im trying to find a resource to help me find what chords fit certain keys,
so say f minor, what chords would fit with this key ?
im having lessons but trying to do a little extra learning how to remix songs
staying in key them seeing what new chords i could add to change the feel of the song

any harmony and theory book will cover this
you take the scale you're in, you construct the chords based on intervals of thirds, major or minor depending how they fall out in the scale, for each note in the scale
standard three note chords work
to get a little jazzier you can construct 4 note chords by continuing with the next third interval
and it goes with variants from there, but that's really the basics
so figure out your scale, figure out your intervals (3rds) in that scale and proceeed
certain chords do tend to get more play than others as a way of harmonizing melody lines I and V show up in every genre after that it sort of depends.

Jeez, I never knew there are so many chords. Some of them have more notes than I have fingers on one hand; how are you supposed to play them?WOK wrote:http://www.apassion4jazz.net/keys.html

Just remember these handy phrases:robojam wrote:In reality though, any chord will fit any key if you really want it to - depends on whether you want to be conventional or not.
"I'm not a bad player, I'm experimenting with polytonality."
"It's a jazz chord."

in the Grateful Dawg movie Jerry Garcia calls those 'a couple of Chinese chords'In reality though, any chord will fit any key if you really want it to - depends on whether you want to be conventional or not.

reflecting, of course, on the different scale system and harmonies from a world music perspective

I'm sure it's less, but I still don't see what that has to do with someone asking a question about how many strings a guitar can have?generalstargazer wrote:many probably do but at KVR probably less than piano/keyboardrobojam wrote:I think many people here also play the guitar.generalstargazer wrote:sorry most people here play the keyboard/pianomr wrote:How many strings a guitar can have?

any chord would work ? i thought you had to follow the melody line, in this case a vocal, so you can play chords that dont sit well with the vocal and sound horribly out,
im trying to get a clear idea of where to start im told the song is in f minor so i thought maybe all chords that work from the scale of fminor would suit ?
mind you doesnt this just mean that possibly the song starts and ends in f minor and plenty of different chords could be used, i guess you need to harmonise with the vocal ?
