What would the equivalent Korg product be? Aren't the Kaoss Pad and Kaosscillator much smaller, non multi-touch, and lacking a LCD display?

Regarding the use as a music controller, the processor should be more than enough. The only thing that I see could restrict the range of applications is the latency and frequency rate of the touch technology involved.

I certainly see it as a much better music tool than the iPhone. But I'm hesitant to believe it will become a serious musical instrument, simply because it isn't designed with that in mind.

Multi touch is the new bullshit buzzword. Korg has 3 rotary controls and pads so you can "multi turn" as well as touching. Its small because its the size of your hands, unless you have huge hands it ideal. It has built in USB and is a controller ready to go when you unpack it. I wouldnt use any wireless tech to connect a controller to. Just adding yet more complications. Apples and oranges (no pun intended). WHy the need to make something expensive do what its not supposed to and can be done cheaper and better by existing equipment? You might as well use your cars GPS as a midi controller

Absolutely. I'm not saying this is better than Korg's stuff, just not comparable.

I guess its good that there's the Apple product/Apple fan/Apple hater threads here so people on all sides can unleash their pent-up frustrations and their seething inner anger... I read an anti Apple post, and thought "you jerk", I read a pro Apple post and thought "you jerk"... There's reasonable argument and opinion on both sides too, but people want to have their little wars. Little fights, lobbing vitriol around. Actually, I think if it wasn't for these threads we'd see more violent crime on the streets.

So, as you were gentlemen. :P

I thought it was a regular Apple computer with a novel interface which would have been exciting news, but apparently it's no such thing.

I won't be losing sleep over this and get a new Mac Mini this year like a good boy. :D

Are we now gonna see clothing manufacturers design big frickin' pockets on pants 'n' stuff to put these FannyPad things into. Some fool's gonna do it somewhere ya just know it. :P
Just make the music that you enjoy (failing that go for a walk, watch some porn, have a fight with a random bloke until something else happens).

I wonder if there will be a tracker app for it, or is that not trendy enough for the latte sippers?

Firt let me say that I am a developer and I prefer Windows over OS X, but I like very much
iPad proposal. True that it would not be as good as Kindle & friends for long reading
but it fits the newspapers and magazines side that needs colors!

Moreover imagine when you buy a magazine with a DVD,
maybe traveling and you read it and wait to get
home to watch the videos featured on the DVD,
carrying the iPad is not much more that carrying
two magazines and you have the videos on page plus the "bonus" of wifi and writing.
Then if the magazines is about iPad iPhone apps you can try them while you read.

Writers and coders on the move could found iPad more comfortable than a notebook,
povinding that the keyboard is good enough.

Honestly I don't like the musical apps on iPhone so far, mostly toys,
but on iPad, as said before here, that could be rather different,
in my view it would be great if Apple could incorporate the technology
to use the screen as speaker, so to have a bigger sound letterally under you fingers.
Now that would make for intersting new musical instruments,
simply as touch>>>play>>feel the sound.
Beside the controller thing as mentioned by you.

What I do not like is
1) that it's made in China taking advantage of the labour ruled by a goverment otherwise
criticised for Tibet, human rights, violence, extreme pollution, etc..
But Apple investors wanna be rich first of all, or just slghtly later they said
that they suppor innovations.
2) that the "trendy" and fashion aspects tend to rule over the other things
especially in Italy "fashion land",
they will put this tool ad about 600 euros minimun (840.9 U.S. dollars)
for the cheaper models.
3) Other things not worth to say here.

u need to power down at least once a week or evertime you install a new app to keep your iphone at full speed :D

Could it run logic or live as well as a Mac Book?
The Ipad will be huge. There will be many musical control apps designed for it as well as similar current Iphone apps.remember it has a accelerometer which the lemur kaoss pad etc don't.newspapers are dying and Jobs and Murdoch know this so subscription press is coming.Yes it is a large size Ipod touch but with the increased size comes increased functionality .No its not a full blown mac so Live logic etc wont run om it.Wireless light video and sound control with a touch interface are some of the uses we will see in the music world. Apple leads others follow they invented the GUI and mouse , Ipod :D Once upon a time electronic music was being accused of being over produced ,its now over controlled and if any controller Ipad or not doesn't make my music better i will be throwing it at the piano and recording the sound it makes. :hihi:

You should read that (unless you were kiding) :

At first i was disapointed with the IPad announce... I expected a real powerfull CPU.
But for $499 i think it can be really usefull... but does not replace any PC/MAC.

A touchOSC in 1024x768 with total control of <put you daw here> would make me buy one the following minute.

I think you're right.
As a controller the iphone is a bit too small, and the ipad is a bit too big, but maybe some developpers will have nice ideas...
