OK - thought it was just me losing my "ear"... very, very subtle to say the least - will test again tonight.
Now the proud owner of an avid 11 Rack, Running Pro Tools 10.3.3 - for me it's heaven!

I can hear a difference when I really push things, like have the drive way up along with the clip setting low and slam it with some really loud resonance filter sweeps or something. Definitely gives it a nice character in that situation, but on most settings and material I cant really hear what its doing

I was hoping someone would comment here and tell me what I should be looking for in terms of sonic difference...but it looks like you guys are hearing exactly what I am: nothing. I really want to like it though, it looks cool!

It's mostly a subtle effect but I found that by lowering the clip threshold and turning up the warmth and brightness knobs, and then playing around with the balance between the three bands, I was able to get a subtle but noticeable warming effect on a number of sources.

You can also get a DISTORDED sound if you wish :
- warmth at 100%
- drive around 0 or no more than +6
- makeup 100%
- and lower the clip knob
Using the dry/wet knob to taste, it makes great tones IMHO.
Also make sure that you have a "hot" input level before hitting the plugin. I usually start with a signal that peaks at -4dBFS.

its one where you listen to how it affects the mix and where things sit i think
- like put it on vocals/guitar , listen to how they smooth into the mix a bit more, also it is good to focus on other sounds in the mix and how they are affected by the 'preamp' track. Its a cool trick- change settings on one track but focus not on that actual track but the whole mix or other sounds, you can really hear these other sounds having their 'perspective' changed somehow.
anyway, yes, its pretty subtle mostly.

I think you have to realize what Preamp aims to achieve: emulating the effect of running a signal through analogue gear. Period. It is decidedly NOT an overdrive or distortion box!
You're not going a big difference in sound when you route an audio signal through a hardware console or record it to tape, but it will add a little something--call it warmth, or character, or mojo--to the signal. The same with Preamp: there won't be a big difference (and there shdn't be) but depending on the settings you can get different kinds of subtle analogue character out of it.
Only once you start driving it hard, or for extreme settings, does it add real audible distortion to the signal--again just like, for example, a console channel. But again: it is not intended to squash everything! Where it excels is subtle character changes that may not be very apparent unless you listen closely on decent monitors but that do add some definite warmth/character/mojo to the overall mix.
Take care,

And there you go! Admittedly in German only but Google translate does a decent job here--feel free to ask for a translation of anything that still sounds like Klingon to you. (A couple of magazine reviews are coming up as well.)Igro wrote:Someone can review this thing already?

Winblows live gave this in the translation ;
"Appropriate drive start the tubes to consumed and deliver a small fireplace room effect on the monitor."
So tell me true : Is this little gem going to save me $$$ on my home heating bill ????

Believe it or not, that translation (though a bit awkward where grammar is concerned) is pretty much accurate really. Errr... you didn't really think the tubes at the top of the GUI are visual entertainment only, did you? 112dB for a better environment--now 100% climate neutral!contrary wrote:So tell me true : Is this little gem going to save me $$$ on my home heating bill ????"Appropriate drive start the tubes to consumed and deliver a small fireplace room effect on the monitor."

OK
I did not try the translator yet but at the end of the article there's a "FAZIT" which sounds to me (no pun intended) like CAVEAT.
Should I worry ?

Seriously:
J. , if I were you, I would translate it to proper English ASAP
(and would make other samples, NOT taking the plug to extremes, and making it some sort of an SFX unit - unless,
of course, that is what you want)
