Oh yes it will. I could run beatmaker, isyn or idrum on it right now today if I had one in my hands. and think of what the future will bring, in terms of apps leveraging that much screen space...
It doesn't look like it has any more screen space than the laptop I have to bring ANYWAY because I have to run real programs to control real hardware when I'm out traveling for work. The idea that this thing offers anything that a laptop doesn't is baffling to me. It's less than a laptop, and even less than an iphone. It's utterly pointless, but lots of you will buy it anyway. I wish I was Steve Jobs.

And forgive me for thinking about this, but if you really want to *use* it with its multi touch capabilities and such, don't you have to put it down? And then, won't you have to lean over it because it's flat? I can't imagine a fleet of iMusicians cradling it like a baby in one arm tweaking iKnobs with the other, because they *do* like to look cool, musicians...

Yeah fair enough, but the point is it can serve as a portable music creation device. Right now today. And do so very well.

Its more than an iPhone by virtue of its larger interface and new interface design features alone (and its that same interface that differentiates it from your laptop - unless its multitouch, with an OS designed for multitouch and not just adapted to multitouch, that is...). I don't view it as a laptop replacement (and its not priced or marketed as such, by the way), but I view it as a device that can fill a void for some, much as the iPhone filled a void for me. If it doesn't for you, fair enough.

And sometimes a new product doesn't have to offer everything an existing product does in order to be a success (or to "have a point" as you would say...). Sometimes its all in the way you mix that gumbo...

+ ipad = multitouch mackie control emulation.

also, i'm really hoping apple or 3rd party provide a way to mirror a computer on same network (or wired).... being able to use ipad as a touchscreen for another computer would be excellent.

This is the basic reason it's useless to me. An iphone could have value as I need a phone, too, but since I already have to lug a laptop around for work, the ipad is useless to me. Maybe not others. Looks like fun, though.

Perhaps most importantly, it won't run FL studio..

I bet its going to be fun for AT&T's already hammered network.

Tablets were out years ago and failed due to lack of decent keyboard. Some still survive but also have a keyboard :

That's what they said about the iPhone (and other phones with onscreen keyboards) but look how that one flew of.

In practice, it won't be that bad at all and I think it will fall into a range where there is balance between compromise, usability and functionality
Or you could buy the Dell Tablet and get it all, multi touch, multi tasking, keyboard and it will run standard apps...

So... you can get 5 iPads for the price of the Dell tablet. Not a fair comparison, is it? I think the purposes of both devices are very different.

After further consideration I think I'd rather wait for the 3G 32 gig iPad.

I'm not looking to get locked into another contract. I hope this VoIP rumor proves to be true.

Not the point. Will it control FL Studio though? It could.

yeah, but more importantly will the software that lets you control it get approval to go on the app store? ;)
