Is there a possibility of you releasing some of your Guitar Rig patches for free, or with the final library?

Post

Man, demos sound good!

Can't wait for this to be released -- a total no-brainer for 49 bucks!

Post

some seriously impressive demos there. I am pretty excited about this one (I scooped your other libs at Xmas time so I'm sure of the quality already)!
Does it have anything in the way of hammer-on\pull-off articulations? Gotta be able to duplicate the riff in the middle of Angel of Death to be a true metal lib haha.

Post

Thanks for the kind words, all! I can't tell you how excited we are for this. Even if you compare to libraries like Electri6ity or Prominy, it's so incredibly easy to get an even more realistic, organic and huge sound from Shreddage.

Yes, we may very well do that, but we're also strongly considering reamping the entire library and having that as an optional download.

Chester: At the moment we don't have hammer-ons/pull-offs, though we do have whole-note slides up to and down from notes. They're just not really integrated for legato playing like other libraries. Integrating that kind of legato playing is pretty tricky and requires you to have a whole dedicated script for it. Our goal with this was to avoid the CPU overhead and frustration of learning a new script for every guitar library.

That being said, if this does well I think we'll do an expansion that covers even more techniques.

Hi Zircon,

sorry, but I really find these kind of comments a little bit unfair. How can you compare two guitars which both haven't be released yet and make a statement like "Even if you compare to libraries like Electri6ity [..], it's so incredibly easy to get an even more realistic, organic and huge sound from Shreddage".

You can't really compare those guitars. Shreddage has a fixed genre in mind, while Electri6ity can be used for all kind of genres. Shreddage is a rhythm library, Electri6ity can do both: rhythm and solo (and fluid legato btw. since it includes four types of different hammer ons and pull offs plus 1 and 2 fret slide plus slides from each fret to each other fret. It's also possible to slide chords with Electri6ity). Electri6ity offers a wide range of guitars, Shreddage uses a selected guitar which matches exactly the genre it is made for (and in this genre it definitely sounds good).

Please think about such things before talking about (and comparing) products, which haven't even been released yet.

Best,
Benjamin

Yes, you're right that the scope of our libraries are very different. I would never claim that Shreddage is anything except a rhythm library. If anyone were to want full chord strumming, lead playing and complex scripting for legato, fretting etc., I would not recommend our library. I was very impressed in fact at the realism of Electri6ity for lead playing!

But as you said, we recorded for a specific purpose (rhythm) and a specific sound (rock and especially metal) so I don't think it is unreasonable to say that it is easier to accomplish that exact sound than with a library which can do a wide variety of sounds and playing styles. Much like how you might be able to get Vienna Symphonic Library to sound as "Hollywood" as EWQLSO, but it's hard to dispute that EWQLSO has that sound right out of the box.

That's a reasonable answer. And I agree. :)

But I'm still going to take your comment above as a challenge and will do a Metal demo as soon as Electri6ity is finished (the demos which are available now, are all WIP demos - they don't demonstrate the final product yet!) 8)

Thanks for your answer!

An update: We're close to done with the library and will definitely have a video or two showing off how easy it is to use. We're also leaning toward including a set of amped samples as well, though we'll be including amp sim presets too.

2 questions

A) Will it be available as a download

B) What is the size of this library

Sounds pretty good!

I'm very impressed with the demos so far! I'm also very happy that you decided not to amp the library, which makes it so much more versatile.

I have a question, though. I love doubling the guitars and pan them hard left and right. Are you going to include "B" patches, that simply shift the RR sequence by one hit? This way, there'll be no cancellation going on when doubling, while no additional RAM will be used (same sample set). That would be the icing on the cake for me :-)

Jason: Yes, it will be available as a digital download. I'm not sure what the final compressed size will be, but probably around 400-500mb each for clean + amped.

Zeitlos: Absolutely! Not only are there "double tracked" patches that are shifted just like that, there are double tracked multis with the Kontakt outputs already set up (so you can use two different amps), AND a "Timing" knob on every single patch that allows you to add variable amounts of timing randomness for a truly realistic sound. We're even thinking about adding quad tracking too... it's sounding pretty good :)

Quad tracking...That would be awesome :D

Just a quick update; the release date is finalized for February 14th, so if you happen to be single you'll have something else to love :-)

Updates on features/info:

* We are definitely including presets for Guitar Rig 4, Overloud TH1, StudioDevil and Amplitube 2. There will even be a couple cab impulses too.

* In the end we decided not to do an amped version. While we did really want to, test after test showed that it just didn't sound as good as the DI version. Not only that but it's just much more satisfying to run it through a nice amp sim and tweak the tone for each individual song!

* Quad tracking is still in the works, though I can't promise it will be included in the release version. It's definitely tricky to do and we really WANT to include it, but we don't want to rush it either. Of course if it doesn't make release, it would be a free patch later.

* The final size compressed is only about 350mb - an easy download. The library itself is actually a little over a gigabyte, of course, but the compression is just awesome.

Lastly, here's another demo. Nothing too complicated, just an example of Shreddage used in the context of a heroic trailer-style cue.

The funny thing is, the Shreddage part only took about 5 seconds to play in (just one pass, left and right hand.) It really sounds good with basically no special editing needed. Plus, we have "Quick Play" multis that set up pretty much everything you would need. So, the orchestra stuff was about 50x harder :)
