Hmmph. I have 50GB/month @ AUD $80, no mucking about with peak and off-peak periods. Static IP address and all, so it would probably be cheaper on some home plan rather than a SOHO plan.mindshift wrote:Wow. That's a rip off! I'm in Aus & I have 20GB/peak + 40/off peak for about the same price, but still end up getting capped (slowed down) all too easily.....Sooo jealous of Americans & whatnot with their unlimited downloads:(John-E34 wrote:I pay AUS $80 per month for 10Gb/peak + 15Gb/off peak...
I have to watch the size of everything I download...
But I am over 3km from my exchange, so the ADSL2+ speed is relatively slow, at a bit over 6Mb/s (to answer Peter's original question).

That's a bummer Dave. I just thought I'd bump this post and give everyone the opportunity to check their connection speed rather than just go by what their ISP says.Dave Bourke wrote:Just tested mine using Speedtest.net. I get 2.61 Mb/s which is kerrrrap. It's supposed to be 10 Mb/s. At least that's what I'm paying for.![]()
Kind regards.

But dont run ONE test and think thats it. Of course there are times where the speed isnt as advertized. Try at different days and differet times of the day, use different servers, the nearest server might be a busy server and just not fast. The nearest server for me (300 km) wasn only half as fast as a 1000 km away server. Moreover, the test is quite short, so even small problems can show a slow rate.
I usually download large files a few times a month, and I see a rate at the end of the download in my ftp program, thats where I get my values from (which is something between 12 and 32 MBits, Germany, on a TV line

Thanks a lot for all votes, it seems there are actually more people on fast lines as I was afraid of (some LinPlug products come with so large libs that it is an issue for some people.)
