I don't understand that either, except that people that don't read will buy it because they didn't understand why the e-book readers were only in black.

There's a huge market for them, but I agree 100% that this is not something you can read for long periods of time.

There are already a few wireless MIDI apps. The keyboard could be expanded to make better use of the larger screen. The X-Y controller could be more useful with multi-touch features.

I bought 8bitone awhile ago. I like it, but find navigating on the small screen difficult. If iPhone and iTouch apps work on the iPad, some should be easier to use.

first grade popularity contest in here. i dont associate with apple, yet i use an iphone because its a good product. ipad is a piece of shit marketed under disguise as being innovative. its just a bigger ipod to do more multitouch shit on, that you cannot multitouch while holding because its too f**king big. but that doesnt matter i do like my iphone its just slow as hell.

pretty much sums it up for me - I suppose you could use the stand dock thing to keep it uo and then use it as a multitouch controller but something says the latency and general hassle of getting things done over wireless will rather outweigh any advantage it has over a well specced midi remote

Youll have to buy one to find out if its fast enough for that. As it dosnt use a standard X86 CPU, youll have to guess that the 1GHZ processor wont be up to much. Below current Netbook speed (1.6Ghz dual core) Im guessing.

But TouchOSC and some tasty synths already run on iPhone so its good enough for me. I understand some folks wanted a proper 'puter but run what can already run on iPhone with more real estate is good enough here.

Now - just have to wait to pick up a used one

Checking via Google suggests the CPU specs of the Jazzmutant Lemur are not readily available. Does anyone know different?

The CPU in the iPad might be relatively slow compared to netbooks, laptops and desktops, but it's likely sufficient for GUI manipulation and sending OSC data. A wired network connection would be nice, but OSC over wifi as been demonstrated to work well with the iPhone / iPod touch so no reason to suspect otherwise here.

Im sure the ipad can be used as a controller. As a synth, less so. Advantages over the Korg Kaoss range - even less so.

Well you have to think - the cpu is gonna be eaten into by the OS, WiFi and the app... but all the template design is done (TouchOSC this is BTW) on your main machine and all the app is really doing is communication and graphics.

Or am I missing the point?

Well, the point is - Korg already have it covered at less cost. Yes you can buy an ipad and wait until audio apps are developed for it (or buy your iphone apps again) but it seems the wrong way of doing things. Why not buy the right tool for the job? I did the same with my Asus Netbook, great toy but thats about all it is. This is Apples netbook, Im sure history will repeat itself and it will sell well and finally end up like most other netbooks, minimal use except net browsing.

Agree its a toy (but I LOVE toys!), too much Apple enthusiasm and I would NOT want to read a book on one as it stands (with screen glare/eye fatigue).

Im interested to see where the Monome and OSC community runs with it and as others have mentioned - what other manufacturers do next - particularly what JazzMutant do (prolly nothing tho).

Edit - I think it will sell shitloads too tho, which hopefully means us mortals could eventually pick up a used one as a controller!
