Also can it use any third party module made for Modular 3 or do they need up[dating?
It's entirely relative to how many modules and what type of modules are being used in the patch.

Greg
I know - that's why I asked in relation to comparable patches. Do Modular 3 patches open in 4? (or have any been reconstructed?)
I haven't had time to try each and every one, but a lot of the old patches open here. I never did get the Flexor modules though, so some I can't check. I have so many patches laying around from over the years that I've lost track of the ones that I never really used.

I'm more looking forward to all the new ModIV patches that come out of the current competition (which I think is now over).

All Mod III patches open in Mod IV - a few of the Mod III modules have been changed to the new Mod IV skin as they have had bugs fixed.

It is not out yet - I have heard the upgrade will be 98 Euro but it's not confirmed

That's my understanding.

My Scope 5 key arrived today (seems I qualify as the board was 4.5 pro) so I can start playing with Modular 3 8)

I'm now wondering if, because I get Modular 3 as part of the 'pro' scope package, I'll also qualify for the upgrade price of Modular 4 ? Good times if so :D

I was reading through the manual last night and definitely shouldn't have waited so long to get hold of one of these.

Is there much need for Flexor 3 with Modular 4, or is it becoming less important (with all the other free modules as well) ?

Because you have a 14 dsp card you are eligible for SDK also. Flexor 3 is a awesome expansion that's definitely worth getting, but also there is so much great plugins you'll have included with your card with 'Synths n Sampler/Mix n Master packs', modular 3, and other devices that you may be bussy for quite some time to come exploring what you have already from the start. Both Mod 4 and Flexor are great at expanding capability and won't overlap, just allow you to be more of a Mad-Scientist if that's your thing. I own flexor and will definitely be buying M4 soon as my money situation is better, looks amazing.

EDITED
T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

So what is this Scope business? An external DSP box/audio interface? I assume they have different audio interface options, but I assume they are all quite expensive? Can this Scope stuff be used without using their audio interfaces? Do they have any USB/Firewire cards for running it?

No.

Dedicated DSP cards and new external Xite-1 rack unit that runs via PCI-e (for more reliable bandwidth).

You can run Scope plugins inside your host.

More than just synths, you also get mixers, effects, flexible routing, etc. etc.

There are guys building new presets still using the Flexor modules (and other 3rd party modules as well).

SDK for the Xite is pending release sometime soon. In the meantime it's available for the Scope Pro/14 DSP card. (at least that's my understanding).

This is just

:D

(Okay, so they could improve the UI a bit by maybe adding right-click functionality, and scrollwheel to the preset lists, etc. Maybe even drag/drop to connections)

Once I'd found that I needed MIDI-OX to let my USB MIDI keyboard control Scope directly if I wasn't using a sequencer, I was away :)

I shall sacrifice some small animals to the gods of 64bit drivers, and just dual-boot in the meantime.

That sounds right.

From what I've heard, the Flexor modules have a distinct character of their own, they seem sharper, clearer, and less "vintage" sounding than the Soniccore modules. That's just the impression of a listener, though, I'm curious as to what the actual users have to say about that.

You can setup autoroute in the presets - for MIDI or audio - but it's semi-random depending on what modules you have loaded. If there is a mixer present, then it will usually route to the mixer.

Connect one 'wire' between modules and hold 'n' key to zip remaining connections/wires into the next neighboring port.

There are already right-click menu features, so not sure what you're looking for there.

Yes, I've used MIDI-OX for getting my padKontrol to go 'around' Scope into Samplitude, so there's no issue there for going direct into Scope. Not sure if/when, or what priority there is for adding a USB port to Scope. I consider this a minor issue.

I own Flexor 3 and in shor i would describe it as "experimental" platform. Plenty of possibility there. Soundscapes, drones, leads, basses, everything is indeed sounding different(not better or worse) compared to "stock" modular III. Totally worth the price!

I think it was more a case of 'not many' menus, and I'd find myself thinking a right-click should do something (I'd try to right-click a selected wire, or a port, and get nothing). I imagine that once I've used it for more than an hour or so, I don't even notice.

Oh, absolutely. The only 'request' I have at the moment is 64bit drivers (and I know they're 'soon' :D).

I can't wait for the OSX release so that I can move everything to my Mac and use my PC solely for Emulator X3 and Sound Forge.

Well, I'm assuming they are focused on getting 64-bit, etc. done rather than spend time and money flying to California to just sit in a booth at NAMM and talk to one person after another that has never even heard of Scope :)
