.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/Ctrlrs/Korg%20-%20EX8000/) What do I even use to compile? WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME!?

Post

I recently solved my issue in a pretty elegant fashion: I'm using FL Studio's midi out and Bome's MIDI Translator. If anyone has any questions about the sysex messages needed for a Korg DW8000 and how to make them work in this context, send me an email at moyer dot daniel at gmail dot com. There is an ambiguous portion of the sysex message that's published elsewhere online that I was able to figure out only through trial and error.

What's wrong with the TX81Z editor that is on the ctrlr site that you linked to?

bump.
have been thinking about making a sysex control plugin too,
with synthedit. i heard about DH_SysXTool, and just found
the file on the usergroup posts. not sure how to use it yet
though. hopefully it will allow inputting of sysex message,
like in the old mixermaps.
