As soon as the first MIDI I/O plug is available for this thing, I'm on it. Just imagine using multitimbral VA, PhM, FM, etc. synth apps with fully optimized (and LARGE) multitouch interfaces, under the full control of your (fingertips as well as your) DAW or hardware sequencer.

I can't wait!

Just imagine having basically a multitimbral sampler/sound module with a 64gb library... At your fingertips!!!

Or full on synth/sampler/sequencers even! Like the new Akai doodad...

How exciting, like I need another controller to set up for every plug and program. 1GHz CPU, wow - you could almost run, erm Reason v1 if they rewrote it for the non X86 code. Dude - calm down, itll have a cracked LCD and display issues before you unpack it, or shortly after. Enough already.

As if CPU was the end all be all. That's the problem, you bunch and your processor pissing matches... Who gives a flying hoot how many tracks/plugins/thumbs up your asses you can run? Make some music already... :D

I've been wanting an interface like this since the very first time I used a plugin...

Too late. I already said goodbye to my Roland XV-5050 and my Korg Radias about 2 years ago when I bought my Sony Ericsson W760i that came with the super advanced software Music Mate 5. I know people that upgraded from Pro Tools too.

I agree though that now with iPad and Babya Logic the possibilities are endless!

Post

out of curiosity, for those who already have an ipod touch / iphone...how 'multi' is multitouch? say i was using it as a controller, how many controls can i manipulate simultaneously?

Post

I wanna say up to 5, but I'm not sure. 2-3 at least. I just tested 2 different apps and I was able to control 2 sliders at the same time in both...

I guess that's the KVR norm, huh? Its all about features... Me personally I'm an interface/workflow guy.

It is. For your existing software, that is. All these synths etc you are dreaming about would need to be rewritten to the ARM CPU and iPhone OS.

I am so with you on this!!! :D

Why spend $1800+ for a Lemur?

just by 2 iPads and maybe you could have touch sensitive turntable decks!!??!!?

and mixing console if you want to add a third

Is anyone listening? 8)

but, how are you going to get MIDI with no physical ports? also i don't think the pad is up to any VST ability.. it can't even do flash animation...

They already exist. At least some of them :D

And when I said CPU, I meant CPU speed...

Well MIDI, like I said in the first post, is gonna be up to some creative dev to implement. Akai has already basically done it with the iPK25. Or maybe there will be some sort of network MIDI protocol, or a client/server application sitting on your desktop/laptop compter... I know its gotta be possible. If you can make a controller send a MIDI signal to your DAW, then why the heck can't your DAW send a MIDI signal to an ipad synth???

And if you can have great sounding synths like iSyn or nLog on the iphone, then why not on the iPad? I'm not the type that needs cutting edge CPUs because I'm not the type that needs cutting edge synths... I guess... If it makes a sound, I can make dopeness with it... But I'm very much not like the typical bunch round these parts.

As Xenakios said, the low CPU speed will stop you running complex synths.

Post

And as I said, I don't need complex synths...

Just to give a frame of reference, I'm an MPC guy... So you can toss all the conventional arguments. All I really care about is the interface: how I interact with the machine. That's it...

And from that perspective, the iPad is my dream synth/sampler/sound module... And maybe even sequen... nah I'll stick with the MPC and Live for that...
