I'm doing my best to keep the gui I'm working on very tidy and lacking eye candy, being what I hope will be a straight forward get to work gui.

The first bunch look like some standard SynthEdit GUIs, and the one in the second post looks like a fake plastic design.

Don't take this as an attack, it's just my view.

Hi, when seen from a distance of about 6 feet, I like a gui that draws me in, with
eyecandy that serves a purpose. Mikes version has subtle gradients surrounding some
elements, and also the small glassy swirl elements as borders, neither in competition
with functionality. Your pg_35 gui is also a good example, spacing and lighting are good from a distance, and invite a closer look, and would not tire the eyes in a long session.

Your current supercore pic has a dark gradient by a black border surrounding white text fields, meaning the eyes are constantly processing darkbright darkbright, and in the first area of use, choosing sounds and shaping them. This would not bode well for the long sessions this instrument will likely often be used in. I realize this may not be considered by young people/eyes, but the clock is ticking, even for them

Cheers :)

I really, really like what Hills is doing with the brownish skin. Very easy on the eyes, a nice color scheme (only variations on 1 color, a trick only skilled designers seem to know), nothing that doesn't belong there or sticks out as annoying.

I think the trick in making a good skin, is to try and make one that "isn't there". Use only what's nescessary, and don't try to impress people with your photoshop skills. Bevel and emboss is a way way overused feature, and if you use it, try doing one which is only 1px thick, 50% opacity. You'll be surprised at the results of using this feature in moderation.

I hang wallcover by trade so I judge everything from 6ft away. I'll consider what you've said when I get back to work on it.

The Hlis93 skin is shaping up to be a joy to look at and work with, compliments!

Since he really is trying to make ammends, I am going to work with him ONE LAST TIME with his white photo-real skin.

He really does seem genuine ad we may have that skin wrapped up soon. So, this skin will be included as well - maybe . . .

I hope it happens.

Wow. Now here's a stance I completely disagree with. :o

Not only has Scott admitted to using warez, he is also quite unapologetic about it too. But lets just sweep that under the rug shall we, because "he does nice work."

Also, as long as it's not your product he's warezing it doesn't matter right? But he is free to warez everyone else's? :? :help:

Personally I think it's a bad business move, choosing to align yourself with him. But we'll see if the other potential customers feel the same way when it comes time for them to possibly part with their money.

It will not grace SuperCore. It's over and he's now a figment of my imagination.

Well, I guess you have to get what you paid for.

Mike
 right, he's using legit photoshop. :tu:

just like he is using legit 3D studio. :hihi:

you can't possibly be that gullible.

this is a sad and pitiful display. it's really getting silly.

KK why don't you stop airing your dirty laundry now?

everyone knows what's up, and you should take this stuff to *PM* edit *email* (since scott is now banned).

you don't have to justify any of us what you decided to do. this could turn into a PR nightmare for your new company though if it gets out of hand which will happen inevitably (it's KVR after all).

About Scott, graphic seem more important to him than audio (or I'm wrong) so it's a possibility that he pay for his graphic apps. And since he studied in that department maybe he got good acedemic prices.

Post

Mike, were those links I found re the text colour and BG any use?

Post

Karma=I'm very glad you got this sorted out. I had the very same issues with Scott Kane, except I didn't pay him any money up front(I offered). He made me a wonderful GUI for Cymbiant XL, then lost contact, then gave me all kind of excuses why he didn't want to give it to me. This is after I released pics of it everywhere - so Cymbiant XL died a slow, quiet, embarrassing death. There was talk that he used warez, but the work was so good, I guess/ I didn't want to believe that. Just goes to prove you can be the best at what you do, but you should watch what bridges you burn down on your pathway. Anyway, best of luck with Supercore!

right. i'm sure that's the case and i'm being silly. slippery slope!

i'd love to give him the benefit of the doubt but i know that he pirates 3DStudio (a graphic software thus making your good hearted suggestion false) because he told me in PM long ago before all of this went down when I asked him in PM he said he pirated it and recommended that i do it to (with a wink and a smile emoticon).

i didn't say anything because i'm not a tattler and it's not my place to say something. i just kept my distance and my mouth shut. now that he's out in the open with it all i feel like a weight has been lifted because it really bothered me knowing.

it's a shame though, the entire mess.

Well, my tuppence... don't do cents... I like Hils new golden brown look, it makes the GUI appear tidier and more intuitive in comparison to the others (that watercolour style one looks... just plain not very good).

And Mike, I'd think very very hard about working with Scott, I really would. The issue is already derailing every thread about Supercore... it'll come back to bite you when you launch it as well. You know what KVR's like!

All the best.
