What will the iPad do for musicians?

Is the iPad worth looking into for musicians or is it just a toy for the Starbucks set?
Could it run logic or live as well as a Mac Book?

I dont like it. It doesn't fit in a pocket. It doesn't have a keyboard. You must look down at it. Literally down. Maybe you can recycle your marketing material stand to make it sit upright.

This will be big - use it as a remote controller like a cheap version of the Lemur - connect via Bluetooth?
Expect apps for this - I don't think Live etc. will run on it as it use the iPhone OS

Can't you look at it horizontally? I was thinking you could put it on a music stand and read notation or lead sheets from it as you play your instrument (all while recording).camsr wrote:I dont like it. It doesn't fit in a pocket. I suppose you can control software on another computer via OSC but that software really has to be sympathetic to touchscreen. Usine mebbe? But on the whole it's just another toy for people who like participating in pissing competitions.
Perhaps when software catches up with the tech we'll get a slew of worthwhile apps, but seeing as how certain vendors haven't even implemented multicore and 64bit yet I'm not holding my breath. If it's not being used as a controller but as a dedicated DAW I wonder what the onboard sound and proccessing power are like (I haven't been following the gossip).

I don't know about musicians but I'm gonna play with Jasuto and OSCulator. It looks like fun to me.

I just checked out Engadget and the iPad looks... pedestrian. Mediocre. Middle of the road. This is not the iPhone of tablets, it's just another tablet. A shame, because if it was something spectacular (as all the hype suggested) it'd be the first Apple product I'd buy. Oh well, still a Windows person.

Yeap, nothing new.
But I like the idea of that stuff http://www.nouvo.ch/2010/01/apple-la-tablette-de-choc at the end around 2:30 , controlling a mixer, plug, .. with your finger without touching anything, looks pretty cool, especially that I'm already surrounded by too much gear.

Well, I suppose it could run Voice Band... ha ha...Muzik 4 Machines wrote:nothing, it runs iphone OS and doesnt have an intel chip, so no live, logic, mainstage, modul8, final cut or any usefull app
maybe someone will do a lemur and monome emulator for it, seeing the samll one is like 1/5 of a lemur price, but no connectivity makes it a waste of money me thinks

Wow, so it's basically a freakishly gigantic iPhone? I thought it was going to be a legitimate computer with a multi-touch monitor... Not that I would have considered buying one anyway, but what a stupid product. Then again, we're talking about Apple, so it will probably sell by the bajillions.
