lusername wrote:Holy crap on a stick, these drums sound amazing right out of the box. Best drum samples I've ever heard. I could go on and on...

What is driving me nuts however is the hi-hat and snare cut-off behaviour. The semi-closed hat (G#) and the switch hat (A) should cut off the open hats. Also IMHO the snare hits (also the unsustained snare roll on G#) should cut off the sustained snare roll (F#).

Without these cut-offs it sounds unnatural and a bit offputting!
on page 188, Squids wrote:No worries. I caught that. We were just about to post the kits but we can add in a way to have it BOTH ways regarding the hi hat. Since apparently doing the new choking method doesn't work so well for V-Drums, the newly updated Kits 1 and 2 (yes we're back to doing that) plus all of the other kits (oh yeah, ready in a bit here get you're download engines started) will have NEW hi hats that work the PRE-EBOW way as it will now be called (just kidding). It should work fine the way it was originally intended... that's what happened when we changed it for iMap.

So it will be EBOW way for iMap and GM (closed chokes the opens) and SQUIDS way for the V-Drum mode (only FOOT chokes the opens). BUT the good news is if you wanted ANY of the formats to work the SQUIDS way (which I really recommend... just kidding - it is each person's preference) all you have to do is load in the V-Drum version of the hi hat and switch the map with one click to any of the other formats that drop down in the map page. Best of both worlds just for you guys! Now that I have a full team at my disposal you can see how fast we can do something like that. What a relief. I've never loved them more. I bought them all sushi today and donuts, cookies... what a team. I feel like James Stewart in It's a Wonderful Life. "Hello you crazy Building and Loans!"

I'll let you know when it's all ready.

Hey guys. Thanks. Glad you like them. I'm picky so I noticed some things the other guys did that don't cut it for me so I am tweaking those kit patches and I think I might incorporate a prelim update on some things into the final DM2 STm kit update that has all of the misc stuff and shared kits (the partial hybrid, partial unique samples one I put the "red x" by in the VITAL INFO thread). Little dynamic things but they make a difference when finger drumming - especially relative volumes of ghost notes and rolls. Also the roll on G# is supposed to be a short release and the one on F# is supposed to be long. That is my standard for iMap's ability to do both fluid snare rolls playing them back and forth and for using the G# as a "pick up" where when you let up the key and strike a center, edge or rim it will sound "properly cut off" as some have pointed out. Now I say the word "properly" because if it abruptly cut it off like a mute group closed hat would I think that would sound unnatural. So you have to play the cutting off of it yourself... however that G# IS supposed to stop when you let up the key (not abruptly but with a tiny fade out so it's smooth before your next hit - that little fade out is better sounding than it being shut off automatically with no trail).

Anyway, more on what YOU can do to set it up how you like it soon. Maybe this weekend. I'd rather hang with all of you and do tips n' tricks than do this NAMM show next week. But... gotta juggle here.

I'm loving the Kits but I would like to have only a few (that I absolutely love) installed as I am on a laptop and have limited disk space.
How does one uninstall the Kits that one is not likely to use? would deleting the respective folders cause any problems?

The funny thing is that I stayed up to 2:30 specifically to make sure the JB Tama Brush AND Stick and Gadd Snare made it in there. It was ready there just must be a last button to press that the web dev helping me must have conked out before pressing. We were working a late shift there. But no worries. That will be taken care of in a half hour or so when everyone is in the office.

I highly recommend an external portable hard drive.

:( I do have an external drive but I saw something on the manual which prescribed choosing the default My Documents folder to install the sounds or did I mistake that one?

Edit: Maybe I was mistaken...I dont see it in the manual now; but strange I remember something about vista users having to use My Documents folder It must be the excitement about getting those sounds I guess :)

I guess I have to reinstall.... :(

I also temporarily took out the Bonham kit. Settings were wrong and I just fixed that and for me it makes a world of difference. So I'll put it back up with the rest of the other kits. In my main misc kits zip I will have the updated patch for the Bonham kit in there anyway if you already downloaded it. Seamless update - you don't have to do anything (btw, that is how it NORMALLY is... just in the beginning of this we had an NI "goofy nkx/nkc file" mix up. Totally gave off the wrong impression of how it is to update things normally. Much much less complicated than that fiasco.

Ask Allen to get the full scoop on that. I will look into that as well. There was something with Vista... I think you have to turn off some protection thing built-in to the OS. But I have Vista on one of my machines and it references an external HD. That's the way to go on this for sure. Too many great sounds not to have on you wherever you go! ;)

installation manual said something like what you wrote above; i thought that related to Vista and Win7.
After I have installed everything in the default places, I moved all contents manually. All I needed to do after that was to specify the new place of the patch/sample folder when I loaded IP the next time.

As for the external drive.
I haven't examined in detail yet, but IP player samples are streamed from hard drive, right? (That's what "DFD" is all about.)
I sometimes feel USB connected drives too slow for DFD streaming. I highly recommend eSATA connection if available.

It's true, something about a special user path requirement was written in one of the installation documents for Vista and Win 7.

I am on a Vista machine, and I have all my samples and kits installed on an additional hard disc (my c: is just FULL). I tried installing the OWD kits from my external hard drive, but the installer didn't work. (No error message appeared, the installer just did NOTHING.) Anyway, I unzipped all files manually and copied it to the appropriate Infinite Player folders. That was easy and worked well.

The only drawback is that the kits don't appear in the Infinite player library window (does anyone know how I could get them in there?). They do show up in the Kontakt library, however, after a manual database update.

M :)

PS: Of course, it would be great to have an installer that works from different locations and that shows appropriate error messages. But I don't mind, as long as I can do most of it's jobs manually.

I think I just start to grasp how powerful IMAP can be, compared to GM which I used so far. So I'm really looking forward to the Squid MIDI files in phase 3. Anyway, two questions came up already - sorry if they sound dumb or have been answered before:

(1) Are there drum MIDI libraries out there that make particular use of the advanced IMAP features/sounds? (Not just GM conversions; I have many GM files, but my feeling is that special IMAP files could sound much more realistic.)

(2) As I have so many GM drum MIDI files collected during the years: Is it possible to tweak the Infinity Player settings that the additional IMAP sounds are played even if I just play GM MIDI files (e.g., through round robin or something similar)? I guess these kits are already sort of pre-programmed to do that, but perhaps there are additional possibilites?

Thanks for the inspiring drums, I learned so much new stuff already...

Squids-
The new formats are great and, IMHO, much easier to work with.

I know this has come up previously, but are there any current plans to put the OWD and/or DM kits in Drumcore format?

Currently, I've just got the OWD 10 kit in Drumcore and it is fantastic, but I'd like to get the rest of them in there too as Drumcore really is a great interface for this stuff.

Cheers
