Is 2C's Aether REALLY worth it? (the answer is: yes, certainly)

(the source sound is intentionally as raw and unpolished as possible. It comes from Rapture with a preset that is simply playing a raw waveform with a simple amp envelope and nothing else--no filter, nothing. Aether is the only thing added in the wet example. You can imagine what things sound like when you feed in a properly designed synth patch, or a real recording...)

Thanks for the feedback regarding manuals. It's very useful.

Just to add to this question, if you don't mind Quantize, will all current customers receive an email notification of this update? Thanks.

I tried to replicate this with Aether 1.0.1 and I couldn't get anywhere near (obviously :) )
It sounds like there are envelopes (or slow LFOs) on every parameter - on the eq, the reflection gain controls, and (more interestingly) on the modulations that are occuring.

The modulations in particular sound like a really natural (but varied) chorus.

I am hearing something like what I imagine happens to sound in a cathedral or a cave where initially the bulk of the sound reflects off big things and gradually as the sound moves through the space it reflects off smaller and smaller things (no idea if this is how it works but its what this makes me think of).

It certainly suggests a lot of changes under the Aether hood.

The samples sound great Andrew: but you have to stop teasing us! You do realize what happens if you get teased for too long, right? :ud:

Yep, sounds stunning, truly phantastic! Seems the wait was worth it. :tu:

In my opinion I dont think that Aether is the King of Reverb, I still think that nothing beats Audio-ease's Altiverb. They are different in what they can do, but ALtiverb to me has to be the realest sounding Re-verb I have ever heard. The only bad thing about Altiverb is the price tag at $565 as well as not being able to put it on every application. It is top notch and without a shadow of a doubt the best sounding reverb in the game. It just sounds real but it hogs alot of cpu.

Aether is very good, but for live halls, nothing beats the reigning king in Altiverb.

Not a fan of convolution reverbs. They're just too static.

I'll take Aether or ArtsAcoustic over any impulses, any time.

+1 Same here. Convolution is good when I use it in a post-production situation(recreating real rooms etc). But in music, I'm not a big fan either. When I do use convolution I use SIR2 mostly with some great IR impulses.

Aether is now officialy my goto reverb, and CSR have a special mention too.

I have lots of other that I also like, I am a big fan of reverbs in general.

OK now, when is 1.5 out?

Well they don't just pluck people off of the street and let them fly the space shuttle do they !! ( well they do ; but they give'm a manual first !! )

Lameo attempts at humor aside , please don't be skimping on the index!!

I think a great manual can actually get some free pub sometimes ;;... I've heard the mastering manual that Izotope made available with Ozone mentioned dozens of times when people asked for mastering tips ; . then they go over to the web site and maybe buy Ozone ?????

Thanks for a great reverb!! ( there is no such thing a to many great reverbs !!!! :P )
Financial solvency and KVR Mix as well as oil and water.

I just wanted to drop in and say that I have had a chance to demo Aether and I think that it is a great product. It is, however, largely esoteric. I am not sure what each parameter actually does. For instance, the ER Size parameter. Is that in feet, units, time, some kind of percentage, etc? I suppose a more detailed manual would help people dial things in.

You can get any reverb sound you want from this plugin. I just am finding myself lost a bit. I am spending a lot of time trying to dial in a certain sound I have in my head. See, I think in real world terms. In my mind I picture a cavernous 50 feet by 80 feet scoring stage with a 30 foot ceiling height. Wood paneled, all the trimmings etc. If I only knew how to translate that into the parameters you guys use in the program I could quickly build this acoustic space in virtual space. Would that be size 80, width 50? I know I want a 2.6 second reverb tail on the ER...

I suppose what I am trying to say here is that if you made it more accessible to people who aren't programmers or technicians, it could be a lot better for us artistic, visual types. :)

P.S.: My first post. Hope I made sense.

Hm... to me your approach is indeed more "technical" than using an artistic approach of just listening. :) Anyway, very welcome. KVR is a nice, warm and fuzzy forum. :hihi:
