Wow, the usual recourse. You don't think it's great, so you're jealous. It's kindergarten all over again. And a pretty good reason to leave this thread and allow the fanbois to stay alone and coddle each other.

Have fun guys and don't forget to use protection.

Petty little people have a natural tendency to hate just about any product they can't afford.

Especially if it's destined to be ever so popular with rich kids, cult members, people with decent jobs, etc.

Same as Scientology then. You can bet Mr. Cruise has an ipod and Mac. Symbols of the capitalist society we live in and reason that things have gone wrong. The same people who will preach "Green" while buying into power guzzling tech.

Make no mistake, this thing will be huge, but not for it's intended use.

This gets a major FAIL for use for books and subscriptions. For the same reason people hate reading on laptops and desktop computers, they will hate reading on the iPad. There is good reason why other companies (Amazon's Kindle, Sony's e-reader and Barne's & Noble's Nook) use "digital ink" for their products despite the the availability of color led screens (or oled screens) and that's because it doesn't cause eye fatigue.

Still, there are many who don't understand why digital ink is preferred for reading and will buy it for ebooks and subscriptions, but thankfully the iPad isn't limited to just reading books.

Expect to see this in the hands of teens and pre-teens for use as a portable video game device. I know of many 3 year olds now using the iPod touch for games and movies... they can graduate to the iPad as they get older.

This is the perfect travel companion. The ability to watch movies, listening to music or even catch up on emails makes this a must buy for many people on the go. The larger screen makes all this much easier

As for the original question... This will be one sick ass midi controller. Now we just have to wait for new programs to be written that take advantage of the additional space provided by the larger iPad.

Expect to see Lemur prices drop over the next two years.

Yes there are many other devices that have done similar things, but IMHO none of them got it right, but I do think this will be a major success.

We got an Apple TV for a wedding present (man my wife has kick ass friends!) and at fist I thought, "Ah, that'll sit and collect dust." We've got so much in the way of media devices, laptops, computers, DVRs, cable on-demand channels. What could this thing do that I'd need?"

I was wrong. We use it all the time. First thing it did was back up all my music, video and photos from my main computer. Easily and seamlessly. Now I use it all the time as a jukebox that'll put on a high def screen saver of our images at the same time. It's doesn't sound cool but it's super nice and I can do special playlists and set them to photo albums for entertaining. Instead of using Comcast's horrible On-Demand I'll always try renting from Apple first as the quality is better and the service more easy to use. I can also use it to access stuff that's on my wife's desktop and laptop. I know, it's not earth shattering, but it just works in a kind of way that requires little thought and just works.

It doesn't matter though - every tech blog out there will proclaim that Apple "discovered" the tablet PC.
And rightly so, for all that matters.
I like a lot of what apple does with devices like this even though i don't see me buying anything from them.
But when they turn things i like into a more mainstream success thats nice for me to. If they do it better then that will trickle down to other companies and even if they just market it better and are more successful it helps to bring prices down to a certain point.

So good luck to them with the iPad and i look forward to eventually buying something better for less money.

Nice edit there.

Man, its just a toy. If you think any device will make you a better musician, dream on. If you cant make seriously good music on what you have now - give up.

Right now I cant see the use for me, honestly. Perhaps if I didnt have the iPod touch I would re-consider, but the nice thing about the touch is it does fit in my pocket. I would expect the iPad to be able to do a few more things than the iPod touch, but not significantly more to warrant me running out and buying it.

I do think it will sell - and it will be a hot item on the market.

I would consider purchasing future versions if they add in 3G support, a longer battery life, and the digital ink option to switch to that format to read. In addition, I'd like to see a faster processor, and also where the market for this is going to go.

In Summary: I'll let other people "Blaze the trail" to see if its worth my money. Right now I have plenty of other things to spend my funds on that will have, what I anticipate to be, a greater impact on my life. It also fits, right now, into the "Nice to have" category, as opposed to the "Need to have"

If they're in kindergarten, then you must be in first grade? Is this what you're saying?

I'm no fan of Apple or any company for that matter. I am a fan of this direction of technology and what it's doing for the development of products by competing companies.

I certainly am not upset at the many people that buy apple products for the pure point of vanity, since it's those sales numbers that are pushing the envelope in developing aesthetic looking products that take advantage of technology which should have been exploited 10-15 years ago.

This is a very good thing that Apple has released this. It steps up the game for everyone else to compete with their sales numbers. The truth is that no one should have been surprised to see an oversized iPod Touch. They should have been expecting it, but now we must wait for other companies to release their new versions which I hope will provide some decent competition.

I don't understand one thing... why the hell are they marketing this as an ebook reader too? I thought those special screens on ebook readers were there for a specific reason, like, that you can actually READ those for longer periods of time? I can't imagine reading books on a standard screen...
