Dark Horse - soundset for Sylenth 1 - released

If I were a marketing genius I would probably put together a news flash saying something 'after hard work we have finally finished our long anticipated soundset Dark Horse. Now our singing gnomes in the happy unicorn garden of the Plughugger skyscraper are fine-tuning the patches into perfection'.
It's more like this: Dark Horse have been a total disaster in the making. Hard work is not the right word for it. Dark Horse have been a seriously hard birth. I don't know how many times I went through the patches moving half of them into the dreaded Good-But-Not-Spot-On folder. I'm not joking when I'm saying Dark Horse is destilled from over 400 sounds. Hand made, I might add.
But it all make some weird noir sense.
Dark Horse is a soundset aimed for producers who want to bring out the bad side of Sylenth 1. It's the anti-matter of europhoric and uplifting house. Dark Horse is dark, sinister and not friendly at all.
Dark Horse
128 patches for Sylenth 1
Style: dark techno
Price: 9.09 euro
To be released in the beginning of january.
Hear a short demo at:

I heard the demo of it today, sounds pretty good, not exactly the "usual" for Sylenth1, which can be a good thing.

... and that's the point of it. The whole soundset came about since I got so fed up with all people saying that 1) Sylenth is just for trance or 2) Sylenth sounds like a Virus. BS. Sylenth is Sylenth - a damn fine synthesizer.Examigan wrote:I heard the demo of it today, sounds pretty good, not exactly the "usual" for Sylenth1, which can be a good thing.
But at the end I realized it's not actually me trying to prove something, but rather a quite important element that many producers (including me) sometimes forget: interesting music is often built upon contrasts. Sugar with sugar with sugar is nice for the first bite or so - but if you mix honey with lemon with ginger - you get something totally different.
So yes - it is a good thing

Loving the demo, going to buy as soon as its ready. I bought Total Bass a while back, its great I must say. I very rarely buy presets for any of my synths but your sounds are great and very well priced. Thank you very much.

really excellent sound demos, i was impressed with this and your bass presets too. I never use 3rd party preset banks but you might just tempt me into a new habit.
Love the description too - and whatever you say, it seems like clever marketing to me! Far cleverer than the "slick" sounding stuff, at least for attracting my attention.

Gamma, Mr Ed and Chas - thanks. Going back to Sylenth is always such fun. I don't know what it is, but for me Sylenth is damn close to perfect, and I hope I can prove the sonic capabilities are larger than people might think. Personally - I'm sort of shocked about the ambiences you can make with S1. At its best it can - no joke - touch the stuff Spectrasonics make.
Good news - bad news. Got totally floored by a fistful of H1N1 during the holidays. All jolly good now, but Dark Horse won't be up until next week.

And how's that other Virus of yours coming along? Both of you feeling better, I hope.
Looking forward to the Dark Horse set and hope the Virus one sees the light of day sometime soon too. Nice blog.

Erhm. Apart for my insane lust for music toys I am also having a penchant for playing the electro engineer, where engineer is spelled I-am-an-idiot-and-have-no-clue-whatsoever-what-those-tiny-colourful-condensors-and-chips-are-doing-but-what-the-fck.zqxwcevr wrote:And how's that other Virus of yours coming along? Yes wicked sounds, just got it today only payed around for an hour or so going through some of the patches, but kept on having to stop to hit the record button!
I for one am very happy they are not your "usual" sounds!
